Me with Pilot reg Gilboa quarry

This place is really clear and fun.I drive 10 hours to dive there once year. 5 star!

The good: the air fills are cheap and the diving is OK. The bad: it's a cash only business and the owner is, well, eccentric. There are bunks that can be rented on site. They are $10 / person and at least $40. This is great if you have 4 or more people, but if not it's a bit annoying. There are showers and restrooms on site, but no food. There is also a camping option. There is no diving before the dive shop opens, so really, you should probably just stay in town and get breakfast before heading down to the quarry and enjoy the restaurants for dinner before returning to one of the nearby hotels. The site has a submerged school bus, helicopter, airplane. I think the best is the tubes submerged at 60'. These are stacked and two of them are on an incline. This makes it really good for practicing getting your buoyancy dialed in. This is a cold water diving site, and it has a deep end (100'+). I think the depth is the main reason I would want to go back to this site. Most of the other "attractions" are static and well, once you've finned through an airplane, there's no real reason to do it again. As a pretty new diver, the depth and tubes offer chances to dial in the parts of my diving that other quarries in the are don't really offer.

Nice dive location. Friendly staff (new management). Good parking. Cold water. Lots of fish. They are accepting credit cards now.

SCUBA has been on my Bucket List, and with a pending trip to Australia, I looked into getting…read morecertified ahead of the trip. I took a sample dive with Dennis just to see how it would work out (I have a collapsed lung, though my oncologist says it would be okay to dive). The dive was great - fun and informative. Dennis took the time to explain the basics to me without being overly technical. We had great fun for the hour or so in the pool. Unfortunately, Australia requires a local doctor give you a medical certification, whether or not you are certified, and passing that is not a sure thing for me, so I am going to put off lessons for a while.

I decided that I finally wanted to scuba dive, and I researched all the available options in…read moreColumbus. I chose Captain Rick's, and I'm very glad that I did. Rick's is like taking lessons from folks who are in your family. The entire staff is very knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating. The program is very affordable, more so than the other options in Columbus. There is no requirement to spend hundreds of dollars on equipment before you learn. They provide you with the equipment. This is important, because you won't know what you like, or the best options, until after you learn and experience what it's like to be in the water. One of the best things about Captain Rick's is that you can do your check out dive in the warm ocean off the coast of Florida, not in a cold uninteresting quarry in Ohio, though that is an option if you cannot afford the cost of travel and boat fees. I feel my life was enriched after taking the Open Water course at Captain Rick's. Not just because I learned to scuba, but because I gained the pleasure of now having new friends in the instructors and fellow students. Our trip to Florida felt just like taking a trip with long time close friends! Rick's is very flexible with your time in the class and can accommodate most schedules. It is affordable, and I can't stress enough the most appealing aspect to the whole experience: I feel I have become a part of the family!

We had over 35 people go on our trip and the morning it was to start the airline had some delays and canceled all of our flights but we got it worked out and the trip was amazing. Kari was very helpful and made sure everyone was aware of the paperwork needed for international travel and entering the country. We have used Deep Blue Adventures for many years now and they never seem to disappoint.

We ended up paying an additional $2,000 because of the travel agent misleading us and giving us the wrong information on our lodging and when the diving would actually start. Their response was to blame my girlfriend for the mix up, and say they could no longer help us. Really? The only purpose of having a travel agent is to make trip planning easier and to deal with issues as they arise - something that seems lost on them. The owner also chimed in saying it was our fault and refused to acknowledge the misinformation that was given. For that, she may be right. Our fault for trusting them with our travel, and I advise you to avoid them like the plague. You are better off just booking a trip directly, or using a reputable travel agency that understands customer service.
