Realized it'd been awhile since we ate at Glenn's so made 6pm reservations (for last night) for our anniversary dinner. Were immediately seated with menus in a large booth, Jerry introduced himself as our server and offered a complementary glass of champagne. We accepted and began looking at food & wine (by the glass) menu. (We asked Jerry for the bottle listing, which was very extensive, wide range of wines & prices.) Jerry poured us each a serving of champagne and asked if we had any questions. I asked if they had fresh mint for a mojito and he said "Of course!" so I ordered one while we figured out meal. When Jerry brought back my mojito (excellently made & I'm a mojito snob), we placed our order. Split a Caesar salad, I had blackened redfish & hubs had bronze pork chop (& ordered 9-oz glass of dry Riesling). Salad & Riesling arrived with an extra plate and have to say Glenn's obviously makes their Caesar dressing as you can actually taste the anchovies: not at all overpowering, but a big change from most places. Jerry took away plates and entrees arrived shortly. The blackened redfish was a huge portion (hung over the plate) & actual redfish (not tilapia like some places pass off) and cooked to perfection (moist & flaky). This is a spicy dish so the grits were a nice "coolant" when heat came on. Hubs' tomahawk pork chop was huge and very moist & tender but did add salt to smashed potatoes. Jerry checked back to be sure all was good during salad and entree courses but was never hovering (or trying to "push" additional wine or drinks; I know alcohol is a main source of income for restaurants but many places get carried away) or overbearing. BTW: the only other place that's ever made a better mojito was at Coyote Cantina in Santa Fe: this bartender could get hired there! I had half of my redfish left so Jerry brought me a small box when he delivered (as we'd asked the check). So salad, mojito, Riesling and two entrees with tax & employee health care fund (makes sense to us) was a bit less than $130 for a very nice, relaxing celebratory dinner. They were not crowded as colleges not in session plus it's Memorial weekend (folks out for first summer holiday) so we really enjoyed ourselves: great food, excellent drinks & knowledgeable wait staff. read more

Husband and I came here for 2022 Restaurant Week. We have eaten at some amazing places all over US and Europe and this place is in our top group. The menu is New Orleans inspired foods. Shrimp and Grits, soup with mix of sausage and shrimp and other delightful yummies. Bread pudding with whiskey sauce. Own cocktail creations. My husband and I split everything, had plenty to eat and didn't break the bank. Could have been expensive if we were to order wine and each had our own dinner. The food and service was great, especially their corn bread! The only downside is that it's very loud and nothing to absorb the sound. It's hard to hear the person next to you, so loud voices are needed. The pricing is expensive but worth it. read more

My husband and I are frequent guests at Glenn's and have never had a meal we didn't think was really good. We typically go at lunch time since I work close by and you save a few dollars with the same portion size. I'll list my favorites and why. Deviled Eggs - I love the smoked salmon on top. Very creamy filling with just the right amount of seasoning. Fried Pickles - If your a fan of them these are really good and served with a house made dip. 8th Street Burger - A little higher price than other places downtown, but wow. It is huge (two meals for me) and filled with braised short rib. It is amazing. Cobb Salad - Huge. Perfect to split with someone. The house made bleu cheese dressing is very good. Catfish - This is a newer item on the menu and so glad it is! The catfish is crispy, flaky with a light cornmeal batter, and no "muddy" flavor to the fish. Our last visit my husband actually said he may never order anything else on the menu because it was so good. Chicken Fried Chicken - A very large piece of chicken which is moist on the inside and crispy batter on the outside. Pure comfort food. Blackened Redfish - If you are in the mood for fish or even watching calories, this is the way to go. Especially with the bourbon mashed sweet potatoes. Eggs Nouvelle Orleans - Just get it. Stopped by to get a glass of wine with my mom and sister. Spoke to the hostess and she told us to seat ourselves. Waited 15 minutes no one took our order so we got up and left. Glenn's Cafe was a festive place to close out the Christmas season. We had a post-holiday dinner with 14 people, and everyone enjoyed themselves. It suits downtown COMO. I had walked by many times, but I'd never eaten there. My niece who works at the university has dined there often. She recommended it. My wife's family is from St. Louis. They are close. One by one, they moved to Columbia, or, as I have learned it is called by locals, COMO. They have stragglers still in STL. One grandniece drove more than 90 minutes to join the evening, then went back home. The rest of us were already there, finishing up the celebration on December 27. The group had submitted the NY Times crossword puzzle to the competition just before we headed out for dinner. Glenn's serves Southern cuisine. Columbia feel to me, having grown up in Detroit and attended college in Baltimore, like a Midwestern version of the South. Glenn's has shrimp and grits and jambalaya and other dishes you would associate with the South. I'd bet, however, to someone from the Deep South, it would not seem especially Southern. That's fine. "Authenticity" is appropriately contested. The real issue is whether the food tastes good. That it did. With that many people, we had just about every dish that was available. I was eyeing the steak salad and the blackened fish. I decided on the meatloaf, which uses primarily pork, and I worked out a trade with a grandnephew who had the fried chicken and mac and cheese. The meatloaf was moist and flavorful. The mashed potatoes on the side were not as garlicky as I prefer, but my aspiration is to reek from every pore when I have anything that mentions garlic as an ingredient. The swap was a good idea. Another grandnephew had the straight-up fried chicken, and that looked better though less healthy, covered in a thick gravy. We started with the fried pickles, which were chips rather than spears. We also had the deviled eggs. Someone else requested cornbread. For the discerning, which my wife assures me I am not, I would offer this observation: all the dishes were milder or more subtle than they could have been. Whether that is to your taste depends, of course, on your taste. I have had stronger versions of these items. But those could be criticized as too rough. My doctor recently advised me I need to cut out salt or risk a heart attack. So this is my new normal. The best sign is everyone finished their plate. There was a birthday celebrant. They brought out a gigantic piece of bread pudding, which even this crowd was unable to finish off. The wine was reasonably priced -- our tradition is that a nephew covers the food, and I pick up the tab for the alcohol. The wine list is priced reasonably. Our server was great. She was efficient and friendly. The food came out fast. We lingered, though, and were there just shy of two hours, which is always a good sign people are enjoying themselves thoroughly. We learned she was headed out on a big vacation the next day. I sometimes regret I didn't tip enough (always at least 20% and in this instance about 21.5% on the net, but it is the holidays after all). read more

Back in the day, Glenn's was known for abusive hospitality but great food in good portions at reasonable prices. Yeah, Louisiana cuisine in Missouri, they did it right. Now if you go there the Cajun things Glenns was famous for are only nominally Cajun. Now that Glenns is the restaurant to the Tiger Hotel they only serve brunch on the weekends and it is a bad brunch menu. Today the service was slow to nonexistent. We had to wave down someone to seat us, ask for menus, wave for someone to take an order. We sent Jambalaya back to the kitchen. I have only sent two things back in my life and I am in my 60s. There were cold spots like it had been microwaved badly. The rice in it was under cooked so much so that it was crunchy. So we tried again with the steak salad. There was supposed to be a balsamic vinaigrette but it came out with no dressing whatsoever. I asked for some olive oil so the server brought a tiny bit for me but none for my partner who had the same replacement dish. We had to ask for salad dressing again for him. Two small salads with a small bit of steak and two glasses of wine came to around $80. It was painful, expensive, and bad. Kicker was that when the server dropped off the check he was like doing us a favor for not charging for the Jambalaya we sent back. read more

Enjoyed a half dozen fresh oysters here before a good dinner of jumbalapasta. My wife had the meatloaf. Small bar area is cozy and separated from the dining area. Service was happy and efficient. Glenn's started off good, then dwindled badly. Nice bottle of wine was priced right. My gumbo was good. But the $17 entree they tried to pass off as mushroom and kale risotto was ridiculous. It was literally a bowl of brown rice with a few pieces of Kale. I asked the waiter to take the dish back and he said it was clearly not risotto, but alas he could not take the charge off the bill. I understand Glenn's is hardly fine dining, but c'mon don't lie to me and tell me you are serving me caviar when you bring me fish sticks. If I go back, it will be just for drinks. read more

While misleading imaging Glenn's Cafe not as an American diner, but a creole/American bistro. Cool and funky with a touch of Louisiana/New Orleans decor and flavors. Music is jazz/old school and fits with the atmosphere. The flavors: delicate and great! Not salty, but fresh and relying on the quality of the ingredients. We shared the popcorn crawfish appetizer: awesome lightly fried in delicate batter with a flavorful and cool dipping sauce. The Mac and cheese is literally a white cheddar cheese sauce (from real cheddar) and actual rigatoni pasta! Fabulous and rich. Enjoyed a cocktail and late lunch here very much. read more

Had dinner with a friend and we both got the burgers for dinner. It came with two sides which I chose fries and the corn bread and she chose Mac & cheese and cornbread. Out waitress was super attentive especially to the fact that our burgers were taking a while and took the courtesy to explain to us that since they were so thick they took a while. The service was really ready. We didn't need to ask for much and she was always nearby with water if needed. Overall our meal was really good. I did however order my burger medium however it was quite chewy as if it was well done. It also felt a little tasteless like there was no seasoning on the meat. I like the ambience at Glenn's. The open feel with the natural wood is very pleasant. Our service was very friendly if a little bit slow. The coffee is better than the average diner, but definitely short of amazing. I got the breakfast biscuit. The biscuit itself was very light and tender and the sausage was good. The breakfast potatoes aren't very good, in my opinion. They're definitely from the freezer and are pretty dry and very uninspired. My husband got a side of creamy grits and they were super garlicky, which made it hard to taste anything else. All in all it's a solid, average breakfast joint. I'll shop around for other places next time I'm in town, but I'll go back if nothing else looks more appealing. read more

Glenn's Cafe is rather underrated as far as the Columbia Brunch scene goes. Most people tend to overlook it as being too expensive or too touristy since it is located in the Tiger Hotel. The decor on the inside is stunning, very upscale and classy as it's adorned with velvet curtains and chandeliers. It's also very fun to sit in their outside seating once the weather is warm. The brunch was nice but not nearly as nice as the decor. The sandwiches we had were average but were not worth trying again. The best part about this place is that there is never a wait so when the other brunch places in CoMo leave you with an hour wait, Glenn's Cafe is a great option if you're looking to eat right away. read more

Don't be fooled by the logo for Glenn's Cafe. Although I expected a dinner from the awesome old school hanging sign outside, I was pleasantly surprised to walk into a dark wood soaked space with glittering chandeliers. The entrance opens up to a lovely space with 2 full walls of windows and industrial shelving to break up the space. Even though we went for a weekend lunch it still seemed cozy in the day (and the booths made it feel more private). Glenn's says it serves up Cajun, Creole, and American food so we got the tenderloin and jambalaya. I have to admit that even though the cut fries were totally yummy, I wouldn't order the tenderloin again. It was a little too meaty and the iceberg lettuce didn't add anything exciting to the meal. The jambalaya on the other hand was delicious. Its presentation was beautiful (I like that it was on a plate instead of a bowl) and the spice gave just enough punch to warrant a sip of water after. I would definitely go back and try their cocktail menu for dinner and try a different Cajun dish. read more

I've lived in CoMo for 2 years and may have found my favorite food. It's a New Orleans/Southern inspired menu. The fried catfish was perfect. The bourbon mashed sweet potatoes were sooo good. As a starter, we ate the fried pickles and deviled eggs. Both were devoured by our group. The pickles were a bit too salty but otherwise yummy. Everyone else at my table agreed that this restaurant gets 5 stars in taste. Only gave 4 stars overall because I thought the food could have come out quicker with the restaurant being full. read more

Went to Glenn's Cafe today on a whim. Saw the sign that said oysters and was sold! Sat at the patio that was nicely shaded and cutely decorated. When we sat down the hostess said they were still serving brunch (Sunday at 3). We weren't really thrilled with that because we were looking for either lunch or dinner, but we were willing to make it work. However, our waitress saw our concern, and took it upon herself to check with the cook staff. They were willing to start dinner for us! We had complimentary champagne, and I had the Fancy Pants drink which was THE BOMB! The appetizer, shrimp romalade, and all the entrees were fantastic (blackened red fish, fried chicken, and pork chop) and our waitress was amazing! I didn't get my oysters this time, but I will be back for them and many other dishes I want to try in the future. Love this place! read more

Came here for Sunday Brunch and it is super busy! The food is pretty good quality but a bit lacking in variety and on the higher end of price. The environment is nice but can get pretty loud. The mimosas were not good at all. They used fresh squeezed orange juice which is great but they left all the pulp. So with the champagne the pulp floated to the top like a foamy sponge. This was an ok restaurant. Plan on making a reservation beforehand. read more

I love Glenn's! If you're looking for a breakfast/brunch spot, this the one. It has a history of being present in Columbia, dating back 90 years at this point. They have a fabulous brunch menu that just tastes like it still meets the standards of good quality cooking they set back in the 1920s when it first opened (I think). It's a cute little space attached to the gorgeous Tiger Hotel. During brunch you can get a carafe of mimosas for $20 which I think is the bees knees. I haven't been for a meal outside of brunch, but honestly this spot is just straight up adorable and delicious. It's a great spot to meet up with friends or treat family for a special occasion. read more

Glenn's Cafe is a great breakfast location especially for being (kind of) a hotel restaurant. Although, I think they're locally owned so that's why Glenn's has a little more swag. You can get to it without entering the hotel or you can cruise on down via the lobby. The inside is pretty chic for little old CoMo. With pipe shelving and vintage lighting, it makes for a fun atmosphere. But what really matters? The food. I ultimately wish they had more healthy breakfast options beyond "yogurt" or "quiche" but that's often the problem in mid-Missouri. The important thing is what they did have was tasty. I went with the waffle sandwich and boy was I happy. Sausage, eggs and waffle with home fries and syrup on the side. The sausage is what really made this dish shine. It was tender and hearty. While I wanted something lighter, I was pretty happy with the results. I'd recommend checking this place out. read more
