We were meeting up with some friends so we decided try out Manna Korean Cuisine. Apparently, one of the chefs worked previously at Han Corea which intrigued me. We dropped in on a Wednesday (around 6:30pm) and the place filled up quickly. Four booths and a couple tables (22 seats). Service was odd; our waitress questioned why we wanted extra chopsticks and spoons. It also felt like pulling teeth when we asked for water refills and banchan. Never experienced this at a Korean restaurant before. The menu is split into appetizer, bibimbop, Manna BBQ, soup & stew, hot pot and signature dishes. Their hot pot dishes are pricey ($42.00 to $48.00). - Banchan - 7 types of side dishes including kimchi, sliced fish cakes, glazed potatoes, macaroni salad, sausage, pickled zucchini, and fried zucchini. Everyone's favourite was easily the fried zucchini. Pickled zucchini had a nice crispy, crunchy bite. Macaroni salad was bland. - Purple rice - they brought out a bowl for each person. I believe these are unlimited refills too. - Ddukboki (#5) ($16.00) - there was some glass noodles thrown in. Good flavours and the ddukboki had a bouncy, chewy texture. - Stone bowl bibimbop (#9) ($15.00) - rice was crispy. Solid dolsot bibimbap. - LA galbi (#10) ($22.00) - came with romaine lettuce and a dipping sauce. Portion is on the smaller side. Decent but not sure I'd splurge for this again (rather would try a different meat instead). - Zzamppong soft tofu soup (#22) ($15.00) - a bunch of clams and one large mussel made up the seafood. Good depth and balance to the soup. Food hit the spot but MKC's service could use some work. 3.5 stars.

    Kalbi Short Ribs @MannaKoreanCuisine (Rosemont)

Solid place for Korean bites that can handle large groups, takes resos, and has excellent ayce banchan. The Kalbi short ribs could've been a bit better with more char grill time because we found the dish a bit too oily in texture, everything else tasted great including the sausage tofu soup, onion pancake with squid, sausage fried rice with egg, rice cakes with baked cheese, and fried dumplings. Our servers were busy since the place was packed, we did have to ask quite a few times for extra essential items like napkins, serving ware, water, and even plates to eat on. Nice central north location with free parking out front.

After hearing that a chef from Han Corea opened his own restaurant, I knew I had to stop by and try it. I've been here 3 times already since the end of December and will actually be visiting again tomorrow (do you guys see how much I love this place?). Their side dishes are my favourite ones in the city (the zucchini tempura is made to order!! amazing) and free refills! Rice and water is self-served. All the servers are so lovely and accommodating. In my visits I have had the opportunity to try a variety of dishes on their menu: #22 Seafood Soft Tofu Soup ($15) - spicy mixed seafood soft tofu soup with vegetables (4.5/5) - definitely a must order! The tofu is silky smooth and the soup is very flavourful. Will likely get this every time I visit. It's an individual portion (as an entree) but sometimes we order it to share and get a bigger dish as an entree #20 Gamjatang ($15) - savory and rich house made pork broth with pork back bones, potatoes, and vegetables - a solid gamjatang for sure!! But seriously that tofu soup is to die for! #30 Zzhu Sam ($45) - spicy stir fried baby octopus and pork belly with vegetables - this was one of my favourite dishes! It comes raw on a platter and it's cooked table side! There were rice cakes in this dish and they were so good! I normally don't like rice cakes but they were the perfect chewiness! At the end, they bring out some egg and seaweed mix and you make fried rice with it! So good. Portion is enough for 4 people for sure #31 Osam Bulgolgi ($45) - spicy stir fried squid and pork belly with vegetables - Got this my second visit there and assumed it was similar to #30 but it came out all cooked on a sizzling plate already, so no fried rice but it's all pre-cooked already. #10 LA Galbi ($22) - marinated beef short rib with Manna house sauce - I liked the house sauce but not too much otherwise to write home about! #3 Seafood Pancake ($16): this was my least favourite of all the dishes, it was a little bit soggy for my taste I would try to make reservations if possible as it is a smaller restaurant. They are closed on Tuesday! There is parking available as the restaurant is located in a plaza.

While the food at Manna is decent and the side dishes are pretty good, what left a sour taste in our mouth was how they run their business. We walked into the restaurant at 8pm on a week day night and minus the 3 tables that were still full of people eating, every single other table was full of dirty dishes. They only have one person working the entire front restaurant. This includes, hosting, waitressing, cleaning and clearing tables, filling the rice station, and answering phone calls. The restaurant sits generously maybe 50 people and it has been quite popular considering they are new. The poor girl was running around. For how much business they are getting and at the prices they are charging, they need to consider adding additional help, whether it be a second waitress or someone to at least help and clear dishes. The food itself on korean standards was decent but not amazing. We got the basic beef bone soup (Seul gogi guk) and it was full of meat and soup was decent. Side seasonings for the soup were lacking but was not bad. The side dishes were quite good as most of them were fresh. The potatoes and zucchinis came out steaming hot. The side dishes themselves could have been bigger, but I assume they do this to minimize waste. They do refill your side dishes, but I have no idea how the poor waitress managed to do this all by her self. Also we were the last people to order and after our food came out, the people in the back should have offered the girl some help. The girl working there said that theres always one person on the weekdays. Definitely a bit of a disappointing service and am not super eager to go back soon.

We happened to noticed that there was a new Korean restaurant in the neighbourhood so we decided to come for dinner. It happened to be their 2nd day since they have opened. The restaurant had a self serve style for rice. So all you have to order are the mains to go with the rice. For the 3 of us, we had a seafood pancake, beef brisket and tendon soup and the beef short ribs. There was more than enough food for all of us. The seafood pancake had a lot of seafood in it which made it more delicious compared to other places. The soup broth was very rich in flavour. You can tell they boiled the soup bones for a very long time. I've always been a stickler for burnt meat and these short ribs were cooked to perfection. The side dishes were quite good too. You can tell it was mostly made in house and they were all so fresh. All in all, this place is definitely worth checking out!

After 16 months of being cooped up because of COVID restrictions, our family decided to give Manna a try. Our server was pleasant and attentive; despite being masked, she was extremely quick to make eye contact. Any extra utensils, napkins, side dish (ban chan) refills, were brought to our table in less than a minute! The boys and I ordered the seafood pancake (pa jeon), gam ja tang (pork bone soup), and LA kalbi (barbecued beef short ribs). All main dishes come with 7 side dishes (ban chan) -- glass potatoes, tempura zucchini (lightly battered and crispy), sliced sausage and onions, seaweed salad (seasoned perfectly and served at the correct (cooler) temperature), kimchi, omelette strips with red pepper powder, sautéed zucchini and onions. As a continued precaution, the rice is served individually in stainless steel bowls (instead of self-serve). The gam ja tang was served with two large pork bones(with plenty of tender meat still attached), potatoes, and vegetables in a spicy(but not tongue-numbing) broth. The pa jeon was perfectly cooked with a generous amount of seafood in a crispy pancake. The kalbi was seasoned nicely and served with lettuce and miso-garlic sauce. Since this restaurant is relatively small, reservations are recommended. We will definitely be back!

Because of the public health restrictions enacted in March 2020, we had not dined out in 16 months. My wife had a hankering for Korean, so she suggested Manna, which we hadn't tried before. We ordered the gamjatang (spicy pork bone soup), which was intensely flavourful; a seafood pancake--their version was crisp and crunchy without being overly greasy; and kalbi (beef short ribs), cooked just the way she likes it. As she noted, many of the other guests were Korean, always a good sign of authentic cuisine. Service was attentive and friendly. First time here, certainly won't be the last.

I hope you have good table manna's ______________________________ : Manna Korean Restaurant : Yookgae Jang & Seafood Soft Tofu Soup : $$ _______________________________ Yookgae Jang is one of my favourite Korean soups, so I was excited to give it a try from here. It's was definitely different than the ones I'm used to as it was completely loaded with ingredients & not as red in colour. Although it was unusual, I did really enjoy it & would definitely order it again. I heard everyone raving about the Soondubu Jjigae from here, so we decided to check it out. We were honestly quite skeptical because we really did not like the one we tried from Han Corea recently, & heard the Chef is from that restaurant. Thankfully, we were pleasantly surprised as it was 100x better than the one from there. Still not as good as the one at BCD Soon Tofu that closed down, but probably the 2nd best one I've had in Calgary. The banchan is definitely also worth mentioning as it was very fresh & great quality. I absolutely loved the fried zucchini, onions & honey potatoes. (& yay for free refills) Overall, I'm very happy this place opened as it's much closer to us than Han Corea & so far I think I like it better! Will likely become regulars soon. IG: @hungry.yyc

The exterior of the building appears that it is situated in an old house, which definitely adds to the charm. The staff greeted me an led me to a table on the upper floor. Immediately, I noticed that most parties in here were large and the portions were family style. Definitely something that I wish I had brought friends to and not just come in as a solo diner. However, the staff did not make me feel weird about this at all. I ordered a Lychee Time cocktail and a Rose Rice Cake curry. They brought out an included kimchee plate, which was certainly enough for 4 people. The Rose Rice Cake dish was the same, enough for 2-4 people to share. Both the kimchi and the curry were amazing, I enjoyed both immesely. My only complaint was that my drink was far too sweet, I had to water it down to finish it. When it came time for my inevitable leftovers, the staff had great suggestions for reheating and I was even able to purchase udon to go for the leftovers. Amazing homey experience that I would recommend to anyone in town (preferably with friends!).

My craving must have been intense because I didn't even think about it and started my long walk there. The layout of the restaurant is interesting. The bathroom is in the basement, the first floor is a bit small but has some tables, and the second floor has most of the dining area space. Interior decoration was pretty minimal but there was kpop playing and it was a bit dark in there so if you're looking to get a few drinks and Korean food with some friends, this would be a great spot. When I was sat at my table and I looked through the menu, the first thing that popped in my head was that they had quite an extensive menu. From army stew, bibimbap, bulgogi, and what I decided to get Dakgalbi (marinated chicken bbq). The Dakgalbi was really good and marinated well. I wasn't expecting the fried rice at the end to come with it like in Korea which was also really good. The only critique I have regarding the food is that there weren't that many side dishes (banchan) and the lettuce on the side was an extra $5. Service was on point. Thu and the woman server, I forgot her name, worked well as a team to make sure everyone was taken care of even though they had to walk up and down those stairs probably 10+ times just when I was there.

The inside is also rather small, they seat maybe 7 tables each with 2-4 people per table. There's tons of traditional Korean decorations everywhere. The staff is also all Korean and greet you in Korean. There's unlimited high quality purple bean rice. The sides are nothing to write home about other than the macaroni salad. They had an interesting take on it by adding imitation crab - I'm not sure I liked that part. Otherwise it's similar to the chain BCD tofu. The ever popular seafood pajeon (a pancake-like dish) is made extremely thick and therefore isn't crispy at all like pajeon normally is. I don't really recommend this item. Interestingly there's a bulgogi dish with vegetables and noodles (thin, clear). Makes the dish much more hearty. The flavor and quality was pretty good. Seafood tofu soup. They do a great job of making it spicy if you ask. The flavoring has that umami feel. Overall, not overwhelmingly amazing. A bit on the pricey side. They do have a very wide range of menu items and some pretty authentic items that aren't normally regularly provided in Korean restaurants. Service is fine - didn't meet anyone rude or anyone particularly amazing either.
