Since housing and meals are such a burden during times like that, this home becomes the most amazing relief for families. I've visited several times, and not only is the place absolutely clean, furnished, and accommodating, but the staff are the most wonderful people that truly care. I did a volunteer shift last week, helping to distribute food to recipients who drove up. There was already a line of cars that snaked outside of the parking lot and down Decatur. The folks working here have a great system going, with check-in for volunteers, name tags, and then assignments handed out. There were tents set up in the parking lot already with the products to be disbursed at stations. Volunteers were assigned to a station and put the food in the cars as they stopped at each station. There were two lines of cars, one on each side of the tents, with volunteers to hand out food on each side. I worked alongside some great people and look forward to helping out again. Our Scout Pack 931 Organized a…read morevolunteer night and I did not know much about the organization before signing up to volunteer with Scouts. You can register to volunteer on the website. https://spreadthewordnevada.org/volunteer-options/ They have several ways to Volunteer. We did the book preparation volunteering. Volunteer times are usually 2 hours on a Wednesday and Friday evenings from 6PM-8PM. When arriving at Spread the word it is good to know that you enter through a side door in a strip mall off of American Pacific and Gibson. Workers and volunteers then explain the process. Step 1; Grab some books. Step 2; Inspect the books for writing, tears or stickers. If the book is damaged, try to repair it or recycle it. Step 3; Clean it with a wet rag and dry off. Step 4; Categorize the book in 2 different boxes depending on if it has a bar code or not. There are also other bins for Spanish and Library books. Step 5; When you have filled a box someone grabs the box and puts in a bigger bin in the warehouse. Step 6; clean up your workstation! A few tips: You may want to wear vinyl or latex gloves when handling the books. Some had water damage and questionable stains.

Our Mother is being starved to death because Paulette Clay continues to bump her from getting food…read morewhich is elder abuse. Liza Avila has been sent at least two emails telling her to reinstate our mother's Walmart ride the second and fourth Wednesday of every month. Liza lied to Marina and told her that our mother had canceled her Walmart rides which was untrue. Marina had sent her an email telling her to reinstate that but Liza just ignored it so that email is proof. Then CC emailed Liza to reinstate our mother's Walmart ride and Liza ignored the second request. It is very obvious that Liza has done this out of retaliation of our mother. Mitch one of the drivers had fallen to sleep behind my mother's dumpsters in the bus he was picking her up in. Our mother struggled to go to the office to see if he was up front and she called Paulette and Paulette started screaming at her over our mother's apartment phone which was witnessed. Then when our mother called Liza to tell her what had happened Liza rudely interrupted our mother screaming there is no story... I have already heard. That's the stupidest lie I've ever heard. What did she mean there is no story but she's heard it that's a stupid woman and she needs to be fired because she is the one that has caused all of this to happen because of her refusal to follow orders from two emails and retaliating against our mother and keeping her from food which she has been starving to death. This is all documented and witnessed by many people including documented by Helping Hands emails. Our mother just called us in heart distressed with high blood pressure telling us that Joe Rono, Helping Hands new scheduler bullied her on the phone and then Paulette Clay lied about our mother calling her and telling her that she had been injured on their large bus due to Janine's their driver neglect. Paulette asked our mother if she wanted to fill out an accident report. Why would Paulette ask our mother if she wanted to fill out an accident report if our mother wasn't injured. This Paulette can't even lie good. This Joe lied said that they have things documented. He doesn't even know what he's talking about he's lying also. She has to be one of the most rude and disrespectful people that I have ever met. I spent 21 years in the Air Force and and still work for the gov and I pride myself in treating people with respect and understanding, and the way she acted towards myself and others at the Dress giveaway, just for walking down the incorrect hallway....she should not be in charge of any organization and I would be leary about donating to a person like that. All she had to do was explain the mistake/rules in a nice and respectful manner. I overheard others talking about the rudeness from her as well.

My employer regularly schedules opportunities for a group of employees to volunteer for the Evening Community Meal at Las Vegas Rescue Mission, founded in 1970. It is a smooth-running operation. For two hours, we get to assist with food service for around 500 to 700 homeless or hungry folks from the local community. The demographic is diverse across age and ethnicity, and includes some families and people with disabilities. They are peaceful and polite throughout the occasion. Some greet you personally to express their gratitude. I enjoy participating in this volunteer event, as a way to give back to the local community most in need. It also serves as a reminder to not take my own meals for granted, as someone fortunate to be in the segment of society that never goes hungry. For folks interested in volunteering, I would recommend Las Vegas Rescue Mission to anyone.

I've volunteered here twice with my co-workers and it's been a very fulfilling way to give back to…read morethe community. Serving Our Kids currently feeds 3,500 kids in 70 schools who would otherwise go hungry. These children do not currently receive weekend food bags from any backpack or governmental programs. Serving Our Kids fills that gap. As volunteers, our group gets the weekend bags ready by filling them, assembly-line style.
