The hike to the falls is less than a mile from the trailhead with a 200ft elevation gain. Bringing your whole family to appreciate its beauty shouldn't be much of an issue. I'm almost hesitant to write this review based on some of the disrespect I've seen for the nature in surrounding areas ie; Trash left behind by visitors and people engraving their Initials and other things on the trees/earth. Im hoping my review brings people to want to visit this great spot that our national parks/Forests have to offer! Map: Green Trails Grisdale No. 198 GPS GRID: N 47 21.227 W 123 33.912 Directions: - travel north on Forrest Road 22 "Wynoochee Road" -Turn right on Forrest Road 23 and take for 17 miles - the trailhead sign "spoon creek falls" will be on your right. Today I didn't get my feet wet but previously we went during rainy times and we had to cross path in water to reach the waterfall. Kinda hard to find since not a lot of signs but my phone navigation got me there. Not much or no cell service. So if needed print it out. Just past the entrance to the waterfall is a fire pit area for possible day camp. Today someone had a tent in this location.Beautiful waterfall with such clear water. Very peaceful and quite.

The campsites are beautiful and scenic. I especially enjoy staying near the Hoh River. If you're planning a summer trip, reserve your site early because this is a popular spot! What keeps me coming back is how different each visit is. I always see plants and animals that I didn't spot the year before. There are also several hiking trails to choose from, and they even have a horse trail! My favorite hike is, of course, the Hall of Mosses. It's a short loop but there's SO much to take in along the way. Every year I make sure to join the Hall of Mosses ranger walk, and somehow I always walk away having learned something completely new. The rangers are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. A heads up for anyone planning to visit: they manage entry to the visitor area and parking lot so that everyone who gets in has a place to park. I greatly appreciate this, but it does mean a wait. We usually arrive after 9AM and typically spend 1.5-2 hours in line. Be ready to wait, because it's very worth it. I'm already looking forward to next summer!

The parking lot is small and it fills up fast in the morning. This park is absolutely beautiful - a lush rainforest that is close to a river and has tons of flora to see. Very easy hikes overall, I think almost anyone could do these.

Part of the building is dedicated to exhibits and historical information. There's also a park film being shown (I did not watch this). The gift shop is well stocked with books, souvenirs, and the usual NPS offerings. I made the walk (it's pretty flat, and less than 2 miles long) out to Sol Duc Falls and also spent some time at Lake Crescent. Wow, Lake Crescent is absolutely beautiful, with clear water and it wasn't crowded. You get a real sense of peace hanging out by the water. Up at Hurricane Ridge, I found Klahane Ridge trail to have amazing views. It was more crowded, but there was good camaraderie. I unfortunately didn't have enough time to check out Hoh Rain Forest, but I'll be sure to do some hikes there next time! I want to also hike Mt Storm King!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time spent along the Pacific Ocean at Mora, then south to Kalaloch and Ruby beaches. The upper Hoh River Rainforest with herds of elk also amazing. Lake Crescent, with deep crystal-clear water and a beautiful historic lodge was also impressive, but perhaps the most spectacular was Hurricane Ridge and the expansive view into the interior of the Olympic Mountains. You can do a loop drive and see all of this in two days if short on time.

I wish there was a sign because you'll get asked a lot, "Is that the trail?" To access the waterfall, if you want to get great shots of the waterfall, you have to climb down to it. We weren't able to because we have an 8-month-old. But we used to climb down to the waterfall years ago. It's a must! Our first time at this hike was 6 years ago, and we've done it a handful of times since then. I do want to say every time we have come there, there are hardly any people on the trail. Most people will scramble down by the waterfall. It's fun. You do see people turn around at the tree/bench because it's a steep climb down. But you are able to still see the waterfall. Parking: There are about maybe 10 cars that can fit, and then parking a couple of feet ahead. Restroom: None

There is some parking available right across from the trailhead. There are a lot of small fallen trees, probably due to that huge windstorm that happened a couple weeks ago. There is one tree you will have to climb over. I'm 5'0 and it was tall enough where I was almost sitting on it when I walked over it. And best of all the waterfall is spectacular! Definitely won't disappoint. I don't know how it is in the summer. There are also smaller water falls you can see on the way there.

The road is pretty primitive and has huge divots and potholes so proceed with caution. The trail is also pretty muddy even with the slightest rain so again, proceed with caution. With that said, this cedar is actually pretty huge. A large majority of it has collapsed and spilled it's guts onto the forest floor but it's still a neat sight to see. You can walk on it or climb through the holes and just crank your neck up at such a gargantuan natural phenomena. Even with the spilled guts, there is still a lot of tree left standing. It's free to check out and not far off the roadway so it's a quick stop.

The hike up to the tree builds just the right amount of anticipation as it's just like climbing up a treehouse. Navigating steep stairs (as high as I could lift my leg) and scampering over tree roots yields a great payoff when you reach the top. Be sure to walk all the way around it as you can actually go inside it. I'm sure there are studio apartments smaller than the inside of this tree. Wear boots as it can get mucky back there! Take some pics and clamber back down. Congrats! Now you've just seen my new favorite tree!
