Based on this experience, I do not recommend using Gil's Design in Miami. This was one of the most unprofessional companies I have worked with. The company failed to provide a delivery schedule, attempted to impose excessive storage fees without proper notice, and demonstrated poor organization throughout the process. Deliveries were scheduled same-day, merchandise arrived incomplete, and there was no clear communication regarding outstanding items. Despite one order being paid in full in October, the company was still unable to confirm a delivery date by late December. The owner's communication was unprofessional and rude, and she insisted on charging over $2,000 in storage fees, even though the correct balance invoice was only submitted the day before and the contract allows a five-day payment period. Hello, I work in interiors and I want to share a personal experience I recently had with Darcy from Gils Design Upholstery. We brought in a chaise from the 1980s, foam completely worn out, fabric ripped - in dire need of some TLC. We purchased a beautiful Pierre Frey fabric for reupholstery and asked that GDU reupholster it with the same design, but to add a skirt. We were promised a completion date of Dec 2025. It was delivered in late January 2026 and to our surprise, it had been redesigned - new seams, added panels - a different chaise! And they charged an arm and a leg! To add insult to injury, when I approached them about it - politely - and asked what can be done to rectify it, Darcy responded asking if I wanted to change anything because she would gladly send me an estimate. They even slyly tried to keep the extra yardage of the fabric that I had ordered - which is truly a crime with Pierre Frey!!!!! This is a disgrace of a business. read more

IN NOVEMBER 2023, We had Gil's Design Upholstery repair cushions and panels on our boat that had been damaged by an animal. They came, took the parts out they needed. To take them out, they removed screws, bolts, nuts, flats and lock washers. We were there while they were doing this and they gave them to us to keep until they repair the cushions and panels and come back to put them back. When they came back, we weren't here because we're working, so we left the hardware for them to use. Some time after, we realized that all the cushions and panels were falling apart because they attached them with adhesive strips!!! We contacted Ernesto, who was very rude and denied any wrong doing. Then he came back to his senses and told us he would fix everything. After standing us up twice, we asked him to give us back everything and that we will find a way to finish the job properly. TO THIS DAY MAY 29th 2024, he gave us back only part of the hardware and still has a panel in his possession. This is unacceptable and so unprofessional! I would not recommend, despite me speaking to them for over a month they kept rescheduling appointments, only to NEVER arrive at our property to provide a proposal. Making matters worse I would send them an email confirmation to confirm their attendance on the day of, they would respond but they never came, and didn't even have the decency to contact me to advise me of any cancellation. This happened at lease 4-5 times spanning over a months' time. Fradusters. Two guys, Gil and Darcy communicate with me. One of them showed up for an estimate. We agreed that they will do drapes for my windows for 2,400$ and I gave him a 1000$ check for down payment and they were supposed to send me an invoice next morning. we agreed that final payment will be upon delivery. After not receiving the invoice for 3 days I protested and was told that if I don't like it they will cancel and will not reimburse me. Nonetheless the same day I got the invoice - 2960$, more then 500$ of what we agreed but I said OK. On the other hand, the invoice stated that I need to pay the rest before delivery, before seeing the final product. When I protested, they canceled my order and said they will no reimburse down payments. read more

We hired Gil to reupholster our expensive Pottery Barn sectional that we absolutely LOVE, it's the most plush, comfortable sofa we have ever owned. It was originally white twill fabric but it was starting to look stained no matter how many times we had it cleaned so it was time for a face lift. We went with the linen/polyester blend with chrome nail heads and Gil went above and beyond. It looks AMAZING! Gil is beyond professional, fair and punctual. Excuse was that I never confirmed two hours prior to the scheduled appointment, when the time and date were originally confirmed a few days prior when appointment was made. What a wonderful find in Miami!! I am in the midst of redecorating my balcony area, for which I needed waterproof cushions for outdoors. They were able to cut and design marine-compliant ( the same cushions used on yachts that are buoyant with the highest density) within 72 hours. When I picked up my cushions I was shocked at how well constructed they all were! I couldn't be happier with their services; will definitely be returning for additional services!! read more

I ask for an itemized invoice and they apparently do not understand what itemized is. They charged me $45 for bs. And $85 to pick up my couch. Then after they charge it I noticed a $87.55. The absolute best service in Miami and the beaches. I contacted Ernesto, sent him a picture of my chairs, and got an estimate immediately. Amazing pricing and best value. He came the next day to show sample material and pick up my chairs. In 8 days he had my 3 chairs delivered back to me, with perfect workmanship and even touched up the wood on my chairs. Respectful, experienced ( second generation), great pricing, quality work, and a hard worker. And speaks English and Spanish, which is great because I do not speak any other language. They upholstered a sofa & love seat & did an ok job but, the owner would make an appointment & then not show up, had my furniture for over a month, & blamed the people he ordered the material from. He took an antique chair of mine to reupholster, he never got the material I wanted, & then told me if I didn't come get the chair he would charge me $25.00 a day until I picked it up. The chair was covered in plastic & one of his employees carried the chair to my car. When I took it out of my car & removed the plastic I saw why they had covered it & put it in my car for me. The chair was broken, the joints all loose & a huge stain on the seat. They put a 75 cent L-bracket with screws to hold the broken arm together, the pieces weren't even lined up. I had to pay someone else to fix the chair. There are plenty of good upholsterers in Miami, this is not one of them. read more

Ernesto Gil is an old school craftsman! I highly recommend his workmanship and, equally important, his customer service. His pricing is fair, his communication was excellent and pick up/delivery were timely. He is very honest and patient (which he needed with me as I could not decide on the fabric). His shop is modest but don't underestimate it. It is a clean space and his workers are diligent. Ttheir attention to detail is obvious in the work. And the bonus point is that he and the staff are personable and nice!!! So rare these days. I HIGHLY recommend him and his team for any project. Overall, the quality is impeccable top to bottom!!
