LIke many people, we rely on customer reviews and word of mouth when hiring for home projects. Despite being the most expensive option, we chose Refined Roofing after relying on other customer reviews. A huge mistake! In short, do not hire Refined Roofing because of their lack of site management, their lack of professionalism, and their deceitful behavior. We live in a neighborhood where houses are close to one another. We were concerned about the impact of our project on our neighbors and made this clear to Refined Roofing at the start. We were promised careful site management from a site supervisor, with a specific promise to tarp the area, including the neighbor's yard, to capture all debris. NO supervisor was on site during the actual execution of the project. As the photo shows, the area was INADEQUATELY tarped, debris was carelessly spewed all over our property and our neighbor's. When supervisors finally visited the site, they promised to repair the neighbor's yard. Once I paid my bill, they refused to make good on their promise. Additionally, the actual workmanship was sloppy. Among other things, they knowingly applied broken shingles to the new roof and did not apply a promised second coat of rubber in one area. Furthermore, the owners of Refined Home Services, Gino and Karen, were rude, dismissive, and dishonest when confronted with the facts. They denied that there was any debris mismanagement or damage, despite the photo proof included here. While the company replaced the broken shingles and finally cleaned up the initial mess, they refused to take responsibility for the damage they caused and left us in the uncomfortable situation they created with our neighbors. In short, Refined Roofing lacks quality of service, integrity, and decency. This company is not worth hiring ... ever.

After having hired him for extensive work, I believe that Gino Spero runs a racket business that…read morebilks homeowners by lying about labor done and materials used. He gives you a relatively high estimate (supposedly because of quality) and then farms out the labor to a cheaper third party subcontractor for whom he does inadequate quality assurance nor does he supervise. He lies on the contract and becomes borderline unreachable once the work is finished and inevitably deteriorates as the seasons change. We hired him to build a roof which he did not weatherproof--or likely did not inform his subcontractors to--and then denied any wrongdoing once the roof started to collapse. There are open holes on the roof not even supported by plywood and he afterward tried to claim that the wrapping paper and felt used between wood and shingles was really a water shield as stated in his contract, which of course is a categorical lie. When confronted with the photos he lied again and stated that the "Grace ice and water shield" had really been used. It was not. The damage caused by this is extremely expensive and time consuming to address. The entire roof is covered with cheap paper. The leaks are extensive and directly above the HVAC system and electrical equipment. In addition to that the shingles are hastily glued on and too few were used overall which of course can only lead to more water penetration. They ended up tossing a good number of shingles that we had bought from them. The deck was full of holes, and the roof corners not even taped or covered with plywood. He tried to blame all leaks on parts of the roof he did not work on but this is easily disproven by an objective outside party. Even more fatally, the decks were not built with any slope or incline, so they collect water like rice cookers. He of course did not offer to fix or reimburse for the necessary work to fix it and is onto his next scam. We tried calling him countless times to fix the damage but he never showed up. You can get away with a lot of borderline fraudulent behavior in the contracting world and he is an embarrassment to other roofers and honest people in this business.

That it literally rotted even more. 45° Angle cuts where way off a lot of dap fill in. The vynal siding bubbled out in the middle of the front of the house. Had to tell them that a pc was sticking out from the house. Vynal siding still falling off that week and yrs later. Gutters do not have them install gutters. I had a pretty new metal roof. They dropped onto the metal roof on the attached shed. A hole in that. They used purple silicone on blue roof. Contract final payment when complete yet constant looking for more money when the job is incomplete. Gutters they installed had it running down the middle on to the three season porch roof. Instead originally drained down the back. They redid had made this funky hamster maze looking thing with a bunch of elbows. They my other gutters where custom made. That clogged right away with the leaf guards they installed. Guy came and said he saw nothing. They said well said I have to have it cleaned twice a year. Bunch elbows is where it was clogged. So first winter snow ripped off three leaf guards they screwed back in and repeated the following winter. Well I had utterly gutters come out. They said the leaf guards installed are not supposed to be used for metal roofs. MY HOUSE LITERALLY LEAKED IN MY HOUSE DURING A HEAVY RAIN STORM VERY SHORTLY AFTER. THERE GUY SAID TRIED TO TELL MY WIFE IT WAS A PLUMBING ISSUE. CALLED THEM OUT ON IT. SAYING NO CAPS ON TRIM. THAT IF THE HOUSE WAS PROPERLY TYVEK PROPERLY STILL SHOULDN'T LEAK INTO THE HOUSE. THE JOB SUPERVISOR MADEY WIFE GO OVER THE ISSUES WITH THE EMPLOYER.

The stairs were tricky due to existing structures (old house) but they figured out the best approach and executed it beautifully. PBS handled the permit, the check for gas/water lines, and multiple inspections. All I had to do was make a couple decisions when presented with options, and then sit back and relax. Work proceeded on time, in pretty much all weather--in fact they started the day after a February blizzard, which didn't seem to bother them at all! The team was courteous, helpful, and answered all my questions. When the project finished, clean-up was fast and thorough. Her suggestions were spot on and resulted in a spectacular remodel. The work done by GSC was great with solid attention to detail. All of the subs (plumbing, granite, drywall) were all excellent as well. All very nice and respectful. No issues with their work and we felt very comfortable with them in our house. My guess is that the business is one of those slimy places that has no prices written down anywhere so they may scale the total based on what they think the customer would pay. Slimy, gross, will never set foot in that store ever again.

A drunk driver drove into the foundation of our 270 year old antique colonial which resulted in so…read moremany headaches beginning with insurance company, court appearances and general havoc in our lives. We were very concerned that so many contractors would not be experienced enough to deal with the challenges that a house, built in 1753 would naturally have. Dave and Mike came into an absolute mess with our post and beam construction since the damage to the fieldstone foundation impacted the entire house. They did a fabulous job, better than any of our expectations. Whenever they encountered a problem we thought would be insurmountable, they calmly figured it out; even as our house was then effected by the Columbia gas explosion, right in the middle of construction. Dave gave us good advice, made solid suggestions on how to maximize our insurance money and was calm even when we were not. The communication was quick and clear even with the other contractors.
