You're paying for the Ambiance only. The food isn't good at all. No seasoning. The drinks are suppose to be creative but have a funny after taste. The band is amazing and of course the restaurant is super cute with tons of places to take pics but as a restaurant they leave a lot to be desired. Beautiful atmosphere set under the trees. This would be amazing if it wasn't raining when we went haha. Food was good but small portions. Good for groups - we came here with a bachelorette party. Some of the girls were eaten alive on their ankles by what we think/hope were mosquitoes so wear pants and/or ample bug spray. I'd probably come back for a drink but pass on dinner. read more

I came here to grab dinner on Friday which is called "gypsy-disco" night and was disappointed with the ambiance. The grilled chicken I ordered was definitely not worth the price. It was very bland and definitely not up to tulum high price restaurant quality. I've had far better street food chicken kebabs. Gitano's was recommended to us by two Brits who we met on a tour in the area. They suggested going here for appetizers and it was a good suggestion. The menu is geared towards this (only two entrees available). Sine they had a 1000 minimum for using cards, we decided to order the mains as well and they were quite good. Drinks were pretty good. They forgot to charge us for our mains, so to meet the limit we got dessert, which wasn't much more than a brownie. Service was good. This place is amazing. The vibe and ambiance is great. The bartenders were very nice and friendly. We came in around 8pm and was told there was going to be a 45min wait...we got drinks at the bar...DELICIOUS. Loved the habenero drink. 15min later we were able to get seated. I ordered the chicken entree, my friends ordered the pork and steak. Everything was delicious. Service can be better...hard to get waiters attention at times and food took a long time to come out...but since it tasted fresh perhaps thats why. I recently discovered they have a pop up restraurant in nyc for a short period of time and am so excited to try it out! read more

This place came highly recommended by a friend, but I just thought it was OK. It's very dark with a neon light of the restaurant's name with a very jungly feel. Upon arriving, we were greeted by what seemed to be very American girls. At first they were very nice and told us if we came back in about 20 minutes, we could get seated at a table. So the mister, my sister and myself, left and walked around for a bit and came back. Once we got back, they told us they wouldn't be serving food anymore and that we could only get drinks at the bar. It was a total disappointment because why would you tell us to wait for 20 minutes and then come back and tell us that we couldn't eat anymore?! WHY WOULDN'T YOU HAVE TOLD US BEFOREHAND? Anyhow, we just decided to stay put and get some drinks. The bartenders were very nice and super cool. The thing about Tulum is, the people that work at these bars/restaurants are seasonal. They come from all around the world to work, as well as vacation. Everyone speaks English and they look happy doing what they do, so it's refreshing to be in a place where we are all in a way vacationing. We got a few drinks and realized some people ordering things from the kitchen and decided to ask too. Luckily we were able to order only their cold dishes, which meant a salad or some sort. Better than nothing right? We didn't get to experience the dining, but from what I saw, it was really just a big backyard with lots of benches/tables. There was one thing we didn't like very much, the scented aroma they kept going around with. It was way too strong, but they were trying to keep the bugs away. They do take credit cards, so that's a good thing! Try to save your pesos for elsewhere. read more

This place is great at night because of the atmosphere and great, chill, disco house music. However, this is actually the slowest bar this side of Tulum. If you want to buy a drink be prepared to wait 30 minutes to a WHOLE HOUR to order and then another 20 to pay. It's fucked up. We had such a long wait last Sunday that we gave up and left, and then when we came back this Tuesday we brought our own tequila in our bag and had a great time because we could finally enjoy the DJ and dance without waiting at least 20 minutes for drinks, and at least 20 minutes for the bill. The bartenders seem to be in no rush and it reflects poorly on the bar and probably their profits although they seem to be doing well enough to not have to worry about that. read more

What a fun spot! My friend made us a reservation here for the first night of our trip. The restaurant itself is super trendy and has great vibes. When we were seated we were told we had two hours at the table and then could stay at the bar as long as we liked. The food and drinks were delicious and the live music made us stay for hours. Does not deserve the money there are definitely better places in Tulum. First, they take a credit card for the reservation, don't think any other restaurants do that in Tulum. Here is our experience. The menu is really really limited, there were 3 white, 3 red wine options. And wines are absolutely overpriced when you compared with the other restaurants in Cancun/Tulum. The food selection was the same 3-4 main dishes and 3-4 starters you can select, not many options at all. The salad was good as a starter and we picked rib eye steak and it came cold, we had to send back to heat it. It was barely an average steak, we had much better ones in Cancun and Tulum. At the end, they charged our credit card like 100 USD more and when we realized they gave us cash PESOS for this. Let's be honest ambiance was good for a date, and we enjoyed the garden for sure. One of the best meals I've ever had honestly. I was on vacation with a group of friends, and we had a night on the town instead of staying at the resort. Everything from start to finish was absolutely incredible at Gitano. The ambience is so cool. All outside with couches and string lights. The drink menu is extensive with amazing mezcal drinks. We got two pitchers and both were super tasty. We then split four appetizers, all amazing. The tuna tostada was so fresh and delicious. The ceviche was incredible. Quesadillas and lettuce wraps were amazing too. I can't say enough good things about our meal. Most people got tacos for dinner and loved them. And then we got both churros and the dulce de leche for dessert and omg just yesss. After dinner, we went back to one of the bars and a different outside area to have another drink and hang out. Ok, this is a tourist trap and not a real restaurant. We are from Chicago and eat good all the time. So, we are used to high end prices and quality service. Yes, they have high end prices but with terrible service. They announce to you upon arrival that you are only allowed to sit at table for 1.5 hour. Fine, but the waiter took 15 min to greet us and then another 15 min to bring us our first round of drinks. Most people only order one cocktail with dinner at this place but we are drinkers and had to keep asking for drinks. The waiter might qualify for an airhead because he kept standing around looking into the sky instead at his customers tables. Very weird for a waiter to to do that. The ambience is beautiful and the live music was fantastic. The food was super yummy too but I won't go back to this restaurant for dinner but would go for drinks only. When we eat dinner we prefer to be in a relaxed state and not feel like we are being rushed out. Oh, and there were many empty tables. I requested to sit at another table that was empty and was denied. It stayed empty until 5 min before we left. We usually order so much food that we require a big table. We felt so rushed that we didn't have our normal glutinous style dinner and drinks but a quickie meal that we could barely finish before bus boys swipe plates off table. We were very excited to come and had reservations for our group a couple weeks in advance. The service was honestly some of the worst I've ever had in my life. The venue is beautiful, and incredibly unique. But the servers and staff seem to not care. We dined at Rosa Negra across the street the night before and had incredible service so this wasn't expected at all. It took 30 minutes to get drink orders in, and another 20 to get those drinks. This was before we even had a chance to order food! I've never had to get up to complain at a restaurant and we had to get up 6 separate times to complain to the hostess/staff. In the end after waiting 45 minutes for what we thought would be a quick desert we ended up canceling the order desperate to leave. We also got eaten up by mosquitoes which hasn't happened at any of the other places we've been. Avoid this restaurant, the management and staff do not care and there are far better places to spend your money. Tulum is amazing, and every other location we've been has been incredible. This place is not worth the stress or time and everything we had aside from the cocktails was very subpar. read more

The aesthetic of Gitano is awesome- there is lots of vegetation that separates areas of the restaurant (which is honestly huge) from others which gives it a romantic and intimate feel. The staff was ok, kind of seemed like our guy ignored us bc we didn't order as much as some restauranteurs, but was also never pushy. We didn't feel rushed out like some places, they let us enjoy our time there which was great. I started with a spicy margarita and my partner got a tequila mule which were both pretty good. For our main course we actually got two small plates- shrimp tacos and the chorizo queso fundido. Both were amazing- some of the best things we ate in Tulum plus it was one of the only nicer restaurants with shrimp tacos and queso fundido at night for dinner (most restaurants only serve tacos at lunch & large fish and steak plates for dinner). Very cute ambiance and good food! I recommend the ceviche and tostados. Don't get wine here. Cocktails are refreshing but are light pours. One star taken off for bad communication. Our server was very nice but didn't pay attention. She first told us that tostados were out- so my group replaced them with other side orders. To our surprise, tostados plus new orders were all served, minus one of the ceviches. We let our server know and she was embarrassed about it and let us know tostados would be taken off our bill. We went on to enjoy the tons of food we had. When the bill came, it included tostados. So she took the bill back. It came back incorrect another time with two ceviche still there. It's not what you think. We walked the strip and chose gitano because of its beautiful hidden jungle feel and the hosts seemed very lovely. Since we didn't have a reservation they told us to sit at the bar for an hour. Everyone seemed friendly up to this point. After enjoying our cocktail and eating an appetizer my friend and I almost said at the same time that we both felt uncomfortable, as if we were back home at a knock off bougie bar in Los Angeles. The food was overpriced. We got two different types of tacos and they were nothing special. We also got guacamole and ceviche and the chips were burnt and had a very strong and overpowering flavor with a bad after taste. I couldn't even tell if the presentation was good or not because it was almost pitch black. Please, if you decide to go there, BEWARE OF THE MOSQUITOES. These mosquitoes don't mess around. My partner and I visited Gitano during our last stay in Tulum. The ambiance was beautiful. The evening that we had dinner, there was an artist who sang with the most beautiful voice ever. I had the shrimp tacos which were very good. After dinner we sat in the outside back area under the stars which set the most beautiful mood. On Friday night they host a party and when I say party I mean party!!!! Drinks flowing, music pumping and people dancing. It was a good time but the only thing I didn't enjoy was the cigarette smoking around me. I would definitely recommend visiting Gitano if you are ever in Tulum. read more

Thirty of my friends went to Gitanos for dinner, spent over 5k and I couldn't be more disappointed. Not only was the food OK, left hungry but we couldn't find my friend so I wanted to go to the bathroom to see if she was there. They didn't let me in to check after JUST walking out and paying an insane bill but they grabbed my arm and pushed me and told me I cannot come in. It was pouring rain and we were able to sneak a high top table by the bar, the staff was unfriendly and just continued to repeat "you cannot order entrees you can only order appetizers." So all we ordered was 2 drinks and an app, and it was $50. Pretty sure the drinks had zero alcohol in them, and the food was below average at best. Went here a few weeks ago while in tulum for the sound tulum festival and cane back every night for drinks simply because the crowd had such a good vibe and the bartenders were great. The food was soso but everything else including the music made up for it. Get there before 11 or you will be waiting on a line. If you are not with beautiful women it wont be easy to get in at that point as this seems to be the "hottest" place in the area and turns into a club/lounge at night. Beware of the 10-20 drug dealers flashing cocaine bags in front of your face all night while u wait in line at the bathroom. read more

This is a gorgeous location on the jungle side, with great cocktails. We came in fairly early mid-week and were able to get a table for dinner right away without a reservation. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, but the food was unfortunately disappointingly bland, and the check for two people was much higher than at some of the best restaurants in Tulum. I always appreciate when waiters let you know if you're ordering too much; it's sometimes hard to tell as so many restaurants serve small plates these days. That wasn't the case here, and we certainly could have done without one or two dishes. It was getting busier as the evening went on, with live music, and lines forming outside. Definitely a popular late-night spot! I would recommend visiting for some great cocktails and atmosphere, a few snacks if you must, but maybe skip dinner. read more
