    Dragonberry wine slushie
    Emily M.

This is a wonderful hidden gem in the Rome area. We stopped in to try a slushie and bring a bottle of wine to our cottage were staying in for the weekend. We found out when we got there that they also have a decent food menu! Had some delicious brisket sandwiches on pretzel rolls with fries. We plan to stop in again while we're up here to enjoy a wine flight (and maybe some apps)

Who carries cash?. We had a few bucks between us so we left to go to an ATM down the road. Turned out half the people outside and in the band area didn't have wrist bands. People who arrived and went right from the parking lot to the tables outside didn't "need" to pay the cover.

We were offered the Welcome tasting of Riesling which was very good and then we each had a flight-I had the dry flight with chocolate (each one was fantastic) and my husband had a sweeter flight and charcuterie board for us to share. The prices were very reasonable and the quality was excellent. We chose to stay inside the tasting room because it was hot outside, but the outside area is very spacious and there is plenty of room to move about and enjoy the time there. We ended up bringing six bottles home, and I can't decide which I like more-the cute labels or delicious wine itself. Customer service is so very important, and we were quite happy with how welcome we were made to feel. Hope to be back next summer!

The guy who helped us with our tasting was very well educated on the wines and very friendly. The timing wasn't ideal, and at first, the staff member at the counter seemed hesitant to offer a tasting, expressing concern that we might not have enough time to fully enjoy the experience. Understandably, with just 20 minutes left, they didn't want to rush through what should be a relaxed, immersive tasting. However, after we reassured her that we'd be happy to share a tasting and keep things brief, her demeanor quickly shifted. She transitioned from cautious to warm, professional, and incredibly accommodating, making us feel truly welcomed despite the late hour. In moments like this, it's always great to see how much the right attitude and hospitality can enhance a wine tasting experience. The Tasting Experience We sampled five different wines, each offering something unique. Even though we were moving quickly through the tasting, we still took time to appreciate the flavors and characteristics of each pour. Ithaca Red - A Standout Favorite One wine that immediately stood out was the Ithaca Red, a dry red with bright fruit-forward notes of raspberry and strawberry jam, balanced by a medium body and a lingering spicy finish. It struck that perfect balance between vibrant acidity and smooth tannins, making it an incredibly enjoyable, easy-drinking red. It was so good that we didn't hesitate to grab two bottles to take home, ensuring we could enjoy it again later. Lemberger - A Dark, Spiced Delight Another highlight was the Lemberger, a varietal that often flies under the radar but consistently impresses me. This one had deep, rich dark fruit flavors that reminded me of ripe blackberries and plums, complemented by a lightly spiced finish. It was well-structured yet approachable, a perfect choice for those who love medium-bodied reds with a little complexity. Though those two stood out the most, every wine we sampled was well-crafted, balanced, and a true reflection of the region. A Fun Bills vs. Steelers Moment In addition to the great wine, we had an unexpected and fun football-related conversation with one of the winery's owners, who happens to be a die-hard Buffalo Bills fan. As soon as he spotted my Steelers jacket, the conversation naturally steered toward football--a classic AFC rivalry moment. We ended up chatting about the infamous Bills vs. Chiefs game (yes, that controversial first down call!), and we found some rare common ground--both agreeing that Buffalo did, in fact, get that first down. It was a fun, lighthearted exchange that added another layer of personality to the visit. Moments like this remind me why I love visiting small, locally-owned wineries--you're not just drinking wine, you're connecting with the people behind it. A Winery Worth Revisiting Despite the short timeframe, Six Mile Cellars left a lasting impression. From the quality of the wines to the friendly, engaging atmosphere, it was a great way to wrap up a full day of exploring wineries and breweries. I'd love to return with more time to spare, perhaps on a sunny afternoon when I can relax on the property, enjoy a glass of wine, and soak in the surroundings without worrying about the clock. This visit may have been brief, but it certainly won't be my last. If you're in the area and appreciate well-crafted wines, welcoming hospitality, and a little football banter, Six Mile Cellars is absolutely worth a stop. A perfect way to end an already fantastic day.

But, it's not just for picking apples, although they have the biggest variety of apples anywhere. The Fuji apples are my favorite to add to pies, so I'm glad they have them! The wine samplings are the best. Their Desert Blossom wine is their driest, and the one I buy the most, but the Orchard Spice wine served hot or cold is amazing. They also have a mead beer and a cider ale that is high in alcohol by volume and tastes amazing! And, of course, their apple cider is better than anyone else's. I won't buy it anywhere else. You can purchase some hot cider, and on a cold fall day, it gives you a warm fuzzy feeling. I've made several gift baskets from their store. I start with wine, then add a wine cover, apple cinnamon jelly, apple butter and beautifully scented apple soy candles. You'll meet all the family members and probably have a favorite before you leave, unfortunately, I didn't bother to ask for any names....Doh!! A must go to spot!

We did not have a reservation, but easily found ourselves a spot at the bar. It was a pretty rainy and crummy day, but even though a few other couples had the same idea as us to hit a winery to avoid the rain, we did not feel crowded in the space at all. The winery is certainly one of the most well decorated spots we visited. They really lean into the barnstormer and plane vibes, with appropriate decor in every facet of the interior. It was very tastefully done and gave the winery a certain fun and unique vibe. We were seated at the bar for our tasting. The bar was quite large, holding a number of different couples but giving us all adequate space to spread out, have a few glasses in front of us, and not cloud the others' conversations. You could chose from a few different preselected tastings, and I opted for a mixed red and white tasting while my husband opted for the all red tasting. My husband enjoyed all of his, particularly liking the merlot. I enjoyed the whites in my tasting more than the red (I had a weird after taste from one of them which tainted the red experience for me), favoring the chardonnay of all things (I am not a chard gal). We appreciated how our server engaged with us, telling us a bit about each wine but also navigating hte entire bar without lingering too long in one place. She answered our many questions about the wine, being knowledgable but also approachable. We had a great time and enjoyed our wines. Barnstormer was a great rec from our various servers etc while in the Finger Lakes - while the wines themselves may not be at my top, the vibe and service did stand out. That being said, we did take a bottle home with us, so I'm looking forward to enjoying that on a special occasion!
