This place felt like Willy Wonka opened a milkshake bar for the Instagram generation…read more We stopped by Black Rock Dessert while looking for ice cream and instead found milkshakes on steroids. We ordered the Dust Storm: a vanilla milkshake with chocolate bits, topped with a giant blondie skewered dramatically on top, plus whipped cream, sprinkles, and chocolate drizzle. The rim of the jar was coated in marshmallow dip and graham cracker crumbs because apparently subtlety has left the chat. Honestly, the presentation was on point and exactly the kind of milkshake kids dream about. Which is why we ordered it. My tween declared it "the best milkshake I've ever seen in my life," and honestly, that alone made it worth the stop on our mother-daughter trip. Taste-wise, it leaned very sweet for me and didn't have a ton of flavor depth beyond sugar overload. But clearly the goal here is maximal fun and aesthetic, and they absolutely nailed that. It's basically a photo op you can drink. The shop itself was surprisingly quiet when we visited in the evening--we had the whole place to ourselves--but there were games to play while waiting for our order (we pulled out Pick Up Sticks, which transported me straight back to my 90s childhood living room). The ladies at the counter were also incredibly kind and patient explaining the menu and flavors to us. If you're looking for an over-the-top dessert experience your kids will talk about for days, this is your place.

Located in the center of the RED next door to Hub Coffee, this ice cream shop is going to be quite busy and was when I was there. They have a big selection of flavors that will please an entire crowd. Which also makes it difficult to choose just one. I guess there will be more visits to get through more flavors. Delicious ice cream sandwiches with fresh baked cookies and scoops of ice cream as well as waffle cones and kid sized cones with ice cream. The more impressive part of Lazy Sundae is their execution. Despite crowds, they expertly churned out ice cream sandwiches and ice cream scoops of multiple flavors (Blueberry, Strawberry, Vanilla Bean, Chocolate, Mint Chocolate, Birthday Cake) and numerous cookies (Snickerdoodle, Peanut Butter, Chocolate Chip). Our order: Snickerdoodle Cookie Sandwich with Vanilla Bean - super fresh cookie with a huge scoop of delicious vanilla bean ice cream. I'm not sure if they outsource or make their own ice cream but it's high quality. Super soft and fresh snickerdoodle Cookie. Peanut Butter Cookie Sandwich with Strawberry Ice Cream - huge chunks of strawberry and a very fresh peanut butter cookie. It's delicious! Mint Chocolate Chip with Waffle Cone - Surprisingly the ice cream looks almost like vanilla and has no trace of the radioactive green color you see in most store bought mint ice cream, but the mint flavor is strong and unmistakable as well as a perfect match for the delicious chocolate chips. Overall, I was super impressed with this ice cream truck. Quality was phenomenal and every flavor was superb. Highly recommended!
