So it was the worst case scenario. My refrigerator was full of food for Thanksgiving and my refrigerator quit! I was in a panic. I called Thomas Appliance Service and they immediately put me at ease. They were able to send someone out right away. It wasn't as bad as I had thought. They were able to fix the problem and saved the day for me. And they were affordable! The reason why I called them was because a few years ago the dishwasher where I worked broke and they came out right away and fixed it. Called for service call for our oven. Was told the $135.00 service call fee would be waived if we went ahead with the repair. Technician said that I misunderstood and charged us the fee on top of the part required for repair and the labor to install it. Will not use them again. read more

My whirlpool dishwasher had an error code and is two years old, I called and was told about the $135 service fee upfront. The technician stood by the dishwasher and ran it, and "listened" without taking anything apart or looking under the sink. The dishwasher was not filling with water and the error code according to the manufacturer had something to do with drainage and water. He then quoted us $975 for "possibly" what could be a motor/pump replacement... but he's not sure. Then my husband only had $140 in cash because apparently they only take Zelle or cash (that was not told to me up front) and he said he would keep the $5 as at tip. I'm sorry?? a tip for what! Wow! I am not sure why all the shade given to this business in the reviews. My experience was 10x what I was expecting. I called at 3:30pm and they dispatched someone by 5:00pm to inspect our washing machine. I found the service person to be very polite, very knowledgeable, and worth the price. The unit had a manufacturer defect that ruined my floor and he was able to diagnose rather quickly without a lot of background details from me. He brought value from his experience which is what you are paying for. His communication was pleasant, easy to understand, and clear. I would have paid double for this level of service! read more

Dishwasher door wasn't sealing right and spilling water every time we ran a load. We called another company first, but they suggested getting a new washer altogether (turned out the door needed to be adjusted) After some more searching we got recommended Thomas Appliance through a friend who had used them before and am I glad we did. Our cooktop started shooting out sparks from the knobs so I called Thomas Appliance and a very polite lady scheduled Dee to come by within a couple of hours. He promptly diagnosed the issue, stabilized the unit, ordered the parts and returned a couple of days to replace electrical components and restore the cooktop to full operational status. She talked to her appliance guy and he said he can't fix them. I asked her why? What is the reason why he cannot fix? And she could not give me a reason. If I could give them a 0, I would. They are incredibly expensive, employees are extremely rude, lazy, and they don't show up on time. We had to reschedule twice because the rep never showed up on the times that he had scheduled. When he finally did show up, he scratched both my washer and dryer... which he didn't need to touch my washer, but for some reason he decided to scratch it up. Long story short my washer broke. They said they could get the part and fix it within a week... 4 weeks later and zero communication on their part and one VERY rude conversation from the old lady that works there, we bought our own damn part and fixed it ourselves in 4 days. If these people are your only option, throw out whatever is broken and buy a new one. You'll save money, time, and sanity in the long run. read more

The lady over the phone is super condescending and rude. When she asked for information on my microwave I gave her make and model. She complained she only needed the make...she really didn't give an eff besides what she wants. It was like she was doing me a favor, not doing a business. She said I shouldn't be make an appointment unless it's for sure but then says I can cancel but she doesn't prefer people cancelling etcetc. I ask her for pricing - no estimates, didn't want to hear the problem, depends on the service guy. I get that she doesn't want to misquote me and appreciate it but didn't appreciate her laughing at me (again condescendingly) saying nobody will estimates. I have used them in the past for other issues. They were always very knowledgeable and honest. They have GREAT customer service. Our fridge died on us. So, I called Thomas Appliance Service and spoke to Irene, she was great very understanding of our dilemma. She got a tech set up to come and look at our fridge. Our tech Doug came out on time, actually a bit earlier then the estimated time (which was great). He looked at our fridge, he knew what he was doing. He explained what was wrong with it and gave us an estimate on what the costs would be to have it repaired and the time line on when to expect the parts to come in from the manufacture. We asked him several questions regarding the brand and the history of the brand. With the current issue and other know issues that this brand has been known to happen with this brand. He answered all our questions. He told us to think on it and get back to him if we decide to have the fridge repaired. So, we have decided to put our fridge to rest. But, the best part was in speaking with Doug we asked him which brands he felt were the best brands to purchase. He gave us a couple of brands. I am very thankful for his honesty and not having us throw money into a fridge that has done it's job for as long as it has and is not ready to rest. So, I called Irene and let her know that we decided to not have the fridge repaired. She was kind and understanding. I highly recommend them for your appliance repair needs. This place has no regard for their customers. 4 weeks ago an older tech came out on a Saturday morning (smelling like 100 cigarettes) to see why my fridge is not cooling. He quoted me for the replacement part and 7-10 days for it to come in. After two weeks I followed up, the lady that runs the business said she would look to see where the part is. She called me back hours later and said it would be a couple more days. I questioned why they did not give me the option to have a faster shipping method knowing that I cannot store food while the fridge is broke and I have a baby that requires medications kept cool. She replied back that I should get a cooler and some dry ice for the time. I was shocked when I heard this. At 3 weeks I followed up again, got a call the next day that the part was still not in. I am at 5 weeks, I have repaired the fridge myself and I have yet to even get a call about the part or when they can fix it. I would never recommend this company. read more

Called in to inquire about repairing my fridge that was laid down in the back of the moving truck during our move. (Turns out that will mess up your fridge). Spoke to the lady who answered the phone, she was helpful and was able to tell me what the issue was right off the bat. I appreciated that she didn't BS me or sugar coat something just to try to make a dime. She basically told me that it wasn't worth repairing being that the liquids mix when a fridge is laid down and it usually ruins the whole thing and purchasing a new one would be cheaper then hiring them to fix it. Unlike the previous reviews...we didn't smell alcohol on the man that arrived at the door but something was certainly off putting and antisocial about his dialogue. I can't remember if he was on time, but I don't remember it being an issue. The worker was sarcastic and acted like a 'know it all.' Case: my mom and I store cereal on top of the fridge...we had a stash due to a recent sale." He went on to say "you like cereal huh?" Well I don't understand why it is more expensive because it is such a common meal." Uh...you're here to fix my fridge right!? In the end...he concluded "I can't do anything, it is going to make that noise until it goes out." The dial on our washer was misfiring, so we called Thomas Appliance to inquire about replacing the dial or (if it's too expensive) just replacing the entire washer. Abel came out and when he called the 'home office' to ask about the part, he had to tell the guy three times to look into it. I was standing there unamused to say the least. He said it's an older washer so they'd have to order the part and that would take two weeks. Totally fine. Initialed to agree to the price and said 'see you soon'. A month went by so we finally called. The lady who answered (I think Carla) said she'd look into it and call back. That never happened. We called again and she said the part was being shipped from the manufacturer...a month later. We finally harassed them enough to get the part and schedule time to come fix the washer. Abel was nice both times he came out, but other than that I would not recommend. I wish I could say our experience was random, but judging from other reviews on here, it doesn't look that way. Sent in a web request around 4 yesterday (Tues) by 5 or so that evening I had an appointment. The tech. called at 8:05 to say he'd be about 30 min, he was and he even found the place no problem (that isn't easy as most internet maps send people to our back alley where our garages are!). He looked at my washer and dryer, told me how to "fix" my dryer, didn't charge me to blow smoke up my you know what about some part needing fixed, yada yada. Fixed the washer (new clutch) and even swept up all the fuzzies that have accumulated in the back of the dryer (they are in a tight spot). Fast and great service!!!! read more

Very disappointed with these people. My refrigerator's ice machine was on the fritz. I sent an email inquiry describing the problem and got an instant appointment via telephone. So far so good. The technician came out the next morning. Unfortunately he had to order a part. I would have thought that he might have brought the part with him. Silly me. - We scheduled a return visit for the coming weekend. Well, after calling early in the morning and then waiting well past the 3 hour window, we realized that they just totally blew us off. No phone call, no nothing. This was very unfortunate for us because another guy from a competing company called shortly after I made the initial call but I told him we were already taken care of. Red Flag #1: When I called to request a technician to come to my house to see what was wrong with my washer, the service rep told me "the technician would call my house before he came, because if I wasn't home he would be pissed!" (Real professional) Red Flag #2: I was told (on a Friday) that the part would be in by the middle of next week. When I hadn't heard anything by the following Wednesday, I called them. The service rep said, "Oh, yes, we received the part yesterday." (So.... I guess it wasn't really a priority for them to actually call and schedule the repair.) Red Flag #3: After the repair technician failed to show up during the 3 hour window for the repair, I checked my caller ID. He had called, but I hadn't answered. (OK...my bad... technically, I wasn't home, but I was paying someone to wait at my house for the repair.) When I called the service rep to ask about the "no show," she than LIED to me, and said my appointment was the next day. (WRONG ANSWER. I would have at least been somewhat satisfied with her telling me that he hadn't come, because I didn't answer the phone.) Red Flag #4: When the repair technician came today to fix the washer, when he was done, I hit redial from my caller ID and his mobile phone began to ring. I said, "Oh, that was you who called yesterday. Why did you call?" After a long pause and a couple ummmmm's, he LIED and said "Oh, I had a little bit of extra time, and I thought maybe I could fit your repair in a little early." To which I replied, "Well, you and both know that's not true." RED FLAG #5: AS I AM TYPING THIS, I AM RUNNING MY FIRST LOAD OF LAUNDRY... WHEN I HEAR "BEEP, BEEP, BEEP..." I called them today about my induction cooktop. The wonderful lady had no idea what an induction cooktop was !!! She had never heard of that expression before. Imagine someone working for an appliance repair store not knowing what an induction cooktop was !! . She had no idea what I was talking about when I tried to explain it to her so we eventually decided to call it a "glass" cooktop. I'm very technical, I installed this cooktop myself in 1990; I have extensive traiining as an electrical engineer, do all my own electrical so I know what I'm talking about. I politely asked this lady(?) dispatcher if she could have on the techs call me back. I gave her these reasons: 1. Ask them if they have experience working on induction cooktops 2. Since the cooktop was from the 70's and some parts were probably not readily available, I wanted to see if they could order the parts. 3. I wanted to tell them I had the electrical schematic and explain the installation (it would be difficult to work on since it was hard wired into the electrical box and would have to be disconnected since the heavy gauge wire was not long enough to work on it without disconnecting it. 4. Explain that only one burner was out She continually said she would NOT have the technician call me back since it was a waste of time. How's that for customer service !!! I finally called 408-300-8254 and got a one person repair shop that answered all my questions. He is coming to look at the cooktop. I explained to him I'm 67 years old and don't want to fool around with this stuff anymore. He is only going to charge 30 dollars for visit(compared to 75 dollars from Sears person; I never even got to the point of asking the Thomas Repair lady how much and when they could come out. ). I guess my point is this. If you are going to have an appliance repair, go to a small one man operation since it will be cheaper and the experience of the person you talk to will be much better. read more

This company is EXPENSIVE and will take advantage of your situation to charge you a lot. The service person came to our house, spent 10 minutes to check on the problem and then demanded $240 per job charge instead of hourly charge. It took him 30 minutes to replace a bad heater coil and while he was taking the parts out, he was cursing (to himself I guess) "I hate this thing". We have a baby in the house and need the fridge to be fixed and can't wait to shop around. The total repair bill came out to $342 for 40 minutes of work. read more

I recently had a strange experience with Thomas Appliance Service and want to share my learning. My refrigerator was not cooling, so I called Dr. Dee's Appliance Repair. A technician came out immediately and gave me a quote on Dr. Dee's letterhead. A week later the same technician came back to fix the refrigerator and this time he gave me a different invoice on Thomas Appliance Service letterhead. I asked why they were different and he explained that he was originally sent as a Thomas technician but he just didn't have the Thomas letterhead the first time. I called the office and they said it was okay, that I could "tear up" the Dr. Dee's quote and use the Thomas invoice. Later I had questions about the job (which I documented in a Yelp rating for Dr. Dee's) and tried to log a complaint with Thomas. They referred me back to Dr. Dee's Appliance Repair, who explained that Dr. Dee's and Thomas share the same phone service, and use many of the same technicians, but they apologize for the confusion in quoting vs. invoicing. I was dissatisfied with the service I received from Dr. Dee's, and I am dissatisfied with Thomas' handling of the situation, as they were more than ready to accept my check to Thomas for services but they were not willing to deal with any issues when those came up, referring me back to Dr. Dee's again. Very strange so I would highly caution people to be careful. read more

Highly recommend using this company! Called at 8:30am on a Friday to have someone come out and look at our refrigerator (not cooling). I had called at least 10 other places only to be told they don't come out to Gilroy, they couldn't come out until Monday or their phone numbers were actually disconnected! On a whim, I came across Thomas Appliance Service and spoke with a very nice lady who said she would call and check if her Gilroy repairman could come out today. I was called back in less than two minutes and told he would be out this morning and less than 20 mins later, he arrived! Another 30 mins later, our fan in the refrigerator is replaced and were up and running again! I was so impressed with the service I received, especially on such short notice.. Technician (think his name was Dave) was very polite and professional as well as friendly and the repair cost was very reasonable. The appliance repair man Thinh Nguyen did a great job and worked very quickly. He fixed my dryer in no time flat. I was charged for 1 hour of labor at 120 dollars although he probably took no more than 20 minutes at my house. I'm not complaining. Sure, he could have taken a full hour by doing unncessary checks and screwing the bolts back on slower but that wouldn't be cool. read more

Tech was so honest, he explained that the cost of repair (over $1000.00) and that our family would be better off buying a new washer. I respect his honesty.
