Drive through
Joe C.

Finally got to go inside and was not disappointed. The space is very welcoming and has plenty of seating. The Dirty Harry shaken espresso is absolutely amazing. It might be my favorite shaken espresso I've ever had. I hope they keep it on the menu. I believe it is only a seasonal item at the moment. I added a shot to mine to bring it to 4 shots and cut back a little on the sweetness. It was still sweet, but not overly sweet.

Just left and the line is worth it. Maddy or Maddi helped us this morning at the drive thru and she was so sweet right away. The line and crowd would have stressed most people out but she was off the first interaction so so nice She suggested drinks and said we ordered all her favorite things being our first time. It's baristas and staff like her that make cafes regulars Dirty Harry 10/10, peanut butter 12/10. We will be back best coffee we've had in ages Jack sandwich with steak 10/10 and loaded hash browns 10/10 Smoothie also amazing, found a new regular spot. This is the one sip makes your day kinda spot.

This place is absolutely amazing!!! I got their blended banana brûlée coffee. The best coffee I have had in San Diego. So well priced too, any and everytime I get I will be getting this. I also got a spinach breakfast sandwich. AMAZING!!! The drive thru is so fast, easy, and spacious. Employees were so nice and helpful. Everything tastes fresh and delicious.

New Fave Iced Coffee: The Lemon Poppyseed Shaken Espresso If you are in Spring Valley/La Mesa area, you have to stop by and try this drink. I was able to peek the inside from their drive thru line and the seating and space looks very comfortable. The drive thru line itself is a huge plus for me when on-the-go before work/errands. Getting back to the drink, I did order this iced with Oat Milk and half sweet -- It is so delicious My coworkers were even surprised at how much they liked it because of the lemon. Me personally? I love anything with lemon in it. Well balanced, tasty, not too much... just right and strong to get you through the day!

Our second stop at Gladly Coffee and so impressed again! I had a seasonal special - Banana Chocolate Bread Latte - and it was YUM! Such a good sweet treat. We love all of the seating options inside and outside and the staff are very kind and quick to help. This place is so popular - drive thru can be a long wait - but it's totally worth it!

This is probably my 3/4th visit. Every single drink I've gotten from here never disappoints. From the banana espresso, to the chocolate shake, mochas and the cookie butter chai I had today - so good! And the service is always pleasant, so far always friendly ! The food is very good too, have no complaints. I will say the sausage in the breakfast sandwich is too sweet. But the steak Sammy's are very good! This place is definitely chill vibes! Would definitely come here again and again! (Especially love the drive thru!)

Okay people!!! Just was brought to this magical place!!! and I'm in love!! Got the pickled tots... oh my!! So good I forgot to get a picture! the place is just so cute! I could spend hours!!! Then the food menu... don't get me started. I think I'm coming back daily until I try it all!!!

I was recommended here by a friend and came on a Sunday and the drive thru line was insane. It like wrapped around. So I parked thinking I could go in but the inside was closed. Not sure if it's every Sunday or just that day. I was sad to leave and not get to try. I came back today a Friday morning and the line was just as long. I opted to go in and so glad I did. I ordered the white chocolate mocha blended cold brew with caramel drizzle and it was so good! Now I understand the long lines! They have so many good drink and food options to select from. The inside is so cute and so perfect to catch up with a friend or on work emails or just relax and enjoy a coffee. The workers were friendly and fast. I waited maybe 5 minutes for my drink. The inside was pretty busy as well. This is definitely somewhere I plan to come back to again.

I don't even know where to begin, everything we ordered was top-notch. Every single coffee and dish was amazing, and I'll definitely be coming back. The seasonal menu was incredible, and honestly, I wish I could give more than five stars. And the tater tots? Absolute fire. Highly recommend checking this place out if you're in the area, don't sleep on this place!

I was looking for a new drive-thru coffee spot and was lucky enough to find this gem pretty close to me. Not only do they have tons of delicious hot and iced drink options, but they also carry the best selection of breakfast and lunch items as well. Everything i've had here so far has been absolutely delicious and I can't help but tell everyone I know about this place. The inside dining is spacious and very modern. The service is always quick as possible and friendly. If you like bold flavors, i'd recommend the BLTA chipotle bagel sammy. Best sandwich i've ever had, hands down. I don't think you could go wrong with anything you choose though. The drive-thru/parking lot situation can be tough on a busy day, since it's tucked in a small corner right off the freeway but it's more than worth it. Don't forget to ask for a punch card to earn free drinks!

Any update on the opening date?

I don't think there is one, it's just hang on in the meantime. I'm sure they'll toss one out.

Is the inside close to being open yet? Hating the drive thru situation since someone always seems to cut me. TY ☺️

Hi! Thanks for reaching out to us about a renovation update! We're currently awaiting a 3rd round of permitting from the building dept to be approved. We appreciate your patience! This is an older building, originally a bank, that hadn't been fully…

Does anyone know when they're going to open inside? It's been like 3 years now. 😅😅😅

Thank you for the question! We're currently under renovation on the inside cafe and are Drive-Thru only, though you are welcome to sit on our patio. Final installs are currently taking place, we anticipate being able to open soon! We apologize for…

Is the indoor seating open now??? It's been years 💔

Is there currently indoor seating? I know it was drive through only for most of the pandemic

inside is still under renovation, but there is seating outside.

Is there outdoor seating?

Yes, just a few small rounders though

Do they offer gluten free bread?

Yes, we do offer gluten free bread!

Is there wifi?

Yes. Good wifi per my 16 yo daughter😜😂

I'm a little heartbroken about this because I had a 5-star review drafted up for this place that…read moreread: "Grove Grinder is the GOAT of neighborhood sandwich shops. Over the years that I've been coming here, I've been pleasantly surprised to find that the quality, portion size, and price point has kept pace with inflation and remains the best sandwich option in East County." I'm certainly not the longest-running customer of this spot, but I have been coming to Grove Grinder ever since I moved to the area four years ago. I kept coming back, wrote rave reviews in San Diego food-related social media groups and threads, bugged food influencers about them, and sent many of my friends and family their direction because I was that big of a fan. My husband and I have taken these sandwiches on roadtrips and plane rides, grabbed them in the middle of household chores, and picked them up for each other when the other is too tired or sick to cook. The reason why I'm ultimately knocking this review back and heavily questioning whether I should return has to do with a disappointing experience from my last visit with my husband that we now think was part of a larger pattern. The past couple of times we saw this person at the register, we used my name for the order. This time, though, my husband gave his name instead and the person at the register gave him some attitude about it and asked "You're *really* going with that?" I don't understand what their problem was with his name, but both the person in the front and the staff in the back refused to use it. They called out everyone else's names (and they usually call out mine when I order) and we noticed that our sandwiches were looking skimpy compared to how stacked we know they can come. My husband uses a nickname that might not be the name he was given at birth, but is a name he has used for over 20 years and might as well be his "real," name. We don't want to make assumptions, but most of the staff has always been at least a little cold towards us at best, slightly rude at worst, and even though this experience might seem relatively small to some, it's ultimately the straw that broke the camel's back. We suspect that their distaste for us might be politically motivated. We know it can't be personal because we've been nothing but polite. It sucks, but it seems to be that if they perceive you to not be "their people," your money isn't as green at their establishment, even if it spends all the same. I loved this place and felt lucky that they're close to my house, but feeling disrespected and like the staff are trying to fire us as customers is enough motivation to take our business elsewhere.

I ordered the: *Jerk Turkey Sandwich: you can choose from white, wheat, sourdough, a roll, or an onion roll for an additional $3. I went with white bread. I was expecting more of a deli-style hoagie or Subway-style sandwich, but it ended up being served on two slices of sandwich bread. It tasted good, but it honestly reminded me of something I could easily make at home. There just wasn't much of a wow factor. The sandwich came with pickle spears and your choice of macaroni salad, potato salad, or another deli side. The side portion was fairly small, a couple of bites worth, but the macaroni salad was great. My total came to nearly $15, which felt pretty expensive for a sandwich on sliced bread and a small side. While I really appreciated the friendly service and enjoyed the food, I didn't think it offered enough value for the price. Overall, it was a decent lunch, but not memorable enough to make me want to return.
