My friend and I went to a hip hop step aerobics class here on a Saturday morning. The studio is pretty spacious, with different rooms and water provided which is a plus. The instructor was full of energy and motivation. He would put on songs and show us what to do for the entire song. It does get repetitive but boy what a work out! Song selections pump you up and mainly this class is for working out your legs, although he also incorporates arms and core too. He called our names out at times which added a personal touch. He is friendly, smiles a lot and goes around the class to show you how a certain workout is done without getting too in your face. Afterwards, you get to sign the hall of fame with a paint marker! read more

I attended the Hip Hop Step Aerobics class. Reading the rest of the great reviews it looks like the spin class might be great, but I can only base my review on my experience. Maggie D is exactly right. You do one move and one move only for THE WHOLE SONG. You will reach down and touch your toes for 3.5 minutes. You will step up and down on the step for 3.5 minutes. No change in arm movements, no change in direction, just the exact same thing over and over. And the pace is way too fast. How can you have correct form when you are frantically trying to keep up with the music?! I was simultaneously exhausted and bored at the same time. A seeming eternity went by and when I looked up at the clock it had been 10 minutes. Never a good sign. Chris demonstrated the move and then stood off to the side. I was especially bothered that he started videotaping us and didn't even ask permission. At one point during class he sat down at the desk and appeared to be on the computer. Other class participants were clearly regulars and felt very comfortable in the studio. A number of them brought their phone chargers and plugged in to the wall behind them, and then started texting in between songs... The only word I can use is bizarre. I have never seen that happen at any other studio. Obviously he has regulars who like this style of exercise, but this was not step aerobics as I have ever done it and I didn't enjoy it at all. As someone with zero experience cycling, this studio has made an excellent first impression. I discovered it via Groupon & I will definitely be continuing. There's a variety of classes, but they do fill up so I'd recommend reserving your space online. Most classes run back to back so when you arrive there's a good chance Chris will be leading a class- just sign in at the front & wait. I like to get on the bike & warm up a bit. The music is awesome & Chris is very engaging. I was super sore after my first class just getting used to the bike seat. But, after that first session the soreness is more manageable. Most days there's a mix of cycling & boot camp. Some days you even get to play with a skip it! read more

I found this gym through class pass. Admittedly I at first was hesitant. BUT I had the time of my life in class. The owner is so funny and so passionate about what he does. It's truly a community in there. It was way more fun than other classes where you're just a number. The hip hop spin cycle - bootcamp class is a good work out but the thing that bugged me was the lack of interest from the instructor. He spent a lot of the time looking down at his tablet and when we went out into the open area he had us hula hoop for 2 entire songs while he sat at the computer. Studio - there is plenty of parking as it is in a shopping strip. The studio was clean - he was actually mopping as people came in which was a bit odd since no one was manning the entry desk where you sign in / sign waiver forms. This place is awesome! Chris is an excellent instructor, with a clear enthusiasm for fitness. His energy is inspiring and light hearted, but he's definitely a coach and makes you work. He is personable, takes the time to learn names and make you feel welcome. His fusion classes are challenging and fun, giving you a great combination of strength training and cardio for a full body workout. I've never taken a class without being sore the next day. He always pumps out the hip hop jams keeping you energized until the end of class. Definitely check this place out if you're looking to get a great sweat and mix it up! This place is AWESOME! I had a friend introduce me. She told me it would be so tough, but worth it. She told me that you get your money's worth. Oh yeah! You can expect to sweat, feel like you might die, feel really good, and have a lot of fun, all at the same time. Chris is truly passionate about what he does. You can tell he loves what he does, and really cares about everyone in his classes. During my first class ever there, I didn't get a chance to introduce myself before class because he had a class right before mine. During class, he encourages everyone, and tells them they are doing a good job, or keep it up, you can do it, that kind of thing. And I heard him say good job and my name. I looked around because surely he didn't know my name already? He did! He looked at the sign in sheet so that he could include me when he encouraged everyone. It made me so happy. He also made a point to thank me for coming at the end, and made sure I signed his wall. All of this on my first visit! So this first class was the Hip Hop step. It was challenging but so fun at the same time. Chris is always saying encouraging things, funny things. It really keeps you going. Some of my favorites are, "The worst thing that could happen is you get in shape," and 45 minutes into a 60 minute class, "Okay, almost done with the warmup." This is usually after something really hard that you feel like dying. But it is funny and pushes you to keep going. I sweat like no other, was so tired, and was sore for days. And I felt great! I wanted to go back. I got the groupon for the spin. The spin class is half spin, half boot camp. It is a nice variety so it doesn't get boring. Still challenging. Which is a good thing! We all need that push in working out so we can look good! You will definitely see results from these classes. You will build more muscle tone and feel stronger. Chris will make sure of that, there is no slacking on his watch! All of the music is hip hop music and Chris does a great job at being DJ. The music always gets you going and want to keep going. It makes the class fun! I would highly recommend this gym to anyone. All ages and levels can join. You can take breaks when needed, and everyone is very friendly. No one judges you. There are some workout places that seem cliquey when you go, but you will not find that here. Everyone encourages everyone and you will get help from others if you need it. You will not find another gym like this in Houston. read more

I started working with Glory Fitness training in August, and in those 3 months, I've lost 31 lbs! This is twice as much as I've ever been able to achieve alone. In addition to the great results, there is tremendous flexibility with my work schedule. I work nights as a registered nurse, so I sleep during the day before and after shifts. I'm able to get my hour of training in (3 days a week) and still get all the sleep I need. It's also great to be able to call the trainers in an occasional urgent situation, and be able to change my appointment around. As a healthcare professional, I look for a trainer that not only is physically fit, but is knowledgeable and educated about human anatomy, physiology, and exercise. Glory Fitness Manager, Chris Boykins, has all these qualities and has a Master's in Health and Human Performance to back it up. His education played a big role in my choosing Glory Fitness for my personal training needs. The variety of exercises keep me moving and I'm never bored. The customization of the workout plan and nutrition suggestions fit my current abilities and tastes, and has really jump started my weight loss. The group training boot camps that are available outside of one-on-one time are a killer (hence the 4/5 stars) but are great for people who live to push themselves and relish a challenge. I'm just not there yet, but I'm sure I'll get there with the continued collaboration with Glory Fitness for my health and body goals. This review sounds too awesome, but it's true! I've lost twice as much weight as I've ever been able to do by myself, I'm working with educated professionals, and the flexibility and customization are outstanding. read more

I don't usually write reviews but I gotta say I really love this gym. I found out about glory fitness through class pass and was very impressed with his workouts! I always leave his classes feeling like I got a thorough work out. I disagree with previous reviewers who said that they felt Chris (the trainer) was not attentive. He was very helpful when I had trouble with some of the moves and he helped me get fitted on my bike. A big plus: he plays GREAT music. This review is based solely on Glory's lack of communication. I bought a Groupon and wanted to redeem it. Signed up for their online system but wasn't able to redeem the Groupon. I sent an email to the email address on the website. No reply. After 3 days, I sent a follow up. Again no reply. I called the number on the Groupon, yet the phone just rang without the option to leave a message. I called the number listed on the website, left a message and again, haven't received a call back. A waste of time and pretty unprofessional for a company trying to get new business. read more

I have been going to Chris Boykins' classes for several years. He is warm and tough and it is a good combination for fitness. He has a positive attitude and this helps me to work hard. Lorraine Gant joined as another fitness instructor this past year. She is really tough, much tougher than Chris. The best thing I like about Lorraine, and the hardest part of her classes, is that she goes around and corrects my movements. She is a tough instructor, she knows how to explain specific movements, she is also tough physically, she is in phenomenal shape and a fantastic role model for me. read more

I attend the Glory Fitness Boot camp on weekday mornings at 5:30 AM. Yes, I said 5:30 AM. The workouts are different every day...one day we might focus on gluts and legs, whereas another day we focus on abs and core exercises. The trainer believes in muscle confusion, which is great for many reasons...the least of which is that the workouts NEVER get boring. Some of the exercises we do include: lunges (lots of lunges), side lunges, squats, squat jumps, military squats, crunches, side crunches, sit ups, leg lifts, core holds, shuttle runs (my fave), V-ups (another fave), workouts with bands and weights, etc. This is an outdoor workout, so it is great during the cool weather, but not so great during the hot humid Houston mornings. read more

I first learned about Glory Fitness through one of their trainers - 66 year old Lorraine Gantt, and I started working out with her on February 15th. What endeared me to this group was when I was working out at the first Praise Fit Tour on February 17th, which was being led by the owner - Chris Boykins. At 62, I knew I was one of the older people at the event but Chris made me feel very comfortable during the exercises (even through I struggled with all of them) and even helped me with sit-ups! I could tell he was passionate about fitness but the compassion and encouragement he showed as the leader let me know this was a place I could stick with. Although I work primarily with Lorraine, I have found every one of the trainers to be very personable and encouraging and also passionate about their craft. During these 2 months I've gotten really good results and am enjoying myself in the process. The personal touch and family feel is what keeps me coming back. read more

Was able to have Chris as a personal trainer a few years ago, and I would definitely recommend him to anyone! During our training, I was also able to attend a few of his bootcamp classes as well as his spin class, and they were great. I worked with him for 3 months, and saw amazing results during that time, I never thought I'd be able to do some of the things he had me do. He made each workout challenging and creative which is a hard feat, especially when working with someone like myself who gets bored very easily. Wow! What a great workout! My sister found this place through Groupon, which offers a 10 class pass for first time customers. We signed up for our first Pilates and Cycling class early Saturday morning (no easy feat for these non-early birds). After getting over the initial pain of starting our workout, it was refreshing to push through our 1 hour session. We started off with several arm and leg exercises on the Pilates machine. The arm exercises were especially hard, given the amount of resistance from the machine and our own body weight. Later, we moved on to the next room for cycling, which was a killer workout. Chris was really helpful in setting up our stationary bikes to the specified handle, seat, and resistance settings. At the end of the session, we were winded, but so proud we finished this workout! I loved the hip hop music playing during our session, since it kept our motivation going. The facility is clean, and they provide you with towels and Lysol wipes to clean each of your individual machines. You can sign up for future classes via their Mindbody app, which is definitely convenient. We can't wait to try their other classes and push the limit on how hard we can workout. read more

I totally love Chris and his hardcore spin classes. For those of you who feel like you have to drag yourself to the gym, you have to try his spin classes. You will look forward to going. I have been working out with a trainer for 10 months now and I have seen better/faster results with these spin classes in just 2 weeks. I am one of those people who hates having to work out period but I am addicted to his spin classes and make time to go as much as possible. Trust me, it's really fun and different. Can't say enough about Chris Boykins and this studio! I found Glory Fitness through Classpass, but after trying many different fitness classes and studios, I decided Glory was the best fit for me---it was so much fun! It was the only place I tried where I really got a great workout and actually enjoyed going. The music is awesome! For me it makes every class fly by. I have been going to Glory regularly for a year now and I still love it. I am an athletic person but was feeling in a rut and wanted to join somewhere where I attended more regularly. My goal was to lose a little weight and tone up and I am so happy with my results. Without making too many adjustments to my diet, I have lost about 10-12 lbs since I started. Chris is motivating and a really challenging coach. He offers many different classes and no class is ever exactly the same. I would definitely recommend trying them all out- you really can work and strengthen every part of your body that way. I also feel that he is really invested in his students, especially when you come regularly. I disagree with other reviews that he isn't paying attention to you or isn't interested in the topic--Chris is one of the hardest working, most dedicated people I've ever met. He will instagram class videos, but I don't really mind that. This is definitely not a froo froo studio or gym like Define or SoulCycle, as some of the other reviews point out. It definitely has a small studio or crossfit type feel where you show up and jump right in. It might not be for everyone, but I particularly like the community feel to it (on top of the fact that it's affordable and I get a great workout every time I go). read more

Although I hate leaving negative reviews and hate being "mean", I feel like I owe it to my fellow Class-Passers to leave a review so that they can get a better idea of what a workout here is like. The owner, Chris, is really nice and friendly, but the workout was by far one of the worst classes I have been to. I will simply lay it out for you as non-subjectively as I can. I only took the Hip Hop Step class, but my friend who took the boot camp class said the exact same thing (we both took the class through Class Pass). The step classes I'm used to have some sort of warm up, choreography, and use of the step... This class was broken down by songs - you do something different for each song, but you do the same thing over and over for the whole duration of the song. We hula-hooped every other song. Yes, we stood there half the time hula-hooping for the whole song (the way we incorporated the step was that we stood on top of it while we hula-hooped). The other songs consisted of something along the lines of standing on the step and stepping from side to side off the step repeatedly...for the whole song. The first song (warm up) consisted of standing straight up and bending down to touch our toes with our legs straight to the beat of the music (it was pretty fast and most people could not bend and straighten that fast). I'm not really sure what it was warming up, but I think I strained my hamstring doing it. I think some of the other women in the class got a good work out, but it was pretty boring to me. I could have gotten a much better workout by myself. BUT if you like simple moves that are easy to follow and you love to hula-hoop, this may be a good class for you. Another friend highly recommended the spin class and I'm sure it's much better because how can you really mess up spin. If you do decide to try Glory Fitness, I say start with the spin class. Also, I must say the music was good (mostly old school hip hop). read more

I met Chris Boykins at LoneStar where I was taking a Physical Education class. I was really dreading this semester, but he made it so worth while! Fitness has always been so overwhelming to me, so I tend to start a plan and then quit only weeks later. I have faced being overweight since my youth, and I finally feel like I have the tools to lose weight and keep it off. I have been in class for 11 weeks now, and I have already lost 15 pounds! I've gone to the spin class twice now and loved it. Chris spends time with any newcomers to orient you and make sure your bike is set up correctly prior to the class starting. The class itself has great music and he incorporates an entire body workout into the house. I liked that he sticks to one routine per song, so it doesn't get confusing and messy. Also with a 10-15 segment off the bikes in the middle of the class, you give your legs a break. It's a great workout without the sore knees that can come with other spin classes. read more

I have been working out with Chris at his 5:45 am boot camp class on and off for approximately 5 years. Quite simply he is the best fitness instructor I have ever been to. Every workout is different and he keeps it fun. He will help you modify the exercises if you need him to-just ask!
