The first women to vote in NY State did so about 1/4 mile from the distillery. Talk about historical. The food, pizza, appetizers, all very good and like nothing anyone else is doing. Delicious! My friend was the "beer" guy. . He got a IPA that was marvelous. I have to admit I'm becoming ever so loyal to the smaller "labor of love" breweries. The owners are in the brewery and you can tell the pride they have in the brewery. The location is great. It's in an old Endicott Johnson firehouse. The bar is wood from the floor of the defunct Brandywine Bowl. First time I ever drank off a bowling lane. The set up was intimate with about 4-5 wrought iron barstools and several tables and 2 leather chairs. The beers were all good and we were so happy we came back the following night. Met some great people at the bar and felt like we were among old friends. They don't serve food but you can BYOF (bring your own food). Interesting place that will just keep getting better over time. Kudos to Jason and Kristen (da owners).

The day we turned the corner from Emma onto Main to discover the aftermath of the West Side Beer…read moreDepot fire could've been categorized as one of my life's defining moments. I felt confused, abandoned, and denied. I saw a celebratory summer filled with all the craft beer and cider my little heart desired (sometimes in slow-mo), and all within walking distance too. Instead it included a one-hour round trip bus ride - with a transfer and not including the return-trip wait time - or a one-hour round trip walk to the other Beer Depot, or tolerating, with a stiff upper lip, the beer selection at our local Price Chopper; and this lasted through early December. We'd been making regular trips to Lane's next door since the fire (Great place by the way! Their staff is professional, in the know about where things are in the store, and happy to point out a good deal whether you ask or not), So it goes without saying we were hopeful when we started seeing signs of reconstruction in the West Side Beer Depot's empty space. When we learned that they'd officially re-opened, I felt like someone had lifted me in the air and twirled me around. It's not an emporium, but the selection is varied enough to never bore you (like Ithaca Coffee Company's), and I'm not just talking about the different breweries and cideries you'll see on the shelves. This is the type of place that'll stock a wider range of products for a given company; so instead of having the choice of two or three products for X brewery/cidery, you'll see, like, four or five products from certain companies. They bring in seasonal and limited edition products too. And they're willing to make space on their shelves for new products like this in-state black current cider we stumbled upon last week. Last but not least, they small talk about their products in a genuine way as if they've tried them, which I appreciate. And they have mainstream beer and premade stuff in a can and all that...but most of them are stocked away from the real deal in another part of the store...where they belong. Appropriate. (They need a separate cash register over there. J/K!) So if you like learning about craft beer and cider, this is definitely an option. If I had a car I'd patronize this business just like the other customers I see pull up to give support to these guys. Thanks for staying in the game, West Side Beer Depot!
