I originally was brought to Dana with a Groupon, but our relationship is now in our fourth year. I've been selfish... I don't want to share her with anyone. She is an artist. I went from long to fabulous short hair. See? read more

I went to Dana for the first time earlier this month. I had a great experience. I work wonky hours and generally like to do everything without picking up a phone, so it was nice being able to request an appointment online. She was very quick to respond, texted me a question to ensure I had the right amount of time set aside. I had a little bit of a hard time finding it. I have even been to the BBQ place right next door, but never really noticed the salons right next door. It says "Salons Etc." and it seems to be set up where there is a main entrance and then stylists have their own private mini salons. Very cute. Dana was very pleasant, professional, enjoyable to be around. She did a great job with my highlights and cut. I made a follow-up appointment, and again had a great experience with requesting a time online and the appointment was confirmed in less than an hour. I did not find the being on the phone thing mentioned in a few other reviews to be an issue. But honestly, I wouldn't have a problem with it anyway. My expectation/hope when I get my hair done is to walk out with hair I'm happy with. Glancing at a phone or answering a text is irrelevant to that. She's doing everything herself, so I would think she might need to multitask a little sometimes? read more

Dana does a fantastic job! She did my wedding makeup (without previously doing any service on my hair or skin) and matched my skin tone perfectly. I did not want anything too bold or too much contouring. She gave me a fresh-faced look with a nice eye palette. My appointment was from 11-12 and the makeup looked great until I got home (2am!). Cannot recommend Dana enough! read more

I had a GREAT experience here. I went in with a groupon for cut and color and came out looking fabulous! I'm breaking up with my stylist and have been using groupon to find a new one. I won't get into details, but I got the groupon as a way to try things out here. Dana was very friendly, relaxed and full of great suggestions without being too pushy. She listened to me and commented accordingly, ultimately letting me decide. I was there about 2.5 hours for foils, haircut and dry which is pretty average for my hair. I was a little nervous about being there that long because a suite isn't very spacious. There are 3 chairs in there - a cutting chair, a shampoo chair and a waiting/dryer chair. I wasn't really sure if I should have waited inside the suite or outside until the other person left, but I went in and sat down. I was about 5 minutes early. Then that client left and it was the 2 of us for some time. She had someone else come in for a cut while I was under the dryer and they brought a friend so it was cozy, but not claustrophobic. Inside this place is a bunch of suites. Just like a doctor's building, they have a sign saying the name of the place and the suite number. Then you follow the signs to find the suite. Allow yourself extra time to navigate. read more

With so many positive reviews, I decided to visit Glam Rock studio after going to the same stylist/colorist in the city (Chicago) for 5 years to save myself the drive. I had been planning to call, then saw a Groupon for haircut and full highlights. I was excited. Upon arrival Dana, the stylist, was busy on either her smartphone or computer, I can't remember, but what I do remember is that throughout my entire visit, she was constantly on her phone emailing/texting or answering it. No exaggeration here people, literally every two-three minutes. She mentioned she is busy and needed help and was texting someone to buy her product at the store, but some professionalism, please. At some points I wondered what priority was; the hair or the phone. Even with a Groupon, her prices are premium and I expect that in the service. Onto the actual work she did. I explained how I'd like highlights on the under layers; better known as peekaboo highlights. She asked what color and I gave a few ideas and then asked, "What do you think?" The answer I received was unbelievable. "Don't ask the girl with purple hair, it's up to you." I was a bit shocked at the unhelpful and very unprofessional "consultation" I received. After we decided on color she was out of the color we selected so we opted for something close. When all was said and done, I had more like "midlayer" and "almost top layer" highlights that were not at all evenly dispersed on my head. She said if I needed anything fixed, to call as I think it was obvious I was not impressed with the final product. That being said, I would not consider going back to have her fix anything after this experience; both service and color/cut. Thankfully the highlights are quite faded a little over a month later and I plan to head back to another stylist to get a professional style by a professional-acting hairdresser. No repeat customer here. read more

Dana rules, ya'll. Seriously though...I came here with a Groupon deal for a full highlight and cut. She looked at my hair right away and started offering suggestions. As someone who is new to long and highlighted hair, she broke everything down for me and gave me a bunch of options (since I clearly had no idea what I was talking about). She was friendly about it, even though I was a complete idiot. I ended up really getting a partial highlight, since that's what I really wanted, but she uses SO many foils for it. You really, REALLY get your money's worth for a partial, just FYI. She was really fast at it too, considering how many foils she put on my head. The highlights are seriously the best I've ever had, I'm insanely impressed. I also had really damaged, plain-jane hair. It was long and one length. She offered a bunch of suggestions, and I finally just told her that I trusted her to do something hip and cool, while also keeping in mind that I work in an office and can't have a mohawk :) And voila! I have the best haircut I've had since 2009 (seriously). I was so excited leaving her small little studio, I wanted to hug her. Ladies (and gents, of course), Dana is hip and knows how to cut hair in 2013. She knows the trends and will have you looking 100% fab and trendy. Her prices are on par with what most places charge (minus high end salons). I'm sold, and I'll continue to go to her forever. read more

Dana is top-notch. I had a groupon for highlights and cut for $65 and she rocked it. She gave me the perfect color highlights for my ever-darkening "dirty dishwater" blonde hair--warm gold, but not over-processed. She listens to what you want. I'm trying to grow my hair out, so she shaped it up without taking off too much. I also saw a client before me with a most beautiful updo for prom. Do not hesitate to book with Dana. She's awesome. You may have to wait to get in as she's getting pretty darn popular! read more

I can't say enough about this place. I previously found Dana through Groupon, and just had my second trip back this weekend. Both times I got a cut with both highlights and lowlights - and my hair is the best it's ever looked! Dana is super helpful and ensures you'll leave with a flattering cut and color. I wasn't sure exactly what would look best on me (no idea at all, actually!), but Dana worked her magic and helped me choose a style that would look best. Like some of the previous Yelpers say - she gives you guidance while still letting you ultimately decide. As far as time spent in the salon, Dana works super efficiently (without feeling rushed), so you still have plenty of time left in your day afterwards. The price is super affordable too - as a recent college graduate, this was right in my price range, without compromising on quality in the slightest. I'm very happy with the end result - the cut and color look awesome, and I'm definitely making this my regular place from now on. Thank you, Dana! read more

Dana is a ball of energy with a passion for hair. I had my hair colored, highlighted and cut. The response when I walked into the house was "mom you great" which was confirmed by my mother and sisters. Dana took my basic ideas, explained what was possible and went to work. It was a positive experience. My sister has already booked her cut and highlight with Dana based on what she saw and my recommendation. read more

I went to Dana because I heard from a friend that she had a Groupon for her Salon. I needed a new colorist, so I said what the heck. I never went anywhere else for 2 years! She does a fantastic job! I've had many colors and she can make you just about any color! I've had color correction done to get from red to blonde and she did it in one appointment. We always have great conversations and I still have all my hair considering all the changes I've made. I recommend her to everyone I know for someone who does great color! I've also brought my daughter to her for blue highlights. She's awesome! read more

I used to love going to Dana but the last two times she was extremely rough with my hair and it ended up breaking off in places. It also hurt while brushing so I probably should've said something. The last time I went the blonde touch up on my roots came out awful. It was a light orangy color and didnt match the rest of my hair. She was in a hurry so I didnt take the time to really look until I got home. $70 down the drain. I ended up going to someone else to have it fixed. I won't be going back to this salon. Too bad because she used to take her time and do a great job. Updating my review- the last time I went in Dana was great. I was happy with my color and she wasn't rough. read more

I used to go to Dana for a few years. I like her and its next door to my house. I tried her on groupon and was happy with the color I got. However my color faded really fast and became orange blond. Every time I came back Dana said it was my water and there is nothing she can do. I was confused with that because I had the same water for years and never had orange hair. By the way place I go to now fixed the "orange" issue so it's NOT my water. As for service Dana is always busy, when you come for your appointment you have to wait as she is only half way to another client. She is on her phone a lot, I get that we all have bust life's and have to multitask but come on my time is also valuable and when I make appointment I want it to be about me for most part. Dana is great with purple, pink and blue in your hair. I however needed more "normal" looking hair read more

If you are looking for someone to transform the way you look, look no further than Glam Rock Hair Studio! Dana did an amazing job on my daughter highlights and cut. My daughter went in with an idea of what she wanted and walked out with a perfected version of that idea. The color is amazing and exactly what we wanted when we explained to Dana what we were hoping to accomplish with the highlights. I am planning to book my own hair cut now that I've seen what Dana can accomplish! Check out the before and after shots! read more

I went here with a Groupon for cut and color. I ended up having to pay more for the length of my hair, which I've come to expect anywhere I go. I was not at all happy with the way my bangs turned out. The color was ok, but it was the way it was applied that was terrible. She seemed to be in such a hurry and was obviously frustrated by the thickness and length of my hair. She got dye across my face and not just a little. It was a huge streak and almost got in my eye. She was slopping it on so quickly and haphazardly. I had just done a spray tan a few days before and the dye on my face took it off, leaving me with streaks on my face until the tan faded away. What's worse is she left it there and told me to go home and use makeup remover to get the dye off my face. Sure, let me drive now an hour back home with chemicals near my eye. I never went back and never will. If you have super long hair or thick hair, this girl doesn't have the patience to deal with it. Sucks for them, because I tip generously because I know my hair can be hard to deal with and believe my stylist should be well rewarded for the trouble. If you look at the other reviews that are 1 or 2 star, you see a repeat theme- she is too busy to care about what she is actually doing to your hair, does not act professionally, and is too rough with your hair. I take really good care of my hair because I like to keep it long. I do not need a stylist to try brushing my hair with a regular brush and not holding my hair at the scalp or slapping dye all over it and getting it on my face. I am also busy and dont have time to go home to wipe dye off my face. What if I needed to go out right after my apt? I will not be back. D- read more

I regularly go to see Dana every 8 weeks and I have been going to her probably for about 4 or 5 years. I get my hair highlighted blonde, and I have never had anyone come close to doing it as well as she does. She does a lot of foils and doesn't miss spots as a lot of stylists do. Her pricing is comparable to other places but the amount of time and attention to detail is well worth it. read more

My daughter and I have been customers of Dana for almost 2 years. I have wavy unruly hair. Dana makes it look fabulous all of the time, not only after I leave the salon. What a great gem this place is. Went in with a groupon because I had just moved into the area. She is so welcoming and really loves her job. I enjoyed my experienced and most importantly loved loved my haircut! Definitely going to go back for future services. Just got my DivaCut from Glam Rock and I love it. Unlike other places, the emphasis was on the cut, not on selling the product. Dana did an excellent job and my hair looks great whether I wear it the DivaCurl way or not. In addition, Dana is a wonderful artist that has a great eye for turning "OMG you call that curly hair??" to a work of art. I've also seen her work her magic on straight hair so she's got great versatility. Oh yea, and her prices are fantastic. Paula read more

I found Dana via recommendation of my hair stylist. I was looking for someone to cut my clip in extensions to make them more blendable with my natural hair. Dana, thank you, thank you, thank you for doing such a great job on my wedding day. I have been getting my hair cut, colored and styled with Dana for 3 years so it was obvious that I would use Glam Rock on my wedding day. She came to get read with us in the hotel room and styled the hair of my entire bridal party then did my hair for the wedding. All of my girls looked gorgeous and I could not have been happier with my hair. Just a few weeks ago I had dark straight hair and Dana cut, colored and styled me into the blonde curly bride I dreamed I could be. I just got home from getting my hair cut and highlighted by Dana at glam rock studios....AND I LOVE IT! Not only was she extremely friendly and out going, but she was very professional and really listened to me when it came down to the details of what i was looking for! I found her through a groupon, but she didn't treat my appointment differently because of it. ( like some hair stylist will!) I tend to be very controlling and picky about my hair...especially when im getting a hair cut from a new stylist, but again she really listened to me and gave me new ideas and great advise in MY FAVOR! She really seems to take pride in her work and doesn't focus on emptying your wallet. Not only will I be going back to her, but I recommend her to everyone! Dana is so sweet and precious. I just went in for a 10:15 an appointment today (7/5) and how wonderful it was that she came in on time after a holiday and was so warm and friendly. I have anxiety and it comes in and out over the dumbest things and even with this morning I was nervous for how one on one it was and it being a studio - weird, I know. But right off the bat she was so personal and made me feel like this wasn't our first hangout. She is so kind and understanding about my little quirks and so happy I found a stylist I'll make sure to come to again. She isn't expensive and she gets right to her work. For years I have been searching for someone to take me from brunette to blonde. I have had many unsatisfying encounters with many salons, from paying HUNDREDS of dollars just to look exactly the same as I did when I walked out! And even had my hair fall off. Then a couple of months ago, I came across Glam Rock Hair Studio Facebook page. Looking through the photos I was VERY impressed! I just HAD to give them a call. I have been going to Dana to get my hair dyed for at least 6 years now. She always takes the time to listen to exactly what I want done even when I know I can be a pain and want weird things done to it. My hair is very thick bleach blonde hair that is more than half way down my back. She has also done my hair for my wedding and did an amazing job and took her time. After reading some of these bad reviews people have left makes me really wonder what kind of people are leaving them!! I have referred several people to her and everyone has told me how great of a job she did! It makes me sad that there are bad reviews about her when that is definitely not his she works!!! I would highly recommend her to anyone! read more

I bought a groupon. Made my appointment. (great hours, and very flexible), went in and had a great time with Dana. She was extremely informative. I learned things about my hair, and hair in general. She even saved me $55 (very honest) by telling me I didn't need all over hair dye, just highlights. My hair hadn't been cut in almost 2 years, so it needed some extreme TLC. She does highlights like I've never seen. It's not the standard pattern. She uses one that made my hair look fantastic. Not like I just got highlights, more natural looking. So awesome! The cut was brilliant, and somehow she knew I needed warm highlight colors. Previously when I would get highlights (not from her), they would turn out brassy and not a natural color, but with Dana, they look fantastic. Best ever!!!. I'm definitely going back. She's easy to talk to, normally I just sit and don't talk, but it's such a personal experience it's hard not to. I'm honestly not the type of person who pays much attention to my hair, but after seeing Dana, I looked like it was my job to have awesome hair. Do yourself a favor, make an appointment and see Dana. You won't regret it. read more

This review is for color only, I don't think I've gotten any other service. Dana's awesome, her partial highlights are more like full! I've also gotten balayage done by her which I loved, she broke through my dark hair and delivered non brassy blonde. I'm over due for an appointment! read more

I bought a groupon for highlights and a haircut at Glam Rock Hair Studio. I was incredibly late for my appointment but Dana was very understanding. I absolutely love the cut I got! I usually just get blonde or caramel highlight and layers, but Dana recommended a disconnected cut and explained there is a difference between slant bangs and swoop bangs. I know nothing about hair so I was grateful for this information. Dana is very talented and I'm glad I trusted her with my hair! I've been getting so many compliments and would love to go back to her! read more

Dana did not introduce herself. She had another client when I got there that stayed more then half the time I was there. She didn't even look at my hair before she washed it. She talked about herself the entire time. She didn't ask what I did, or if I was married. Just rambled on about herself. I didn't know what I wanted since it had been a while since I had gotten it cut, so we decided lots of layers. Big mistake. I have chin length layers with really long hair now. It looks awkward. She thinned out my hair so much. It is frizzy and uneven. Worst part... There was a knot in my hair from her blow drying it, and she cut it out!!!!!!!!! She did not even try to untangle it. I went here on a groupon. Not worth the value. I would have rather paid double to look half way decent. read more
