I finally…read moregot to attend one and was glad that I could share the experience with Mog P. and my son, Gabriel. Even though we lived here, parking is really bad. I drove around a few times before I could get a spot. It's interesting how the neighborhood puts up parking signs during this time to make some bucks. Set up little drink and food stands selling home made goods cheap compared to what's in the fair. I think it makes it unique and hope it continues to add that different vibe to the whole affair. There are all kinds of booths selling all kinds of stuff. Home made soap. Real Estate. Antique farm equipment going back to 1800s. Red Cross. And so much more. Our first stop is the animals. The prize animals here are cows, horses, pigs, chickens, pigeons, rabbits, sheep, goats, etc. And, the kewl thing is you get to pet them, talk to the owners, see the awards and trophies they won. Very exciting and educational. You can spend a good 2 hours doing that. We walked around, checked out everything else that was there. Bought some things. Got ice cream, fresh made, in a big waffle cone. Cotton candy for Gabriel. Waffles for Mog P. The rides brought me back to my days riding E.K. Fernandez and I couldn't wait to get on. Did I say I'm terrified of heights? Yeah, I am. But, that still won't stop me riding. I just gotta start on the Merry Go Round and work my way up. By the time I was on the feris wheel, I was okay with my eyes closed. I can't remember the price of admission but felt it wasn't too bad. So, if you do have the chance to go to a 4-H Fair, please do. It's worth the time to take the family to discover.

Monroe Cheese Days, how to describe it for someone who's never been? It's a festival celebrating…read moreMonroe's claim to fame: cheese. More specifically, locally made cheese and limburger cheese. Local beer is a big part of it too, but that's not the star of the show (and for good reason because Minhas brews are less than good). There's live music, most of which is fantastic (pro tip: check out the beer tent down by Minhas, that's where you'll find some great music, especially later in the afternoon and evening). There are some fun Swiss cultural experiences to be had from the stage on the South side of the Square thanks to the Alphorn players, yodelers, and accordion players. As for food, the cheese curds are stupid good. Yes the line is long, and yes you should do it anyway. I only wish they'd offer an additional ticket where you have the option to pay an extra $.50-$1 to pair funky cheese sauces and aioli dips with your curds. These curds certainly don't need sauces, but it'd add to the whole foodie experience. A few notes for first-timers: -Get the cheese curds. You can't possibly participate in a Cheese Days celebration without eating these cheese curds. I promise they're the best you've ever had. -There are two beer areas: one surrounding the square, a second at the beer tent. The beer used to be restricted to beer tents only, now you can wander each respective area. -Music at the Beer tent is a must. -The beer stand on the square offers different brews than that at the Beer Tent down by Minhas, so try something from both areas. Don't expect to love the Minhas beer though. -Check out the hospitality tent ahead of time for events you want to participate in. They're free. I recommend the cheese and beer pairing class. It's lead by a Master Cheesemaker.

I contacted GG because we were replacing an original single pane window on our Queen Anne Victorian and I was looking for something with a little...color. Boy did they deliver! Not only did they help us with finding some traditional styles, they also spent a ridiculous amount of time picking out glass with us that matches the other original stained glass in our home. They even worked with me when I wanted to combine a few different ideas into my "vision". It took awhile for them to finish the window, but it was worth the wait. We just had it installed and I am amazed at how majestic it looks. It's such high quality and the craftsmanship, dear lord. Mind you, it wasn't cheap, but God was it worth every penny!

I got the kit thinking that I can use it for the class and all would be good. However, every class we went to we were required to buy more things in order to continue with our project. Each class, I would leaving having spent more money. I was upset about these hidden fees, and it should be mentioned when signing up for the class. For people who are not planning on continuing doing stained glass, you might want to reconsider this glass. That being said, I really enjoyed the class and have now been doing stained glass at home. She was a good teacher.

The Green County Welcome center serves many purposes. Located in the former Milwaukee Road Depot,…read morethe structure also houses the National Historic Cheesemaking Museum and the Milk House Gift Shop. Built in 1888, the railroad depot was moved to its present location in 1993. The building was restored by members and friends of the organization and dubbed the "Monroe Depot." It reopened today, April 1, and will be open through October 31. On June 8, 2013, retired cheesemakers will make a 90 pound wheel of Swiss cheese, as it was done over 100 year ago. The milk arrives approximately 9:00 a.m. and the day continues until the wheel of cheese is completed. During the day, you can order a Master Grilled Cheese Sandwiches and finish it off with a fresh cream puff with real whipped cream. (This event happens on the first Saturday of every June.) Next to the Welcome Center is a stuffed and mounted Milwaukee Road caboose. The number, 992094, indicates it was in the last batch of "rib side" caboose built by the Milwaukee Road shops, in 1951. The Milwaukee Road built 315 of the unique rib sided caboose between 1939 and 1951. After 1951, the Milwaukee Road ordered caboose from Thrall Car Company which are of a more "conventional" design. The inside is restored and very clean. It's a great attraction for any rail buff.

Any gear head would love this show because it usually has 400 to 500 cars, bikes, trucks, tractors etc etc and they have like 32 classes to complete in. If your thing doesn't have a class they even have an area for just showing what you bring. I don't think with C19 this show was as big as the past but it was still cool with a great presentation of mostly American vehicle, honesty I'm not into tuner cars so this is a nice show. Im very disappointed at the food offerings and the price because they had cold pre package cheeseburgers that seemed like they were cooked hours ago and dry, cheap as F small patty on a generic white bun with cheese slapped on which wasn't even melted. For $4.50 I expect my crappy cheeseburger to be grilled on site with melted cheese at least at room temperature. Come on and step up your food game, yah it's in farm country but don't feed us like animals just because your too lazy to bring something better to the event. The beer was pretty basic also with domes and spotted cow. Ok so the next time I'm skipping the food and going next door to the restaurant, I will pay double for a better lunch.
