I have been to a few improv shows here in the past. The seating is very basic, provides an intimate feel with the Improv troupe. Narrator takes themes and prompts from the crowd. It challenges you and helps you think quick on your feet. Must be able to handle extemporaneous changes in themes too. I also have a friend that participated in the Improv school / program and found it useful. Helped my friend come out of his shell more, not so much funnier in his delivery. You either have it or you don't. I found it amusing and very clear cut who among the troupe excelled at improv. Only a few tend to stand out each show. Kudos to all for their effort nonetheless, it's not easy to do in front of bunch of strangers. read more

I would 10/10 recommend this place! My husband and I came on a Sunday night show, and laughed all night. Ambiance is intimate, I got seats right be the stage not realizing how small of a venue it is, and felt almost part of the show haha. Everyone was great, and felt like a supportive environment. I haven't visited Go Comedy Club since pre pandemic and it still as funny as before. Came back recently with some friends on a Saturday for one of their 7:30 shows. It's $20 a ticket and you can buy them online and reserve a table. I feel like most people don't have the sense of humor to enjoy improv, but I find it hilarious and I think each of the comics on stage are very talented to think of entire scenarios right on the spot. During the act there's a person coordinating the entire show where they are asking for suggestions from that they want to see performed. Overall it's always a funny scene. At each table if you take a picture of the QR code then then bar menu pops up and can order drinks. They're drinks are always good and come out really fast. If you're looking for some light hearted fun I think it's definitely worth checking out. read more

This is one of my favorite spots in Ferndale. They have reasonably priced tickets and have shows almost every Friday and Saturday night (730 & 930). I would say generally the later show is funnier but they don't always get a big enough crowd. The show is better, the more people in the audience. Part of the fun is that you get to write prompts and fill out a personal sheet before the show and they use some of your input for the different games they play. If your slip is chosen, you can win free tickets at the end. Admittedly, the drinks could be better but I can usually find something (just can't modify because you have to do it online via the barcode at your table). It would also be cool if they added some real food snack options (they have things like beef jerky, chips, pickles, etc). Make sure to come early so that you can fill out your information on the card (I would suggest 20 mins). read more

LOVE THIS LIL IMPROV THEATER! They are so awesome! All my friends and I had such a blast attending the show. The layout is so cozy and intimate, there's not a bad seat in the house, and it's so nice that it's not just chairs, but a grouping of chairs around a table, so it feels more laid back and of course, so you have room to place your drinks. They have a very adorable bar at the front of the house, but the servers will bring drinks to your table and check up on you throughout the entire show at regular intervals to take your order on if you want anything more, which is so helpful! The improv was so good! I am a bit biased because I came to support one of my friends who took classes and performs improv at this theater, but I was truly blown away by the talent and entertainment that the whole cast was bringing to the performance! They really bounce ideas and energy off of one another and you can tell they all have so much fun putting these shows on and are just having an absolutely great time! The host was great and the audience participation wasn't much at all, so don't worry if that makes you nervous! They are very good at respecting how much or little you want to engage with the show! The energy is infectious and the entire crowd is so wrapped up in it all too! I was so wrapped up that I didn't even think to take photos because I was enjoying my time so spectacularly! I truly can't wait to return for another show! What is particularly awesome about Go Comedy! is that they require proof of vaccination to enter and attend shows, something very clearly and explicitly stated when you either get tickets online or try to come instead. You also are required to wear your mask throughout the entire show as well. There is someone stationed at the door checking for proof of COVID vaccination. One of our friends even came in from Canada, with her vaccination card in tow as well, and got in with no trouble! It is a very refreshing and responsible thing that I serious appreciate that they do. Thanks for keeping us safe during this pandemic, Go Comedy! Came here tonight for the 8pm show. Only now just noticed the $2 coupon for checking in, bummer. I ordered a B. Nektar Zombie Killer ($8) which was tasty. I'm a bit spoiled when it comes to improv shows, a friend of mine used to be in a part-time troupe in Atlanta and they were fantastic. I thought this show would be mostly improv but it was kind of a mix, it was the Matt Naas Variety Show. Overall a fun time but not entirely what I was expecting. Apparently we could have stayed for the next show for only $5 or so, wish I had known that. I'd like to see a show here another time but tickets were a little pricey, about $19 online with fees. If you are friends with one of the judges, you will be chosen. That's the only way in. Very political organization and no way to make yourself known as a new person. Greetings I'd like to share my upsetting experience from this evening.  We came with a group of 10 people - the friend who ordered the tickets didn't tell anyone that a vaccination card was required to enter.  None of us had our cards on us, only 1 of us was required to go to the car to get it.  That person missed 30 mins of the show because of where they were parked.  Next, the man with the cute leopard mask was taking drink orders.  The app/website for orders would not work from my friends phone, he said she needs to use it to be able to order a drink.  She asked for him to double check.  He said that he asked the manager and it was confirmed that she cannot order a drink through him because they cannot accept payment in person.  Immediately after that he let my other friends order drinks and pay cash without using an app or website.  He actually brought a tablet over to them to take their order. Why did 1 out of 10 have to show their vaccination card?  Why were some people allowed to pay cash to have their order taken but others were not? The lady upfront asked what I wanted when I explained this to her.  She asked if I wanted free passes to return, I said that I personally would not return but that my friends might want them, she did not give me any passes.   I wanted an explanation for why 2 of my friends were singled out and treated differently than everyone else. Also, why offer free passes, then not give free passes? I wasn't able to enjoy the show because I was worried about my friends being treated differently. read more

Go Comedy has been funny each time we've went or the audience has added humor to the evening (amazing how vocal people get when the drink). I love All Star Showdown because you get to win prizes (free passes, etc.) and it's interactive. You fill out cards when you arrive and they pick people to play for. It's funny because audience members put down crazy answers. The lineup changes monthly and they offer pay what you can on Sundays. Even penny pinching folks like myself can get a laugh. There isn't food, but Ferndale has so many restaurants that you can eat before/after the show. They do have a full bar for libations. The current great part is they offer sliders (from a local spot) and Treat Dream ice cream on Sundays (as of right now)! Go early if you want a spot in the parking lot or expect to pay for metered parking across the street. This month: comedy on Thursday where you get a discount with your library card. Who the hell doesn't love to laugh?!? I sure as heck do, and when I'm in the mood (or sometimes, need) to laugh, the one spot that always delivers the funny is Go Comedy. Now I'm not a drinker, but I KNOW this place has great drinks. How do I know? It's been voted on, and they recently one best bartender in Detroit. And the prices? Man, the drink prices are f'in fantastic. Not only that, but the prices for admission to shows are absurdly low. Many of the shows I've seen there should have been double the price for admission, but hey...they do it for love of the game bro. As if those things weren't great enough, can I tell you just how perfect a date place this theatre is? Inexpensiveness aside, the atmosphere is perfect for dates. Listen guys, if you have a girl laughing and you're sitting next to her, maybe even have your arm around her and give her the occasional flirtatious look, she's remembering this night my friend. All the laughs (sorry improvisers) will be attributed to you and your shared experience. That is well worth the time and money in and of itself. Also a great time, is attending with a group. It is SO super cool with going with a group and everyone having a shared experience; not to mention, the high probability of having an inside joke or two with a small group of friends pays dividends every year my dude. Lastly, I've met the owners, and they are SO down to earth and nice, it would be foolish of you to give your money to any other place. So yea, if you want to experience one of the best spots in Metro-Detroit for drinks and laughter, look no further than Go Comedy. read more

My friend and I came here tonight since I've been wanting to go. Out of all the improv shows I've been to (which totals to about 3) this one ranks somewhere in the middle. There were a couple scenes that I enjoyed and others that weren't so great. However, there is really something for everyone. We also got a couple drinks but nothing from the menu even though they sounded delicious. We ordered a couple cranberry and vodkas along with whiskey and coke, which each ran about $5.50. I've been here a few times as the entertainment portion of ta date and never been disappointed. It's usually the all Star show which I find gets a lot of laughs and good sized crowds. This last time I ordered a cocktail for the first time. It was a variation of a whiskey sour recommended by the server and it was pretty damn delicious. I think it was $7 or $8 as my friend had a hot tea and the bill was 13. The place is clean, and well situated on 9 Mile just East of popular spots for dinner and drinks before or after. read more

What a great way to spend a Friday night! I took a half star away because the price to get in was a bit steep. It was $15 dollars for an hour and a half show. The bonus is, you can stay for the 11:30 "Dark Matter" Improv Show after that ran for another half hour. During this time, they have their Bizarro Happy Hour of $3 Dos Equis and $3 shots of Jose Cuervo Tequila. Also the drinks during the show weren't too pricey, so that kind of made up for the high price of admission. Call me a cheapskate, but it still felt awful steep for a few hours of entertainment. As for the performance, they have a really nice variety of different Improv challenges for two teams. You fill out a comment card when you walk in and they use your answers during the show. It was so funny, I left with my cheeks aching from laughing so hard. There were a few Improv challenges that kind of just kept going when I felt it should have been interrupted by another challenger. For that I took off another half star. Not good dropping the momentum. The moments of hilarity that came after those stranger moments made up for the occasional humor lull. The space is great. Not too big where it feels empty when not full but just intimate enough that there really isn't a bad seat in the house! I have no reservations giving Go Comedy a 5-star review. My wife and I have been there numerous times, and each time we end up leaving with swollen eyes (from crying due to laughter) and sore jaws (due to laughing so much and so hard). The performers are hilarious, and you can tell that they truly care about their craft, and the enjoyment of the audience. I don't know why I haven't reviewed this place before, as I've been here about 10 times. I really like the small venue and the cocktails are very good. It's pretty intimate and fun, so it's a great date spot. I'd say their All-Star Showdowns (which are similar to Whose Line Is It Anyway?) are usually very fun -- though of course, each night is different, some comedians are better than others, and even the crowd participation can influence how good a show is. But I don't really love their scripted shows -- these people are funny, but they're not very good actors. Regardless, I really like this place. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is their drink service is extremely slow, and sometimes it takes almost a full show for the waitress to come by your table. read more

They should call it the All-Star Letdown instead. I was sorely disappointed. Their scene work is lacking. Never a relationship and rarely even varying characters. Mostly gimmicks and one liners. These guys belong on Twitter and not a $15, 90 minute show. I came a long way for this and want my money and my time back. They have a nice theater and decent production value, but as improvisers they are beginners at best. I'd also just call them lazy: they resort to vulgar language and potty humor almost immediately. I'm not looking for a Disney show, but I've seen many clean shows that out this one to shame. Even others labeled "for adults" use the language sparingly and when it makes sense, not just to cover their shortcomings as an actor. The host did decently though. read more

WTF?! (What the fun! Hello?) Such a great time here! Saw the 8pm Christmas show .. had no idea what to expect at all! Small venue. Lucked out with parking in their own lot! They have a full bar (cheers ) which was a pleasant surprise!! We were seated at a table and our drink orders taken promptly from our tables even during the sketches! Oh and hilarious!! For sure!! Like why haven't I been going here? What a riot for a reasonable price! Gotta love Ferndale!!! The skits were hilarious!! Just ask "Carla" who became unknowingly part of the skit as "a girlfriend"! We always have a fun time coming to the theater. They have a nice variation in shows which makes it easy to keep coming back without having to watch the same show. The performers are super fun and balance each other out. They have a good selection of drinks to grab while you're watching and the service is always good. The tickets were easy to buy online. This is one of my favorite spots in Michigan, and my spouse, our friends and I can be found here quite regularly. The staff and cast are great- very funny, personable and accessible to their audience and guests. The bar menu is phenomenal- excellent drinks, creative craft cocktails, and an extensive selection of local brews. There are different types of improv, and it's important to know what to expect in order to have the best experience possible. This is not scene-work like Second City, but rather a series of improv games played competition style between two teams of improv'ers. The winners of each evenings competition are able to award prizes to members of the audience they choose to play for...and the competition (and thus the hilarity) is FIERCE. This is an adult-oriented, no-holds-barred comedy showdown, which means that swearing and sexual innuendo are not only likely, they're almost mandatory; but they never resort to base shock-value humor. The cast is smart, quick-witted and incredibly talented. Perfect for a first date (plan on a late dinner afterwards) and if you attend the 10:00 show, there's another free hour called "Name This Show" afterwards, where they test out some new games they're developing. I've gone back to Go Comedy! a couple times since the Yelp Elite event and each time has been a blast. For those who plan on going remember that mentioning Yelp at the ticket booth gets you a $3 discount to the show (which makes it $12 for cover)! I wasn't sure if Detroit improvers could compare to the New York improv I enjoyed while living there, but my reticence was unfounded. These guys are truly funny, inventive, and entertaining. There are different shows each night. The Rock-o-Matic show is hilarious. The comedians take suggestions from the audience and form a roughly hour long rock opera with many different scenes and songs. The All-Star comedy show, the signature act, is like a game show where two seasoned teams of improvers are pitted against each other and moderated by a host. This show involves the audience even more. The comedians collect suggestion slips before the show, use audience comments and ask a few people to come on stage and participate, but only if you want to (there's no pressure). Finally, the free Dark Matter show is a bit of a free-for-all where the improv actors can pretty much take the show where ever they want. Stick around for the free show, by then everyone's pretty drunk and that makes the show more entertaining. The place is quite small and has minimal furnishings and decorations. The walls are painted black, there's a small stage and many tables and chairs. But it has a real intimate feel to the place. I agree with Kristen G. that their shows are a bit pricey, but when you're basically the only game in town you can charge more for that entertainment. Plus, they have to pay the rent and they aren't as established as the UCB theatre and probably make more money from cover fees than improv classes. I'd like to take an improv class someday but I haven't worked up the courage to give it a go yet. I can't wait for the next time I make it out for some hilarious improv. read more

We came here for an improv show and had a most excellent experience!!! We had preordered tickets for most of the people in our party, but had a few friends who did not preorder. Even though they had a full house, they graciously shuffled things around to let our entire party sit together. Prior to the start of the show, they have each audience member fill out a questionnaire. Answers from the questionnaires are used as part of the improv sketch. They also ask on the questionnaires whether you would like to be pulled up on stage or not. This meant the comedians and actresses in our party got their fix, while the rest of us were reassured that we wouldn't be put on the spot to join in on the skit. The show was hilarious, and we plan to go back again soon!! Also the drinks were good, and it's just down the street from como's which is a great dinner option if you plan to eat before or after the show. read more

If you decide to give Go Comedy! a try, bring your depends or a change of pants. You may or may not pee your pants due to the high levels of funny things being said on and off stage. If you don't pee, you might cry. And if you don't cry, you will laugh. And if you don't laugh... well then what the heck is wrong with you!?! I've been to Go twice now and only wish it was closer to home so I could go more often. It is a great theater space with a very comfortable vibe. The bar is great, plenty of yummy beer and spirts to choose from (many Michigan brands!!!) and there is not a bad seat in the house. They offer a lot of variety in their show selection - so you can't go wrong.
