I don't know how this business has 5 stars. I give her 1 because her personality is cool and the price wasn't bad. Although, she likes to talk A LOT, and it's all about herself. All the reviews I've read are about tanning. This is for a Brazilian wax. I saw on Groupon.
I arrived to my appointment about 10 minutes early. I waited 25 minutes to be seen. The salon is more of an office space with a thin 3/4 wall to separate the tiny waiting area from her current client. I could hear their entire conversation as well as the waxing procedure itself. This was odd but wasn't a deal breaker.
My main gripe is the unsanitary environment and procedures. There was a bed in a little area. The sheets were covered in old wax and other peoples hairs. There were wax stains all over the wall. The wax holding warmers were dirty and covered in old wax. When she called me back, while she was still talking to her previous client, in between sentences, she quickly told me what I should do (undress waist down lay on my back with my butt on a hand towel she had laid down and covered my front with another hand towel)
Mind you, back to back clients, no change in sheets, and I am to fit my not small butt on this hand towel that is bound to slip and slide around. I later found out there was no plumbing in her office, meaning she DID NOT wash her hands in between clients. She also DID NOT wear gloves. She touched me in the most sensitive part of my body with her bare hands, that had not been washed after her previous client. She touched the door knob, the curtain, her phone, the bench in her waiting area, and who knows what else, then proceeded to touch my most private area. I pray she at least uses hand sanitizer! I CANNOT believe the lack of sanitary concern from this person. Does she even have an esthetician license, cause I didn't see one posted.
As soon as she walked into the room she removed the top hand towel and started waxing. She didn't even ask me exactly what I wanted! Just assuming I wanted ALL my hair removed which I did not! I had to stop her before she removed it all to tell her what I wanted.
I have gotten a Brazilian before and this was by far the worst pain I have ever experienced. I literally had tears in my eyes. She does not talk you through the procedure, (just talks about herself) more importantly she does not hold the skin taught for lesser pain! When she was done she started wiping me with a small square wipe, maybe 2 inches big. I was in pure terror when she was doing this wiping all around my skin and from my but cheeks up to my vulva! Has she ever heard that a women is supposed to wipe from front to back!? Not to mention the wipe was so small I could feel her bare hands rubbing my skin. Then the torture is over she walks out and gets right on her phone, no hand washing!!
I was swollen and red for days after and my husband couldn't even touch me, and it hurt to wipe after going pee. Even a week later, I have blood bruises all over that sensitive area because she didn't hold the skin tight. I literally cried because of this experience. If I get any type of infection from this procedure, I will be calling Joanna directly.
I guess you get what you pay for. This is the cheapest Brazilian I have ever had and it shows! I will gladly pay $30 more for a cleaner, more careful experience! read more
