These are the worst eggs I've ever had. Two other people in my family agree. The egg yolks are almost clear certainly not bright orange which a good egg should have. Another thing every 3rd egg cracks the yolk when putting in the pan or in a bowl or ??? Nothing works. The worst most disgusting part by far is these eggs are watery. I have never seen anything like it. Never buying these eggs again; in fact I'm going to return them. I wouldn't feed these to my dogs there's something clearly wrong. read more

Regardless of the titles and certifications, it's easy to tell how the chickens live by simply LOOKING at and TASTING the eggs. The Glaum eggs I purchased have light yellow yolks that break immediately when dropped in a bowl or pan. They must be better than eggs that are not labeled organic and free range, but... Eggs I buy from a farm where the hens are really in a pasture all day, enjoying sunlight and eating grubs, worms, and bugs have deep golden yolks that stand up and are hard to break. They taste rich. This simple test makes it immediately obvious how healthy and happy the birds really are. You will rarely find eggs like this at the grocery store--even if they are "organic", "free range", and "humanely raised". Almost every brand of eggs at Whole Foods, for example, is some version of the Glaum story, including Whole Foods new in-house brand, Vital Eggs. They are all from large farms and when the operations get to that size, obviously the birds conditions are compromised. When Whole Foods does carry eggs that are really high quality and local, the people who know line up on delivery day and they sell out: Shelly's Pasture Raised Eggs at the Walnut Creek, CA store and Soul Food Eggs at the Lafayette store, as two examples. If you are looking for the real deal, it's usually going to require work. You have to research and then encourage your grocery store to carry the eggs (or whatever other product) you find. read more

The concept and execution of Glaum Egg Ranch's 24 hour egg vending machine is part quirky California, part old-fashioned showmanship, and part delightful inventiveness. You put $3.00 U.S. dollars into the vending machine and get a flat of 24 fresh eggs in return and are treated to a really cute surprise. Two separate families arrived during the time that we visited the Glaum Egg Ranch to purchase eggs. The first was a Mexican American family in a pick up truck. The father slipped his money in, repeating a few times with the last limp dollar bill that the machine refused several times until it finally went through, and lo and behold, a flat of eggs appeared in the wide slot below, AND a small curtain in a window to the left of the vending machine opened to reveal a wacky scene accompanied by music that could make you want to jig. The occupants of the lively diorama were dressed in summery Fourth of July glitter and hats. The little girl in the family, watching with her fingers and face pressed up against the window, just flipped out. Her giggles were echoed by the chuckling from the adults who were waiting in the car-- laughing maybe more at the girl's delight than the animated entertainment. The family drove off with two separate flats of eggs. Next arrived a white-haired, pale, elderly couple in their vintage Buick. The man got out, nodded to us, and proceeded to purchase his eggs. The curtain went up again and the music started over-- the man turned to look at his wife in the passenger side of the car, who had stuck her head out the window to watch. The wide, red lipstick smile in her pale, papery skin was remarkable. It's apparently fun to buy eggs at this place at any age. Appropriately, a cat snoozed nearby on a counter at the closed receiving window, under a sign that said "Fresh Eggs Here." As I took photographs of the egg vending and entertainment in progress, I felt transported into the myth of a happy, bright-future America, where hard work, cleverness, and optimism will get you all the eggs you can count before they're hatched. Thanks to the owners at the Adobe on Green in Santa Cruz for tipping us off to this place. As they noted, this stop is probably best after dark so you can really get the full effect of the glow and lights from the show in the window. read more

I like Glaum's as a company, however I don't see the point in going to the farm to buy the eggs. I went thinking that I'd get a better price than in stores, because of the elimination of a middle man, and buying a bulk, but I calculated it, and I paid the exact same price per egg. Kind of weird. This is simply a great experience with delicious eggs. Bring 3 crisp one dollar bills and get a great (if corny) show and two dozen fresh eggs (good for your health AND easy on the wallet). My kids love it. Be warned, it's not a tour, just a chance to catch an authentic American experience (dancing, decorated, mechanical chickens). I read some reviews that seem to suggest that Glaum Egg Ranch isn't really "humane" but I disagree vehemently. I think it's a great local business. Huge, fresh eggs, wonderfully corny Chicken Show...what's not to love?!

What's not to like about being able to get fresh eggs from the source at a bargain price and if you use the vending machine you get the free chicken show when the window goes up and the mechanical chicks dance to the music! Kids love it and adults love it. The chicks are dressed depending on the season or holiday. If you eat eggs on a regular basis this is the place to get them if it's not too far for you to go. read more

We love coming and using the fun egg vending machine!! We normally come on Sundays but for some reason last Sunday the gate was closed:( I checked the website and it said that the vending machine is open 7 days a week so not sure why it was closed. On that note I won't be coming on Sundays anymore. read more

This is a local, family-owned, chicken factory. Type their address into Google maps (3100 Valencia Road, Aptos, 95003) and view the gigantic warehouse the chickens are kept in. CORRECTION: I have been told this is their processing center. GLAUM RANCH QUESTION #1: can you please tell me the addresses of all your locations and specify which have chickens on site? I was interested to read from another post that they de-beak. CORRECTION: I have learned that they are "Humane Certified" which allows beak-trimming, not de-beaking. Beak-trimming is not as bad as de-beaking, but it is still repulsive. The Humane Certified folks are rather clear that beak-trimming is fine with them to avoid the chickens attacking eachother. See page 23: http://www.certifiedhumane.org/uploads/pdf/Standards/English/Std09.Layers.2J.pdf. (It's like declawing humans if you have 100 of them living in a 1000 square foot apartment so they won't kill eachother. Give them more room and they won't attack eachother. Owners of chickens who have enough room don't trim beaks; those who cram too many of them in too small of a space must trim beaks). Just don't pretend you MUST trim beaks when you could really just stop cramming them in such a small space. GLAUM RANCH QUESTION #2: Can you tell me what percentage of your chickens have 100% of their beaks unaltered in any way? If you can tell me 99% or more, I will rescind my comment. I have learned that "cage free," "free range," and "Humane Certified" are mere pastoral prose. They can still have 4,000 chickens in a hot building (but no cage), one 18-inch square per chicken (humane certified seems to think this is adequate; imagine humans living together with a similar proportion of space, maybe 4 square feet per person), with one 10-foot dirt run for 4,000 birds (free range requirements seem to think such a small run has meaning), trim the beak, dump baby boy chicks in a bag to suffocate, and there's no requirement for how frequently they remove the dead birds. MORE QUESTIONS FOR GLAUM RANCH: QUESTION #3: Can you please tell me, for each of your address locations, how many chickens are in each of your buildings and how much floor/shelf/and outdoor space per building and approximately how many chickens you have in each building? (for example, address XYZ has 3 buildings of of 5000 square feet of floor, 2000 square feet of shelf, and 1000 square feet of outdoor space, and 5000 chickens each). QUESTION #4: Do you kill the boy chicks? If so, how? QUESTION #5: How many dead chickens do you remove per day from each building they are in and how regularly do you remove them (for example, once a week or just whenever you find them). ......since all of my emails to you have gone unanswered, I now challenge you to give me CLEAR and UNAMBIGUOUS answers to ALL of my questions through yelp. I am not interested in extremely vague answers; I have requested specifics. You can get eggs that are raised under humane conditions from Full Circle Farm in Sunnyvale (http://www.fullcirclesunnyvale.org/) and Hidden Villa in Los Altos (http://www.hiddenvilla.org/), though you have to arrive early at the markets where they sell to get any. Sunnyvale Farmer's Market sells Surfside Chicken eggs and chicken meat too (http://www.surfsidechickens.com/) Worth the trip if you want to eat eggs and have a clear conscience. These eggs lose their shell color when boiled-- I mean it literally rubs off. Eggs don't do that. Are the shells dyed?

Great product at a great price. I have been buying my eggs from the vending machine at Glaum for a couple of months now and have been more than pleased with the quality and freshness of the eggs. The posts above claim you get 24 eggs, maybe at the time of their posting you did. As of 5/16/2013 your 3 bucks gets you 22 large white eggs. Last week I didn't have time to get out to Glaum and spent $2.19 (regular price) for 1 dozen of the cheapest (store brand) large white eggs. This equates to 18.25 cents per egg. Compare that to the 22 eggs you get from the vending machine for $3.00 it comes out to be 13.63 cents per eggs. A savings of over 5 cents per egg and that is not even taking into consideration that the store brand eggs regularly produced eggs with no claims of Cage-Free or Organic. Reading through the above posts I noted several that gave 1 star. I'm sure they would have given them zero stars if they could as the post made very little or NO mention of the product but were obviously PETA types who only made mention that they did not agree with Glaum's hubandry practices. Now I'm not a die hard Organic buyer but I do try to buy organic if the price is not prohibitive and when I found out that I can buy eggs that meet a certain standard of being "Organic" or Humane" or whatever cheaper than regular commercially produced eggs I figured it was a no brainer. I took a trip out there today and it was my first time there when the store was open and was immediately greeted by a pleasant employee. The store carries other sizes of the white eggs and brown eggs as well. After a brief conversation about any taste or texture difference between white and brown eggs I popped my $3.00 into the machine, watched the chicken show and went home a happy guy. read more

What a great place to get eggs, which is what I do practically every other week for the last twelve years. It's a nice short drive from Capitola and the service is tops. If I don't make it during business hours, there's always the singing chicken vending. I admit, I get my eggs and don't stay for the show. (twelve years now) but many people do. Kids love it. Today, I had the chance to sneak a peek inside the building where pallets of eggs ready for the vending machine. That was one clean building! Very impressive. When I make it there on Monday's, Cecila is ,for the most part, the one working. She's always been nice to me and all customer's that are sometimes in line in front of me. She's got this nice attitude, straight in the eye look and knows what she's doing. Hauling out dollies of eggs for some customers to even going somewhere in back to get more eggs. She's always on the go with that professional customer service that a business owner as myself looks for in other businesses. Thank you Cecilia and Glaum for being there for us! I drove a distance specifically for these eggs and had high hopes looking forward to the pack filled flavor of an orange yolk produced by free-range organic chicken. The eggs are priced by size and I purchases a dozen of the jumbo size. When i got home, I was disappointed that one row was jumbo size and the other row was regular size (yes, there is a noticeable difference...it could have been an honest mistake by the older brunette woman who pack them for me, or maybe it wasn't). I was still looking forward to the flavor, but was again disappointed. The yolk was just the opposite of the orange yolk that I've become accustomed to with other free-range organic eggs. These yolks had the yellow and watery consistency of any store-bought, mass produced eggs. Unfortunately, I've had better organic free range eggs that were store bought. Next time, I'll save myself the distance and extra money and stick to the other brand that are free-range organic eggs sold in stores closer to home. read more
