I'm sitting right now having coffee in the house we recently purchased in Pacific Beach, looking at the amazing work that Rob performed for us; redoing our kitchen completely, and basically painting the whole house over a period of a week. Rob wildly exceeded both my, and my spouse's expectations. I posted three photos that basically look white and mahogany, to show you how dated our kitchen looked before Rob got involved. Then you also see the amazing transformation of the bar and kitchen with off-white cabinetry, and a dark cracked pepper paint below the bar which grounds it! I also included a few random pictures of other areas that Rob transformed. All of this work was performed for a very reasonable price, literally a third of what it would cost to go to a normal contracting firm. Rob is honest and fair and puts his heart into everything he does. He has tremendous design talent, and with it comes strong opinions which he expresses! My spouse and I (design professionals) respected that and listened sometimes and didn't at other times. We see that as part of the process. Before you have somebody come and repaint your kitchen, or other parts of your house, be aware that this is a messy process. You'll need to take stuff out of the cabinets, and be prepared for a few days to a week of chaos. Rob used a lot of painters, plastic and tape and did a great job of protecting our floors and other surfaces. Recognize that the process of painting an area is intensive, and Rob will likely throw himself into it, maybe take his shoes off and listen to music. Give him space and he will perform beautifully. On the last day he cleaned up perfectly and got any spot that made it to our floors or other surfaces. He even repaired areas based on the last painters failures! Based on this experience, I would hire Rob again, and likely will in the future for other projects. In addition to painting cabinets and walls, he can transform almost any piece of furniture, and is going to reupholster a couple chairs and a bench that we purchased. If you hire him you'll be in good hands. read more

Rob is amazing to work with. He took his time to listen to my ideas and come up with a great design for my completely out dated kitchen. The molding on the cabinets make such a huge difference. He was easy to work with around our schedule. He has a very different different personality that I guess some could find off setting but he's very entertaining. He did all of my families numerology and if was very interesting. I can't say too many great things about rob and his designing!!!! read more

Girly girly, and owner Rob, is the best thing that ever happened to me. He typically takes a dark kitchen and makes it light but I wanted to take my cream-colored cabinets and make them dark. I love how they turned out. Rob also recommended Freddy, his countertop guy and I have beautiful quartz now. He has a true designer's eye and made some great suggestions that really worked for me. Rob is a fine craftsman, and his enthusiasm for his work is palpable! Whenever I needed any work done on my office space, he was always so accommodating. He does not waste time or do anything halfway. Additionally, he is so incredibly fair with his prices, and will not be satisfied until you are happy with his work. I love Girly Girly and can't believe that there isn't a review for it yet. Mike, the owner, keeps the shop open a variety of hours and it is sometimes hit or miss to catch him. But, when you do...you are in for a major treat! I love anything shabby chic and his items are absolutely decadent. He has a handful of chests, drawers, nightstands, tables and a host of other things that he has hand chosen and restored himself. His pieces are gorgeous! His prices are extremely affordable considering the similar items I saw in Ocean Beach during my last furniture shopping excursion. This is my first Yelp review and I was so inclined because Rob did an excellent job painting our kitchen and bathroom cabinets in our rental. He has terrific attention to detail and a good eye for design. He was mindful and bondoed all the cracks and worn wood. Rob is a gem and will recommend him in a heartbeat. You won't be sorry. This is an added bonus....he is very reasonable in his pricing. We also had new quartz countertops installed by his friend Freddy. I found Rob by chance when asking about a piece of furniture in his store. I had been really wanting a white kitchen but heard it's thousands for new cabinets . I saw on his website that he does 2 Day kitchens for $750. We set it up . I had concerns that the paint would chip and other concerns and he responded to each concern so promptly . He distresses the cabinets for the shabby chic look and he spent 18 hours putting 6 coats of paint on everything. The cabinets look store bought, no paint streaks . He helped with advice with the new handles on the drawers and even picked them up for me. It's super helpful that he knows what will look good with his eye for design and is happy to share it . He had ideas for a backsplash at a cheap price he cares about saving money. He's so nice and fun to talk to!!!! I'm glad I found him , I seriously love my kitchen !!!!!!! read more

Rob is awesome! He went above and beyond for me - saving me thousands of dollars by educating me on options. He even accompanied me to a Stone storefront to pick out the right slab and ensure the dimensions would work. He coordinated the other contractors and was extremely reasonable - I had to argue with him about paying more for his time :-) He cares very much about his clients and doing a great job for them. She has to be the rudest human I have ever come in contact with. I was interested in purchasing a piece that was posted online. She only provided the height of it and I needed it to fit in a small space in my bathroom so I asked if she could provide me the other dimensions. Her response: "..it is my expereince in ten years .that girls who ask for measurements never ever purchase...its a tall small square end table with lots of storage.. little confused about the measurements". Plenty of people desire measurements when shopping for furniture. I will never even think to buy something from this shack again. read more

She was the rudest person I have ever talked to. I sent her an email asking her about a chandelier and told her what I could afford if she were able to come by one because I am on a fixed income. I got in return the most horrible email ever telling me that she didn't want to hear "my drama"???????????????? OMG, fixed income is drama???? I am 75 years old and in all of my life, I have NEVER had someone treat me so rude. She will not last in business and after reading Amber's review, I now get the total picture. So, after I met Robby and purchased a fabulous vintage mirror from his shop, Girly Girly, I hired him to come over and paint all of my bedroom furniture. Everything was purchased separately over the years and a mitch-match of different colors. Robby came over, painted everything to match - except we left one accent piece, and it all turned out so beautiful!! Robby also does kitchens so I'm hiring him to come back and redo my cabinets! I wish I could give this place negative stars. I live in the neighborhood & always wanted to check it out. My roommate loves the kind of style shown in the window display & Christmas was the perfect opportunity to find something for her. If only I could get thru the front door. I walked up almost an hour after it was supposed to open. A barefoot man standing in the middle of an overcrowded closet-sized space was putting stuff together. I wearily asked if he was open. He went back to business & turned his back, saying he was just opening up. Okayyy. Then he asked if I was looking for furniture. Furniture? I may be in the market for a new piece, but had also seen all sorts of knickknacks on the display. As I stepped inside I told him I was going to browse (I didn't know what I was getting myself into). He abruptly stopped and blocked my way- Then no, I'm not open then. Uh, excuse me? Are you serious?! "Yes, I am. How am I supposed to get any business if I just let people come in to look around? I can't support myself like that. If you don't have intentions of buying anything, you can't come in." I. Was. Floored. I had never been treated this way, especially when trying to support a local vendor & wanted to wait around for the hidden cameras to be revealed. Instead I said " Wooowwww. Not anymore I don't. This guys has some OK pieces but you have to be willing to be abused and judged by his sour attitude. When I decided I couldn't afford the piece I was looking at he was very mad and really rude. Shabby Chic isn't that hard to do yourself so I would recommend doing that rather than going to this guy. Just you tube a couple how to videos, by the heavy grit sand paper, and buy the white wash pickling paint from home depot. It is takes time but not talent. read more

I have never walked into a store and been so taken back by complete rudeness! I knocked on the door and the owner opened it. The first thing out of his mouth was "if you are not here to spend money then dont bother" He said he was a small business and that unless i was actually going to spend something it was VERY clear i should leave. My reply was" how will i know if i want to spend anything if I cant even look". My friend who had driven by girly girly prior was with me and wanted to stop in. She was so offended and shocked that she told me to just walk away and forget it. We literally walked away in complete disbelief of how incredibly rude the owner was! Fantastic design ideas, especially on a tight budget. Rob was recommended by my realtor for a house that needed some fixing up prior to selling it, and did a wonderful job. I don't know a great deal about design myself, so I gave him pretty free rein. He made the place look super, kept costs down, and it all faster than I expected. I walked by this store last week and saw the cutest pink desk and had to go in. When I came back after lunch it was closed, but there was a sign that said call or text for an appointment. I texted right away and asked if I could come in the following weekend. The owner said he could be open any time and sent pics of things I might be interested in. For things that I was looking for that he didn't have, told me where to go to get them and has since emailed me things he has found on craigslist. The desk I was originally interested in was out of my price range but he worked with me to find somthing else that would work for what I needed for my daughter's room. I ended up getting a little desk and ice cream chair. Completely resonably priced. He also touched the desk up for me. I would recommend this place and will go back for sure. read more
