My first memory of Springfield Little…read moreTheatre was our rural junior high school drama class being hauled down to watch a play in the metropolis of Springfield!! I couldn't tell you what we watched, but I remember we actually "dressed up" to get on a school bus and ride over an hour for that event. Fast forward at least 20 years, I still got excited (not too dressed up) to see Shrek at SLT. Springfield Little Theatre is located in the historic part of downtown Springfield. They have done so much work cleaning up, restoring and attracting new businesses in the downtown area. I REALLY like Springfield's downtown mix of restaurants, arts, businesses, salons - there is truly something for all ages. Needs a little more parking, but I don't know of any downtown area that doesn't struggle with parking challenges. Back to SLT - my sister, her friend and I all saw "Shrek". I have watched the movies a million times, but still loved the play. I was incredibly impressed by the cast, music, and the amazing costuming! The price for the show was $35 (I think) which isn't cheap, but really isn't bad when you consider a full night of entertainment. Since this is a review of SLT not Shrek - I will focus a little more on that. SLT has a TON of events (not just performances) and educational opportunities available throughout the community. The educational outreach impresses me the most. What a unique chance for kids (and not kids) to take part in the classes, workshops and productions. The prices appear to be quite reasonable and if I did have children- I would really want them to consider the activities and volunteer opportunities. Kudos to her for assisting us in this process. We chose one of the "hard" rooms and i must admit, it is a challenge. We had to utilize clues a few times in order to complete this. I had never been to the Moxie before, but I decided to go today because I heard that they had a…read morefree showing of The Lego Movie and thought me and my son would have a great time. The employees were friendly as we entered the foyer and helped us select our seats; however, they then informed us that "because it's a free showing masks are required". I paused and considered this information. I walked away in frustration, but ended up going back to ask for clarification questions. I got confirmation that if I PAY for a ticket to watch a movie, I would have the freedom to not wear a mask, but when there's no MONEY involved, apparently the science changes and suddenly masks are required to save everyone's lives. I won't start a debate over the validity of masks on this review, that's not the point. The issue I have is that they "recommend" masks for paying customers and "require" masks for non-paying customers. I imagine they'd be hard pressed to explain the "science" behind that decision. Again... employees were pleasant; policies... not. I will never return.

I hadn't been to the new location until I came here for a movie this past weekend with some friends of mine, and I had such a good time, I think I could have sat and watched another one if time had permitted. I sat in for The Grand Budapest Hotel after watching previews for several films that I ACTIVELY WANTED TO SEE, as opposed to enduring a somewhat nonsensical thread of cinematic barf. An amazing aspect of The Moxie is its dedication to real, true businesses - right down to its concessions options. Gourmet chocolate bar with orange peel? Yup. Izze soda? Got it. Wine? Wait. Hold the phone. There's WINE here? I can have WINE with my excellently hip indie film? Someone snatch me up a blanket made of alpaca wool and let's do this thing! And the prices are refreshingly NOT blasphemous, as opposed to chain cinema concession stands. The new Moxie is somehow just the old Moxie on a different street - as in, it retained its upbeat, modern, blocked red-and-black scheme in the best possible way - with a few new art installations thrown in. The new auditoriums are even better, though. They're bigger yet cozier and the red seats (which are super comfy on your buns, by the way) remind you where you are even after you're away from the lobby. You're at The Moxie, and you're enjoying yourself. The staff seems great, too. The college-ish girl running the register at the front popped into the theater before our show began and gave a short little talk about another movie coming up, which was not insignificant in the sense that it really showed that this theatre is loved. As Ebert and Roeper would say (because they review movies and stuff, get it? Ha ha ha...): two thumbs up!

Went last night (9/24/25) to see 4 bands. Demon Hunter, War of Ages, Convictions and Cultist. The…read moreshow was amazing. Its a shame they had it in such a horrible venue. Bought tickets online and it stated the doors opened at 6 pm and show starts at 7 pm. Got there at 6:15 pm and were about 150 -200 ft from the entrance in line. It took till 7:15 to get to the door, in the rain. When we got to the door, we asked why the line was moving so ridiculously slow. They stated they were checking ID's. Its an all ages show. Instead of scanning tickets (the ones with the barcode), they were looking it up by name. Then, they stated anyone under 21 had to pay a $5 minor charge! No mention of this on the website, tickets or venue info. Just an outright money grab. Could have made some points up by foregoing the $5 and saying sorry we made you wait in the rain for an hour and miss the beginning of the show. Instead, we got attitude from the meat head working the counter. Be aware that this was a Christian music concert, so between sets the venue blared gangster rap with vulgar lyrics, knowing full well there were children in the crowd. Just absolutely classless. Won't be returning to this venue.
