First, two warnings, and yes I did give it five stars: while clearly stated on the website, the store is in the basement so you have to walk down a flight of stairs and there's no elevator and I'd be careful about bringing younger children here simply because you are using with cut glass. Now that that's out of the way, you'll use precut glass from a huge selection of colors, sizes and textures on a glass bases to make designs that are fused in a kiln. The many options for bases include an ashtray, menorah, picture frame, plates or larger tray. Other more advanced options include weaving colors together and wind charms. Each station has a glass cutter and pliers so you can shape the precut glass. Either goggles or just wearing you're glasses is required. Just like there's a saying about ice skating that no matter what, ice is slippery, glass is sharp and can cut although I saw no wounds in my class. Using a bit of glue, you anchor down your design in the base. Then it is fused in a kiln. In addition to just creating your design, realistic or abstract, you can use templates that are provided. The very friendly and knowledgeable instructors give an overview of the process as well as help out people along the way. It's fun, creative and fairly priced. Truly a good experience. read more

I am absolutely obsessed with Glassworks. I was looking for a cute and cozy place to release some artistic energy and this was the perfect spot. They have a large variety of glass projects you can work on, ranging from inexpensive (nightlight, small picture frame) to expensive (large plates) items. I chose to make a nursery room nightlight for my first ever project. The staff were extremely helpful in showing the Glassworks ropes and helped me print and execute my design with helpful hints and tips. Something different besides a paint and sip, color me mine, or wood work! I randomly walked past this place and made a same day appointment for 2 people. The workers are very sweet and explain things well and give good ideas. I would say your first time in you may not be the most creative because you're trying to understand how this all works. After doing one and also seeing other creations on Yelp, I could envision another project. I'm not sure if this would be great for small kiddos. It's hard to cut the glass sometimes and little shards kind of fly everywhere. You do get eye shields, but it can get dicey. The ambience was great; there was a quiet atmosphere with music playing in the background. The staff were super nice and helpful - assisting my mother and I with glass cutting, finding supplies, and general glass studio paraphernalia. I made a crow on a circular piece of glass, while my mother made a plant shelf on a rectangular piece of glass that actually ended up getting Project of The Month! I couldn't recommend Glassworks more, if your looking for something fun and amazing to do don't even ration it just check it out. The staff is super helpful and friendly. The studio is so nice and a great atmosphere and most of all it was a great time. We took my mom for her 70th birthday to have a special day with her since we have had a very hard last few years and this was like a breath of fresh air coming here. It was such a different experience and something so new and so fun for us. We will be going back several times! So one of thie girls wanted to do this group activity and I was looking forward to something different. When arrived I found parking on the street nearby. Jenn let me in and pointed to the space where we would be making glass art. Jenn and June were our instructors and they were great. So how it worked was we had to pick a design we wanted meaning bowl, soap dish etc. I picked a smaller cute bowl and the colors I wanted. Each item had different prices depending on size. The next step was to glue the glass pieces together so they can be heated to perfection and design. The item wouldn't be done for a week so we had to arrange a pick up. The cost for my piece was $30 plus tax. I had fun doing this project and can't wait to see the ending result. read more

I was skeptical of coming here for a friend's milestone birthday but it was so cute and fun! The staff was so friendly and informative and honest (about how you might cut yourself). The space was large with about 7-8 people per table and a complete separate space for private parties. It's BYOB which was fun addition to our festivities. There are many projects to choose from like frames, bowls, pencils and kitchenwares. The possibilities are endless to. creating your project as there are so many different types and shapes and options of glass to choose from. We all made frames which were in the $35 range I believe; prices ranged anywhere from $25-$200+). I definitely had some trepidation cutting glass but they had gloves you could request to keep your hands safe and so many already cut pieces of glass so you don't have to cut your own which was. the route I went to. It takes about a week or so for them to fire your project and you return to pick up when ready. I made a frame that I thought would be kind of bland because I didn't do any super creative designs or cuts but I LOVE what I made. the difference from the original to the kiln-fired end product is lovely! read more

I am such an arts and crafts kind of person and loved this experience. Me and three of my friends went on Wednesday when they offer an adults night only and you can BYOB so it was so much fun. You pick a piece of glass in a certain size and shape (this is what you are paying for) and then you add all these other glass pieces on top to make whatever it is you want. Prices are very reasonable considering all the different glass pieces and shapes and tools you're allowed to use. The staff was also very very friendly and super helpful for me and my party the entire night. Located below a bank a few blocks from the green, Glassworks is a pretty cool random place for a kid's event or a date. I can't speak to the kids events as I've seen it happen once; seems pretty well run in a private room though. For me it's been a good date spot; a little bit on the expensive side, but fun. If you are considering going here, I do recommend having a modicum of artistic talent - what you'll be doing is cutting and overlaying pieces of glass to make a design of some sort, so if you can't figure out how to get to that it can be very frustrating (seen it happen). If you want a recommendation, don't go for a symmetric design/pattern, aim for an abstract/cubist design or a picture/representation (a beach scene, a still life, etc). And unless you walk in knowing exactly what you want to do, don't go for the higher-end glass package - you'll be able to do what you need probably with the smaller pieces. Can be fun if you like arts and crafts - they do have a later night on Thursday which is generally just adults, can BYOB as well. read more

Once we got started with a projects we just had fun. I was a little worried about price but I was able to find multiple projects for very reasonable prices. The only down side is we had to come back another day to actually pick up our projects, but there was nothing to be done about that. Such a unique, fun, and friendly place to get your creativity on! Great for a girl's night out, date night, or with kids!

About 10-15 of us were invited for an employee outing and none of us had any idea what to expect. There were instructions prior to starting out picture frames and then we were set off to be as creative as our little hearts desired. With so much inspiration it is very easy to get overwhelmed. I would suggest maybe keeping a binder of a color wheel or simple pictures to maybe recreate to give people an easier way of figuring out their own art. They allowed us to set up an area to eat (think party room) and a separate area to work which was nice. The only reason why I did not give 5 stars is because I was disappointed that I could not take my product home immediately. The process of fusing the glass takes 20 hours so you have to come back in a few days to get your finished product. It left a feeling of unfinished business when we were all said and done so I would not recommend for children's parties or anything like that. Another suggestion: offer before and after pictures. Make it more group friendly. We felt that it was lacking a party atmosphere so maybe some music playing in the background may help. read more

We were here a few weeks ago, our first time being creative with glass and a little hesitant and scared we walked down the steps, Wednesday is walk-in adult day and if they just allow ordinary people like us to walk in and start it can't be that bad, right? We saw a cozy but well lit area in the basement with lower and higher tables and about 25 people building stacking glass pieces onto another glass slate. Many of the people had a drink next to them, oh next time: BYOB. And the room had many fun glass made decorat We were welcomed with a smile and a young lady our age greeted and welcomed us and asked us whether we had been here before. Answering negative to that didn't change her face a single bit to worry, on the contrary she became enthusiastic and explained how it all works. Examples of other people's work, the discount we would get that day and that in 2-3 hours we could make a masterpiece. And if still not comfortable they even have kits one can use. Comfortable with our decision to walk in we decided not to run away but now make that difficult decision on what to attempt to make with the glass. After we decided the employee showed us to a table and explained how to safely work, how to cut and glue the glass and how to build our own masterpiece. Very patiently and with a smile answering our questions. While building our own art, using paper examples as well as items on display we picked colors, used pieces of left over glass, new squares of glass, little glass straws, beads and so more and build our own dish set. After 2 hours we were finished and they were about to close as it was 10pm but still all the staff was patient and not rushing us. We paid for our glued glass collection that would go through 2 melting procedures before we could pick it up a week later. A week later the same smiles, friendliness and atmosphere as when we were there. A nice group of customers working like we did last week and our own glasswork was even prettier than we had hoped for. While it was an enjoyable time, my piece broke when the Glassworks staff fired it. Beware that unless you take them up on their offer to return to the studio and make another piece your refund amount is 30%less because they keep an "experience fee". I would have preferred two separate charges at the time- a set studio experience fee that is the same regardless of the price of the glass and then charge me for my piece. Their prices are not inexpensive so keeping 30% can be a fair amount of money. read more

A great experience! I went with a date and we had fun working on a project together. We were there for 2 1/2 hours but could've spent another 2 1/2 on the same project. The staff was super friendly and explained to us how to do everything and even gave us some ideas of how to decorate our project. I went back today after a week and we were so happy with how our project turned out! The only thing that I wasn't thrilled about was that we were asked to use scraps of glass that other people threw out before starting new sheets of glass. I felt that for the price we were paying we shouldn't have to sort through other people's scraps to find pieces of glass that we could use. To be perfectly fair, when we decided to ignore the request and use new sheets we weren't reprimanded but nevertheless I thought it wasn't fair that the request was even made. It's kinda like going to a hotel and being requested not to use the bed if possible. I would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a nice fun time. read more

Good concept, expensive, execution has to be better. You make the glass piece while your there, then have to go back a week later to pick it up. They only attach a hand written card with your name on it, so while they bake your piece, nothing is attached..... Its a risk whether or not you get your piece back. My family made 4 pieces, I only got 2 back. Its over a month later and they still have not found my pieces or offered me a refund yet. Still pending outcome on my pieces. read more
