Gilbert was amazing!! Prework: My dishwasher stopped working right before Thanksgiving so I called Thermador for service. Gilbert is one of two approved repairman. He was much more reasonable with timing and was more professional on timing estimates. Repair: My dishwasher ended up being a quick fix but my oven happened to malfunction when Gilbert was there. He told me to get another repair confirmation from Thermador and he would for me in schedule to get it repaired. He places order for the parts and came promptly to repair. The first set of parts didn't fix the problem but he knew exactly what was missing. He called and got the additional parts. The last time he came by, he replaced all the parts and it still didn't work. He started troubleshooting and was able to trace the root cause and fixed it once and for all. So we have a very expensive subzero unit it's fairly old but still an excellent condition. It didn't need on the refrigeration side not the freezer side, a new compressor and evaporator and some other components on Valentine's Day this year Gil came that was on a Saturday and replaced all the components and made the unit like new again the value save was substantial through the work key performed the fact that he responded on the weekend and additionally the weekend that was Valentine's Day was very impressive. he got all the work done and the unit works fantastic. we have an older, used, commercial Electrolux swinging door stand-up freezer we keep in the garage. Bought it for $400 or so, from craigslist during COVID from an out-of-business pizzeria. They cost $3000 to replace these days. Yes, I know...a Fridgidaire of the same 20sq ft size is probably closer to $1000. This is a good freezer brand. It started acting up and losing freezing ability recently. I called Giltech because he was already in my contacts, but could not remember him. So, I re-evaluated him based on recent Yelp reviews. He had done work years ago, at my previous house, he said. 1] quick response on cell phone call. 2] super handy, state of the art service request sent by text, which includes uploading pictures. Quick response after that as well. 3] surprisingly state of the art video chat where he can do NFL-TV type chalk-talk drawings on your screen to show you where and what he would repair on your appliance as you show him the view of your appliance. Wow! 4] $150 to come out to see you, applies towards repair, if he does one. Fair. 5] He diagnosed it, felt strongly that adding freon would help, but was realistic, it could eventually run out again. So I knew my options. 6] he and I had a frank discussion about whether to repair or just buy a new one. I decided to replace freon for now, but we both agreed if he needs to come back for freon again, I should replace the freezer. My kind of repair guy. Will use again, for sure! read more

Great Appliance Repairman We've had a problem with our electric double oven for several years and could not get it fixed because the repair people we called said they don't make the parts anymore. Also, our in-door icemaker on our 6-year-old refrigerator stopped dispensing ice. We called Giltech Appliance and Gilbert came the next day and fixed both problems very quickly. The oven needed a new temperature sensor that he had with him and he found that there was a broken switch plus some broken wires in the refrigerator. He worked a miracle in my opinion finding that the broken wires were hidden inside the insulation. He manually fixed the broken wiring. We thought we were going to have to replace the oven at a cost of about $7,000.00 but Gilbert fixed both the oven and the icemaker for $600. that included the new parts. We would gladly call Giltech again for appliance problems. read more

The icemaker in our Thermador built-in wasn't broken but it's been making icicles on the items on the top shelf for much of the pandemic. No one wants ice crusting on the outside of their ice cream containers. We tried to investigate the issue but discovered there is very little information about Thermador appliances on the Internet. None of the suggestions in the help forums applied to our situation. Luckily, we saw some recommendations for Gilbert. He answered our call in the morning and let us know he would be in our area that day. In fact, he fit us in for his last appointment of the day. When he arrived, Gilbert immediately could tell the lining of the ice maker had deteriorated and the maker needed to be replaced. (No wonder we couldn't find the leak!) Even though our freezer is more than a decade old, he had a replacement part with him. No waiting for him to order it. Gilbert told us it would take about 30 mins to replace the ice maker and he finished before then. Easy peasy. Gilbert then told us about other kitchen appliances he could fix in the future (bonus!) A few weeks ago, our fridge experienced the dreaded failed compressor issue. It was over the weekend and we had just bought groceries. Plus we have meds that need to be refrigerated. Double whammy! After doing some research on local repair techs, we decided to go with Gilbert. After we reached out, we did a short phone consultation and worked with me on getting a repair scheduled. I found GilTech when I called Thermador for service. The Thermador rep highly recommended them and made it a point to say "I'm in South Carolina and know them well, they are incredible, you will be in good hands." They refer all over the US so that was a good sign. Right now, they accept inquiries via the website (or text, but then you need to be sure to fill out the inquiry form on the website.) I followed the instructions and they responded immediately and were, fortunately (which I wasn't expecting due to industry setbacks right now), able to come out quickly to inspect the malfunctioning Thermador. They identified the issue, gave us three different scenarios on how to address the problem, clearly communicated and set our expectations, and created a solution. I am truly grateful to have such attentive and competent service. Finding a new refrigerator and/or new parts right now is nearly impossible with the supply chain backup due to the pandemic. GilTech came in and SAVED THE DAY - thank you so much! We are truly grateful. Keep in mind that this industry is severely affected by the pandemic. Call volumes are much higher than normal. Parts are difficult to obtain due to shipping and manufacturer delays. I don't like to see other negative reviews which blame the vendor for this. So be patient folks. GilTech is awesome. Gilbert is very knowledgeable and has many years of experience with many brands of appliances and an expert with built-in refrigerators and high-end appliances. After I completed GilTech's service request and provided the model/serial # information, he called to discuss the problem and was able to schedule an appointment within a day. Gilbert was on time, very professional and communicated throughout his assessment of our 33 year old Monogram built-in refrigerator. He identified the problem and fixed it on the spot because he had brought the parts with him. His charge for parts and labor was reasonable and the refrigerator is completely functional again. We were not expecting such a positive outcome. Gilbert also did a quick check on our oven that we thought was out of order for many years. He turned the oven on and let us know it was fine and no repairs were needed. Gilbert also followed up the next morning to make sure the freezer and fridge were cooling properly. Our new Thermador Gas Range had an ignition issue I reported to the company. On Saturday, they opened a fix-it order with GilTech sharing I would likely not have it repaired until early June. To my surprise, today, Tuesday, Gil phoned sharing he had a cancellation and could come in 20 minutes! Not only did he come, he diagnosed the issue, and fixed the problem. Gil is extremely knowledgeable, polite, and efficient. He explained, due to the type of ignitor our range has it will likely go out again, but now I know! I would give GilTech a "10" if possible. I had an issue with my water filter unit, it was leaking and not dispensing water due to incorrectly installing a new water filter. My refrig is a Bosch, and it was hard to find a company that would even come out. Finally located someone to come out. The Tech from this other company quoted me over $1000 to replace the entire unit. Without even really checking the water filter. I declined. I contacted GilTech, (recommenced on Bosch website) and was able to get an appointment a few days later. "Gilbert" took the filter canister out (other tech didn't even try), checked the unit, determined there was probably nothing really wrong with the unit and properly replaced it. I am "watching carefully" but so far no water is leaking and water is dispensing. And, he did not even charge me the full service call amount. Gil is absolutely one of the most honest, hardworking men you will ever have come in to your house. He is very professional and extremely knowledgeable. Our refrigerator just quit working at 4:45PM this past Wednesday. He came over at 7:30PM and diagnosed the problem. The parts were ordered the next morning. We scheduled a time for 7:00PM tonight (Friday) because of my schedule. He was extremely communicative and was 1/2 early tonight. He replaced the damaged part and everything seems to be working like new. He answered all of my questions and even adjusted the water dispenser so my refrigerator would work more efficiently. But our time didn't match up. So I just had him drop it off at the mailbox and replaced the old one myself. He's considerate, polite and conscientious. Traits that are important especially when having someone in your home and during a global pandemic. Secondly, his work is top notch.
