This is one of Cedar Rapids/Marion's hidden treasures! I've lived in Cedar Rapids for close to eight years and had never heard of this place until a friend of mine asked if I wanted to see Little Women with her last weekend. The seating in the theater consists of couches, love seats, big comfy chairs and some table/chair combos making it feel like you're watching the play from your living room. They also have a small concession area in the lobby where you can purchase drinks (non alcoholic, beer and wine) and snacks to enjoy while watching the show. It's community theater so you need to keep in mind that a lot of the actors are still developing their craft and with this performance in particular there were several children, but overall I really enjoyed the performances. One of the coolest things about Giving Tree though is that for every production they put on, the actors decide on a charity and they donate a portion of the proceeds to that charity--hence the name Giving Tree Theater. I will definitely be getting tickets to Peter and the Starcatcher in Feb/March. read more
