No way to make the room dark or open the windows. Bed is horribly uncomfortable. Not enough power outlets. Showers suck, you have to make out with the wall to get under the spray. I did not enjoy it but it was bearable. A good place if you're looking to get laid, save money, or what to share with some very close friends. The beds were awful, and having no in-room air con puts this on the no list for me, but others may find it perfectly suitable.

Men & Women bathrooms, along with laundry room, on each floor. A bit noisy, with doors closing loudly and the window from outside (as it really is super central Sydney), so maybe some updated noise cancelling in those areas. They do at least offer free ear plugs as requested. Attached bar for dinner and drinks / fun, and cafe for breakfast / lunch. They sell the basics if you forget - locks, adaptors, etc so that is a perk! Vending machines downstairs just in case. I never felt dirty anywhere. Friendly front desk and a few of the items listed on website and brochure they don't have currently but they do offer some cool free activities - yay city guide walking tour! Pretty fairly priced for location / accommodation. I spent about $150 USD for the 4 nights (with a breakfast voucher included - hot drink & a toastie). I would've spent that on 1 night in a hotel. You give up a little privacy and you save some money. I'd stay here again.

Loved it! The room was comparable to a motel room, but in the centre of Sydney CBD and well priced!…read more The room had two beds, a TV with DVD (better than a lot of motels!), a fridge and closet. Pretty clean too. Shared bathrooms, of course, it is a back packers, but really cool place. Bathrooms were ok. I did have to change showers because one shower refused to give me any hot water, but the next one was fine. You can go up on the roof and have a barbeque, and get the big city Spiderman feeling, or go out onto the street into the Big Smoke and be surrounded by shops and cinemas and the like. Event Cinemas across the road had a premier the night I was there, and I'm pretty sure Hugh Jackman was in attendance. Staff were cool too, and the room was as dark and sealed off as a bats cave, so I was cut off from the world. Good for hangovers. If you want cheaper than a motel room, and most of you will, as it's a back packers, then you can share with others for a better price - I paid extra to get a room with only two beds. The mystery was that there were signs in my room saying no drinking, which left me asking, why did I come? It's a back packers!! But then, maybe all back packers have those signs as a precaution, and we don't necessarily have to follow it.

Free breakfast was simple and the eating and tv spaces were spacious and pretty nice. Bathrooms and showers were individual, so it's nice not to have a dorm style bathroom and they were typically clean. As a female, I would maybe stay in a female dorm next time to try to help with the smell of the room, but other than that, it was a nice stay!

Big Hostel…read moreis an example of a spot where you can come and crash while still getting the full Sydney experience on a relative budget. The hostel stands solid compared to the competition. It's located in a very good location next to train stations and (30 min) walking distance to a lot of the attractions in the northern part of Sydney. The staff are extremely friendly and offer up some great advice on where to go and the best method of getting there. There is an open kitchen and lounge area with wifi where you can cook up a meal and meet other travelers around town. The dorms themselves are a bit aged, but they get the job done. I opted to stay in an 8-person dorm which looked like they had some longer-term guests hanging around. Shared bathrooms were okay too- make sure you bring your own towel and toiletries because this is a no frills hostel. Overall, good place to stay, but don't expect too much else. They do offer a A$15 shuttle to the airport at whatever time you want, so take advantage as it'll end up being more expensive if you take the train or taxi yourself.

You're right next to Chinatown and they have a lot of places that are open late when you get the munchies. They have an open kitchen and a big ass fridge if you want to get some groceries. The lounge area has some comfortable couches although maybe they can get new one because some are getting worn down. There's two large cafeteria style tables to eat on. The rooms is what you generally get at hostel so no complaints there. They have a cute little roof top lounge area which is actually pretty relaxing at night time. The staff was wonderful, kind and really helpful. Thanks for the free parking tip! Faith, if you're reading this your smile was heaven

They have a cute patio area on which people hang out and socialize, and on Friday night they had a bbq which was awesome (free burgers). Good vibes all around. At 10pm the party moves indoors to the secluded kitchen area which is really great for people who wanted to go to bed and not be disturbed. They have a good system going. The beds were very comfortable. Nice blankets, comfortable pillows, and a perfect mattress. I had a better night's sleep than I do in my own bed :/ .They offer a decent free breakfast every day from 7:30am-9:30am. After I left Sydney, I realized that I'd forgotten something really important in my room, and Steve helped me tremendously. He has a great attitude and great zeal. He put in the effort to personally mail me my item and was just overall very helpful. I sincerely appreciated his efforts. (Thanks, Steve!!) A+ experience all around. Definitely staying at ChiliBlue next time I'm in town. Cheers!

Honestly, we were both a little nervous at first since this was our first experience staying in a hostel but any fears were immediately put to rest upon check-in here. From the moment you step inside you can feel the sense of family here. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming! It was a great relief to us. We chose the 10-bed room and were completely satisfied. Of course this is a hostel so the accommodations were very basic but the bed was comfortable, bathroom was clean enough, and everyone was friendly. No issues with bad roommates here! Free Wi-Fi is a perk worth mentioning, though the use was cut-short at times due to their contract for a limited amount of data use daily. One of the main reasons we chose this hostel was the location. Potts Point is a fantastic neighborhood filled with open cafes, shops, and business people during the day while at night the neighborhood turned into more of an edgy bar district. Lots of fun within a few blocks of the hostel but walking into the more central part of Sydney wasn't bad either. My brother and I walked everywhere and I think it was the best way to take-in everything there is to experience in Sydney. Choose the Blue Parrot and you won't be disappointed!

From here you can walk to the City Center, Botanic Gardens, the Opera House, Harbour Bridge and all of Sydney's attractions. Being a small hostel we offer personal service where you can easily meet other travellers, especially if you're travelling solo. Ideal for female travellers since it is safe, secure and clean. Our guests frequently tell us they don't want to leave because of our 'friendly and homely atmosphere...almost like you're staying at a friend's house'.
