Both drawing several thousand friendly and happy people! It bring the whole town out and the whole together. The Main Street site being my favorite as one can set up camp for the movie, and grab a great meal at any one of the great local eateries ranging from food trucks to 5 star Indian, and everything in between. The community pulls out all the stops with almost every church within 5 miles having a big presence (with a few sadly and notably absent) of engaging activities for family and kids. There are three movies movies during the season, and one being aimed at a kid free audience too.

It's a small, two screen theater that is exactly how I remember it, down to the smell, even. It a sort of sweet, slightly musty smell that adds so much to the charm of this place. For some reason, as the nostalgia swept over me, I subconsciously felt compelled to get Twizzlers as my movie candy of choice (I believe they were usually accompanied by Reese's Pieces, too). Seats are relatively comfortable, though a little low on the back. I found that this helped me sit up straight during the movie, it would've been an epic slouch to be a comfortable one. Picture quality of the movie was great, volume/sound quality was great, as well. Nowadays, they're showing first run movies, so there's no need to head to Madison to see a movie on opening weekend if you're a movie nerd like me. On the down side, cash/checks only... but the Kwik Trip is right around the corner with a no fee ATM (just in case)! Also, only one screening of each movie on weekdays, two on weekends. Here's the real bummer: They recently found out that all movie releases starting next summer-ish are going to be in digital format only. Digital projectors are expensive. This theater may end up closing for good, unless they can raise the money to buy new projectors. I really hope that they will be able to accomplish their fundraising goal... Richland Center would be losing a cherished (to me, anyway) landmark if they cannot. Save the theaters (the drive in is at risk, too... the place where my cousin's now husband proposed) in Richland Center!

The UW Cinematheque has been around for 10 years so I'm a little surprised there were no reviews already for this amazing facility. What you need to know: It's Free!!! They show movies every Friday and Saturday night at 7:30pm during the Fall and Spring semesters and they have a summer series that runs on Thursdays and Fridays. They only show the best prints available, usually 35 or 16 mm on their reel to reel but they also are capable of showing BetaSP, DVD, DVCam, and VHS. It's open to everyone and they start seating at 7pm. It's first come first served so it pays to get their early.
