Looking for a place with cozy cabin vibes, a warm gas fireplace and lakefront views? Look no…read morefurther. The property is small but in a prime location for Lake Tahoe activities. There is a private beach for lake activities and only 15min from Northstar ski resort. Safeway grocery store is less than 1/4mile away and lots of restaurants close by. Unfortunately there is only one parking space per unit and any additional cars must be parked off the property. There is trash and towel service twice a week. Laundry facilities are free but there are only 2 washers and 2 dryers for the entire property. Detergent is $2 and can be purchased at the front desk. Because of a snow storm we could not make it on the first day and arrived late on the second day. The staff at the front desk (Erin, Kelly, Kailee) were all accommodating with the late check-in process and texted instructions on how to retrieve our card keys since the office close at 6pm.

The positives: Very clean. The communication is fantastic. View of the lake is priceless. You can…read moreenjoy the property without being bothered, just be respectful. Bed, even though a Murphy is quite comfortable. Having your own assigned parking spot is super convenient. After hours check in was straight forward & easy. The private & protected swim/kayake launch area is great. BBQ's are plentiful & work great. Loved watching the sunrise & sunset from the pier. Had a great time playing ping pong. Full kitchen is stocked & great for preparing meals. The not so great: Temperature in the room runs warm, no matter what you do. We left most windows open 24/7 & were still warm - even with snow outside. To complicate that - leaf blowers...run all day long. Do they carry around extra batteries? No joke - from 8am to after 5pm, it doesn't stop. When you have to leave windows open to not boil in the room - the noise from the leaf blowers = nousicance. The pillows are crazy full. Make your neck hurt firm. I ended up filling my own pillowcase with a small blanket I brought. If you trade through II, for a sleeps 2 privately/with a kitchen - that's exactly what you get. A room with a kitchen in it. It's pretty intimate to co-habitate for a week together. We did ok but it would be awkward if your not super close/familiar with each other. $25 a day "resort fee", no matter what the season & no matter what type of room you have. No kayakes, no pool - doesn't matter = $25 a day. We won't be back, unfortunately. Might be better in a larger unit during a different time of year.

Very nice and cozy little roadside inn. Our king-bed room was nicely appointed with a TV, fridge,…read moremicrowave, and coffeemaker. I found the bed exceptionally comfortable--firm but still cushy. The room felt spacious without being overly large, and the live gas fireplace was perfect for an otherwise chilly spring day here in Lake Tahoe. The bathroom was OK--nothing special but nothing terrible either. Except maybe the shower, which had very little water pressure and hard to adjust temp control. I was an also a little disappointed that there wasn't an open lobby for checking in; everything for our stay was handled by phone. It was also a little weird to have to walk downstairs from the parking lot to our room, but it was fine. That said, our room was poolside and we also had a view of Lake Tahoe out our sliding glass door. All in all, for the great price we got I really can't complain. It's a great option--and walking distance to Pep's for breakfast is a big plus.

Self-check in was horrible. I've done it before through Airbnb so I promise i'm literate lol, but…read morethis time I was emailed a link to complete forms and did so. I was supposed to receive my code and room number but never got it(I did it while driving to the hotel, about an hr out). We waited 15 minutes outside with our suitcases, the front desk( maybe customer business room? not sure) was unlocked but no one was inside. Finally called the number on the door and it was a help line. Waited on hold for a bit, it was about another 15 mins total to get into the room. Lady on the phone was kind and helpful, not her fault at all! But it took about 45 mins from arrival to actually entering the room with waiting/on hold/check-in. By the time we figured out where to go there was another person standing outside the door near where we parked going through the same situation. I don't have a problem with self check-in although I don't prefer it, but you should probably make sure it works before permanently implementing it. Only other things were the shower head was incredibly low and the tv kind of sucked. For the shower: I'm 5'10, which I know isn't short, but it was at neck height. My bf is 6'4 and it was an even worse struggle lol. The tv guide didn't work, we had to change the channels to see what was on and the internet must have been spotty because it would lag every minute or so. Other than that the place itself was okay, i'm usually not one to be picky so it all would have been great for the price without the check-in part (please check my other reviews, leaving a 3 star is a big deal to me as I try to be positive on here!). The view was nice and the bed was comfortable! Overall, maybe it's because we had a long trip so I was antsy to unpack and shower, but I won't be returning just due to the check-in experience.

When I first moved to the Truckee Meadows in 2008, I wasn't familiar with the Veterans Guest House…read more My introduction to VGH was by my daughter's friend who attended Orvis School of Nursing. As a military brat, this organization holds a special place in my heart. I have donated to this cause for fifteen years, including posting a reminder daily on my Facebook page to vote for VGH to win a large donation from Home Depot years ago. And, yes, they won! Finally, I visited their wonderful facility at their annual open house on December 9, 2023. I am so pleased to see that we are helping our Veterans and their families with lodging while the Veteran receives medical attention at no cost to them! Many companies and other groups provide dinner nightly for those staying there! If you have a minute, you might want to take a quick tour to see how VGH "spends" our donations and I believe you will also be impressed. Please keep in mind that VGH operates solely on the donations of our local community! There are reading areas, a laundry room, TV rooms, and bedrooms from single beds to family-sized all with bathrooms, large open community areas like the kitchen and dining area. Please remember that our Veterans signed a blank check when they served our country and now we can help them!

I'm not a veteran, so I have never used this facility…read more But it's one of my favorite organizations to contribute to. Several times a year I drop off various greeting cards for the guests to use, as well as various dental items. They also accept cash and gift cards to several area stores. Throughout the year VGH has a few fund raisers. October is Boots to Fashion. A fabulous event at a Reno casino ballroom that includes a champagne three course lunch, raffle and auction items and of course a fashion show. Women veterans of all ages and branches donate their time walk the runway and show off the latest trends in women's clothing from local shops. A fabulous event that honors the many women in the military. Why are fund raisers needed ? Because VGH provides US military service veterans and their families a place to stay in Reno while they are receiving medical treatment at the VA Center or other area facilities. The House is like a small hotel with a common area living room and kitchen. It is not associated the Veterans Administration. Guests are suggested a $25 a night donation to help defray costs, but no one is refused for lack of funds. The house, located across the street from the VA Hospital, is a non-profit, and receives no state or federal money for its day to day operations. Huge kudos for everything the VGH does for the veterans. Thank you sir and mam for your service. For more info - veteransguesthouse.org
