I have been to this restaurant more than any other restaurant in the Elmwood area. This is because I used to have seasons passes for Shea's Theater for three years running. I used to go to all the shows with my daughter and afterwords we would go out to eat. She always wanted to go here, which was fine by me. If you are lucky enough to be there when they offer their tomato basil soup, I highly suggest you try this. It is the best soup ever. Wish they served this every time, but the soups change. I've tried making this myself, but with no success. The other item I really love is the portabella mushroom sandwich. It is so delicious. The bread and all the fixings on it are so, so good. Comes with tortilla chips. Everything else I've had here is very good, but these two items are my favorites. I like the ambiance too and there are always tables to sit at. My only suggestion for this restaurant is they need appropriate signage to emphasize the way in which you order. My friends and I weren't sure if we had to pay first or order first. Globe is the perfect lunch spot. If it is a hot summer day you can get a great sandwich and salad combo and for the cold winter days the sandwich and soup combo hits the spot. Their plethora of daily soup options and signature sandwiches makes Globe an every-day option. Their hot sandwiches, wraps, and salads are also really good. I would recommend specifics but I've had almost everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. There are so many things to love about Globe Market: the menu, the service, the fresh salads, the seating options, the central Elmwood location, the beverage selection, the clean bathrooms.... We all know the list could go on. Parking is not as easy as it used to be but that isn't their fault. I do wish that there were more vegan options. I got a salad one day that I thought was vegan and found out afterwards that it had parmesan cheese in it. I hadn't asked if it was vegan initially (I'm in an experimental phase so at that point I was being pretty quiet about my interests). When I found out it had cheese and mentioned something about having thought it was vegan, the girl at the counter was visibly upset that I might have eaten something I'm not supposed to or don't want to. She immediately labeled the salad as having dairy in it. I thought it was really sweet that she actually cared that much. Not all places are like that. The prices aren't the cheapest but when you take into account the location and the quality of the food, I think they are reasonable for what you are getting. And, in my opinion, this is the type of business that we want to have on Elmwood. We all know there are a couple of neighboring chain restaurants that are using up real estate that would be better filled by locally owned businesses. In any case, do check out Globe Market if you haven't before, or just haven't in a while. I came here on a Monday early afternoon (12pm) with friends for lunch. It is a lovely spot in Elmwood Village that offers sandwiches, soups, cold cuts & salads, snacks and desserts. There is outdoor seating and indoor tables with complimentary coffee & cold water. It was a lovely sunny Monday but we decided to eat indoor since there was limited seating outdoor. The soup of the day is written on a floor chalkboard by the door. There were 4 type of soups offered that day (4/15) which all sound delicious: Curry Pumpkin, Italian Sausage Minestrone, Cream of Mushroom and Burmese Chicken. I ordered the special combo which is half sandwich and half salad or soup for $7.95. I decided on the Burmese Chicken soup and a Chipotle Turkey sandwich. The soup was excellent!! If it was that great, I wonder how the Curry Pumkin or the Italian Sausage minestrone soup taste.... mmm I could imagine it. Simply put: I just love the Globe Market. While it's a tad expensive, everything else about the place is great! It's my go-to quick lunch spot. I like to support local businesses and their food is much better than the chained Panera across the street. I usually go with one of their soups and the chipotle turkey sandwich under the pick two, 1/2 sandwich and soup deal. All of their soups are great--I've never disliked any of them. The hot and sweet pork, apple butternut squash, and tomato orzo are always great. Quick, easy place to grab a bite to eat. Outside patio was peaceful and roomy. We ordered two sandwiches and sides of pasta salad and greek salad. The Italian sandwich was tasty and the grilled veggie was even tastier, which was surprising because I tend to like the meat options better. Good value on the sandwiches, pasta sides were a little pricey. The past 3 times I've come here I have left unsatisfied. I used to love it here but I feel as though the food has become very bland. I got the caprese sandwich, which I had to ask for dressing and then put lots of salt and pepper to give it flavor. Then just recently I ordered the Greek wrap with a side of Brussel sprouts, the Brussel sprouts were not good- at all. They seems slightly old and just didn't even taste like a Brussel sprouts. And my Greek wrap was dry and just tasted like raw veggies. I also had to ask for dressing to spruce it up a bit. It isn't cheap so i doubt I'll be back for a while. I'd rather go somewhere else where I KNOW the food is flavorful and delicious. I don't like to waste my money on food that's not good! They also overcharged me, $29 for a wrap, side of Brussel sprouts, and my mom got a KIDS size quesadilla. She eventually figured it out and refunded my money. But it was still $25. Stopped into Globe yesterday afternoon. We were shopping on Elmwood and it was a blustery, cold day. Globe is always a perfect spot to grab lunch and yesterday did not disappoint. Their homemade soups are great with three selections daily. You can grab items to go or eat in. The atmosphere is warm, lively and welcoming. Well, my my my thank you for the wonderful suggestion. Globe Market is home to some of the freshest food I've tasted in a long time! I had the turkey sandwich with goat cheese and dried cranberries. My friend has been going to The Globe for years now, and she finally encouraged me to come along and try the place she's been raving about. I have to admit that I have been hesitant to visit this place, because a place known for healthier food catering to a younger crowd tends to be overhyped and too expensive. I couldn't have been more wrong about this place. I ordered a Ham sandwich on a baguette with spicy mustard, greens and onions. I also got a coke and a side of red, white, and blue tortilla chips. The ham was juicy and delicious, the greens were fresh and the mustard was the spiciest mustard I have ever tasted. The baguette had a crunchy crust and soft interior and was incredibly tasty. At $10 for my meal, the price was a little on the high side, but in my opinion it was worth every penny. This was easily one of the best sandwiches I've had in my entire life. I am a big fan of Panera Bread, which has recently opened across the street from this place. In this situation, I can't imagine ever willingly visiting Panera again with this right across the street. Instead of dropping $14 on a sandwich and drink at the mainstream imitation, I'd rather support a local business and get a better sandwich all around. It's worth mentioning that there are a lot of vegetarian and vegan options at this place if that is your thing. My friend tells me that they do veggie dishes right and are worth making the trip for. The Globe needs to be very careful that Gourmet Magazine doesn't sue them for copying all of the recipes out of their 1982 March edition. Ive eaten here a number of times out of sheer desperation and have always left with the impression that I should have brought my grandmother. Globe's jumbled mess of a menu includes such treats as a Pulled Pork roll (extremely fibrous and tasteless) a Quesadilla (isn't the world tired of Quesadilla's yet?) and a Roast Beef sandwich with brie and green apple. Yum! Where's the jello mold and pumpernickel dip? While the food itself isn't necessarily bad it is bland, antiquated and boring. The few saving graces are the Chipotle Turkey sandwich, the selection of chips and the fact that they sell Orangina. Oh, and NASA have just added a strange landmass north of Buffalo to their list of objects on Earth that are visible from space. The news bulletin said something about a landfill full of uneaten red tortilla chips. read more

Here's one: It might be worthwhile to consider the fact that anyone who enjoys eating at Globe Market has either, 1) an entirely deficient brain or, 2) a translucent skull. Here's why: If you eat at Globe Market, bring your galoshes. Wear your slicker! But really! What soggy sandwiches! I confess that my entire review is based on a single (soggy) experience! An experience in which I was covered from noggin to buttocks in a slimy salmon paste after unwrapping my fish sandwich. The worst part is that it wasn't even my lunch! I had opened the wrong sandwich by mistake! "This is a kind of soggy surprise," I thought-- as the salmon saturated my favorite pair of khakis. Of course, I didn't even get to eat MY OWN sandwich, as I spent the rest of the afternoon exploring a certain intimacy with the blow dryer. As for me, my Dockers are still covered in a kind of gelatinous paste. You see what I mean, certainly--as you no doubt value the disappointment over losing a particularly favorable pant. Now listen: I confess that Globe Market manages to fill their sandwiches with an incredible amount of fluid. And, to make matters somehow worse, the sandwiches are really quite uninteresting and tasteless in spite of their fluid characteristics. A Wet sandwich? Really? If you ask me, wetness is only appropriate and desirable in aquariums and possibly swim meets. I'm convinced--my husband agrees--that Globe Market dips all of their breads, meats, and cheeses into the erie canal as a sad, sick joke intended only to upset their patrons. Globe is one of my favorite lunch spots in Buffalo. This Elmwood location, being close to my apartment, is a great option year round. In the summer, I love grabbing a meal and sitting outside. I pretty much always go for a pick-two combo no matter what time of year it is. You must try the Roast Turkey sandwich. It's got cranberry mayo, and a delicious sage derby cheese. It's like Thanksgiving dinner in a sandwich, but BETTER than one you can make at home. I always pair my sandwich with a soup, and let me tell you, they have some great soups. In the summer they serve a nice gazpacho. In the winter, they have a rotating variety of creamy or brothy, vegan or non-vegan soups. The soups are especially great in the winter. I've never really had a bad meal here at all. I generally enjoy everything. On the downside, the place IS pricy. Not for somebody on a budget, honestly. But every once in a while, this place can give you an awesome lunch. read more

The location on elmwood is great because they have a lot of outdoor seating which can be hard to come by in the city- the hertel location is much more cozy and has a ton of character. The food is pretty good but overpriced. You can get pick two from a soup, salad, or half sandwich but it's only a garden salad and certain sandwiches apply for around $9. I had the house salad last which is a big salad with apricots, dried cranberries, spinach, and their house made balsamic. Walnuts came on the salad but I am allergic and they had nothing to substitute. No other protein on the salad and it was over $9 with tax. I enjoy the hertel location more but elmwood is great for people watching. I simply think they get bonus points for outdoor seating but I am otherwise not overly impressed with the times I've been here. If you had more for your money or prices dropped I'd agree that this is a great place for lunch. read more

I was really surprised that this place had 4 stars. My friend and I came here for lunch last weekend and the sandwiches were ok, I could probably make better ones at home. We were really excited about the soups but mine was not super exciting either, I had the tortellini soup that was incredibly salty and had too much seasoning. I'm usually quite satisfied and happy with my experiences at Globe Market. The food is always well made and well put together, fresh ingredients, a good local model, and a relaxed atmosphere for easy digestion. Though sometimes I actually haven't liked what I ordered, it's because I was being experimental and it didn't work out for me. Alas, you can be experimental here with good stuff. I'd recommend the Get 2 offer - pick two out of a soup, 1/2 sandwich, 1/2 salad. Their soups are great and they have a Vegan one most of the time, if not all the time. The grilled bree and apple sandwich is amazing. And, frankly, I want a bucket filled with the spinach/strawberry/goatcheese/walnut salad. I'm so indecisive these days, so pretend I'm giving a 3.5 star review. Alright, it may just be me but I'm not completely in love with Globe. It's ok, but they always seem to run out of the sammich I want, or skimp on the tortilla chips. The food selection is more than decent for vegetarians but vegans should tred carefully. Everytime I've been there the drink selection seems to shrink, too. Cmon! The service is always very helpful and brings your food out when it's ready if you are eating in. There are bathrooms in the back and they are usually very clean. If you're in a wheelchair, it's all flat but it's an extremely tight fit, especially if the place is crowded. It's a step up to get to the place, but there should also be a ramp on the side. Caveat emptor. read more

Globe is a neat little deli in the heart of Elmwood Village. They have a number of very good soups and sandwiches, the combination of which makes for one of the tastiest lunches in the neighborhood. Now and again you can also find some interesting and unique beverages as well. In addition to this, you can also find little carry away food items, chocolate, chips, kettle corn, that kind of stuff. The staff is very friendly, very nice, and will gladly take your food to you when it is ready. Just step up to the counter, make your order, and they will tell you what register to go to pay for your meal. You can sit inside (as others have said, only a few tables) or you can sit outside. On a beautiful day it is really nice to sit out on one of the tables and enjoy your lunch. Prices - yes it is expensive. Well, more expensive than chain vomit. I am a huge fan of delis, mostly because I love to eat good sandwiches but I don't like making them myself/never have all the awesome fixings in my kitchen with which to make them. Globe Market is one of my favorite lunch spots thanks to their delicious menu of sandwiches, salads, and tasty desserts. The price to quality ratio is perfect, in my opinion; comparable to what you would pay at Whole Foods or New Seasons, with the knowledge that you are supporting a locally owned business. It doesn't get much better than that. I only wish they had a little bit more to offer in the dessert dept (I'm a sucker for baked goods, which I also love to eat but don't like to make for myself/never have all the awesome fixings in my kitchen), but what they do have in the case is usually awesome. Wonderful Fresh homemade foods. they've got something for everyone. A diverse assortment of salads and sandwiches. 4 fresh soups daily as well as a variety of sides and other interesting entrees. I usually end up going for the 1/2 salad/sandwich deal. All sandwiches are made on delicious homemade bread. They have quite the assortment too:multigrain, wheat, baguette and more. Quality deli meats and local produce help to enhance their salads and sandwiches. Soups are also great too. Chipotle Potato Cheese has to be my favorite. they have an excellent bean and sausage soup too. I have sampled many of their offerings and have rarely been disappointed. We had Globe cater a fun wedding reception/party, and they did a phenomenal job. The came in, set up a tremendous buffet, and carefully maintained it thereafter. We had small sandwiches with excellent bread, awesome salads, mac and cheese, and a dessert plate that was ridiculously good. I have used the catering service for cocktail parties. They accurately tell you how much to order without trying to upsell. The first time I called, I had everything already picked out from the website, and they told me I was ordering "too much". Glove Market is a tucked away oasis in the heart of Elmwood Village. The storefront is far back from the street, so it's fairly easy to miss on your first visit. A well-landscaped seating area works as a buffer between the market and the street, resulting in a sense of seclusion and security. The food quality is consistently excellent. Earth-happy proteins, veggies, and desserts sit prettily behind glass. Prices are okay; they're a little steep for a quick lunch, but they're reasonable for the quality of the product. WiFi is pretty terrible. Even though they have free internet access, it kicks in and out and is especially spotty on the patio. I would enjoy lounging at Globe longer if the WiFi was as consistent as the food product. Service is also just okay. Most employees that I've interacted with have fallen dead center on the "miserable to enthused" service scale, but interactions with them are fairly limited. Free flavored water is available inside the market, which has a cozy, eclectic vibe. The set-up allows personal conversation to flow amidst a low rumble of voices from other tables, promoting a sense of privacy and community connection. Overall, Globe is definitely worth repeat visits, but I wouldn't recommend on counting too strongly on their WiFi to get work done. read more
