I have been frequenting this park for several years and when you take time to really "explore" the park, there are numerous activities within this 300 acre park.
The north day use areas of the park have a nice 18 hole disc golf course. Van Buren lake is a shallow lake that does not permit swimming but is a great lake for kayaking and canoeing. 3 miles of mountain bike trails traverse the south shore woods of the lake as well as over 5 mile of hiking trails. For more experienced hiker/mountain bikers there are 12 miles of multi-purpose trails located east of the TR 229 and are open to equestrians.
A small nature center sits along the shores of the lake and is open on Saturday's from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The campgrounds are located at the far east end of the park. A 30 site family campground offers both electric and non-electric sites, an amphitheater, butterfly garden and rearing gazebo with easy access to several miles of trails.
Weekend activities, movies, and camp-outs are extremely popular filling up the campground on Holiday's and special events. A 30+ equestrian camp at the east end provides equestrian camping, the only one in Northwest Ohio. It too offers electric and nonelectric camping. Nature lovers frequent this park to enjoy the unique terrain, abundance of birds, wildlife and wildflowers. Naturalist programs and other park events are offered throughout the year. read more
