This old world European deli in a rundown strip mall is a little haven for familiar and obscure deli meats, entrees, deserts and beer. They've added a tap for delicious draft and added some more seating. My go to is the Black Forest Ham sandwich on Rye with Havarti and a side of Sauerkraut (with bacon bits). I stopped in here today in the hopes of finding any sort of caffeine. Considering the nearest coffee shop was about a 15 minute walk and I wanted to stay close to my bus stop and wow am I glad I did. When I entered the gentleman working the counter was on the phone and stilled greeted me with such warmth, that I almost forgot what I had come in for in the first place. I searched the cold beverage selections and was pleasantly surprised they sold red bull. Right before I picked my drink the gentleman had concluded his call and instead of asking if I was finding everything ok just started speaking to me like we were old friends! The customers were even politely chatting amongst each other, it almost felt unreal how positive the environment was- especially considering I work at the happiest place on earth. In the end he poured me a fresh cup of coffee, that was the perfect temperature. I got some delicious snacks that I thought I had imagined in a fever dream because I haven't seen them since I was little and my parents travelled to Europe every summer. The Globe German Deli is awesome! I have been eating here for many years and I love the fact that they are a family owned business and cook and bake right on the premesis. The food is very fresh and the atmosphere is light and wonderful. I enjoy the beer while waiting for my food and the prices are so spot on for the quality. The owners let us sample the German potatoes salad, sauerkraut, pickled cabbage, cucumber salad. Once we tried them we were hooked and ended up staying for lunch. Came across this place on Yelp and just so happens is about a mile from my place. I stopped by after work and the owners instantly made me feel like life long friends. I was looking for traditional brats and they suggested their smoked brats (amazing decision). I ended up getting both and some dark beers (their choice since I'm not a huge beer drinker) to slow cook in and they turned out amazing! Such authentic quality! Very disappointed this go round. My Mom is as coming to visit today. I sent her some money and asked for a Beef Dip if not that a Bratwurst with everything. Well no dip was available so he said the Brat I would like. Very wrong on that. No Saurkrout at all just a sausage in a bun and a mustard container. The sausage wasn't even all that. So, today...as I have a few times. I made the drive from Riverside to Costa Mesa to surprise my husband and get him a sandwich and some potato salad. Yes, I drove from Riverside to Costa Mesa to get a sandwich and a couple of brats on rolls. Why, you ask? Wellll....because they are the best dang sandwiches EVER! My family loves this place, the food is phenomenal and the service is even better. They are the nicest people and yes, in a few weeks my husband will say "gee, I wish I could have a sandwich from that good German deli" and me being the "great wife" that I am, will drive to Costa Mesa and get it for him. I have been meaning to review this place: But I finally remembered to take pics before my friends and I killed the food - LOL! Its a quaint place in a strip mall next to South Coast Toyota and before you reach Triangle Square. They have a nice selection of deli meats, sausages and beer (Spaten!). I ordered the bratwurst lunch which comes w/ sauerkraut and german potato salad ($8.75) and the reuben w/ sauerkraut ($7.99). In summary: Brat was good. It was nicely seasoned and it had a nice char and snap to it. However, I felt the roll should have been smaller. The brat got lost in the bun; Sauerkraut was really good. It was nicely spiced and it went well w/ the brat and grainy mustard; Potato salad was so-so. I don't know if it would have tasted better warm, but it just didn't do anything for me. The reuben was also OK. Unfortunately, the rye flavor was not strong enough in the bread and the bread was not toasted. The meat was plentiful and fresh, but the bread was too soggy. I went to Mattern in Orange recently, and I think that Matterns is better than Globe. The reuben and german potato salad are excellent vs just OK at Globe. However, Globe is closer so I will come back again soon. Oktoberfest is right around the corner and they have giant pretzels available! read more
