I went to see if Molar 18 could be saved by a Root Canal but after taking the CBCT Scan ($200 out…read moreof pocket) and another bitewing PA X-Ray, Dr. Elizabeth Choybowski informed me that the tooth would not be a good candidate for a root canal. She began talking about TMJ which I have never had and made strong suggestions to see a specific TMJ specialist across the street. Actually, Dr. Chybowski should have suggested seeing an ENT (ears, noser and throat doctor) where they could make an accurate diagnosis and do the necessary accurate diagnostic tests and so forth. Also, TMJ is not covered by Medicare and most private employer sponsored health insurance. I appreciated the fact Dr. Chybowski was honest in telling me that my tooth would be better off being extracted which they do not handle. But I did want to speak with Dr. Choyboyski a bit further and she seemed very hurried and left. So I made my own appointment with an Oral Surgeon at Great Midwest Oral Surgery. I asked WI Endodontics-Mayfair to send the CBCT Scan as well as the PA Bitewing for that Molar to them. They did send the CBCT Scan but Greater Midwest Oral Surgery could not open the file and view the CBCT Scan. They also mentioned that they had three other patIents from WI Endodontic-Mayfair that CBCT Scans could not be opened/viewed. I called WI Endo back and told them that. All they could say was the Oral Surgeon's Office did not have the correct software to view this $200 CBCT Scan. No way was I going to pay another $200 for another CBCT at the Oral Surgeon's Office too. The Dr. Groeckermann, Oral Surgeon was kind enough to offer to do it for free given the circumstances. I did some research regarding this and found out in the State of WI, Endodontics are required to send the required software disc along with their CBCT Scan. WI Endodontic-Mayfair did not do this and attempted to place the blame on the Oral Surgeon's system. For the brief time actually speaking with Dr Chybowski and her insistence on TMJ referral, I cannot wholeheartedly recommend WI Endodontics-Mayfair nor Dr. Chybowski. It seems like the CBCT Scan is the money maker and referrals for TMJ aren't far behind. I also believe that Dr. Chybowski could see the amount of decay and placement within the Molar with the PA Bitewing....my own General Dentist could see this on her PA Bitewing of Molar 18. I just wanted to see if WI EndodonticsI could have done a root canal and saved the tooth, but it turned into another stressful, expensive nightmare for me.

My primary dentist referred me to Dr Fergus for a root canal - she did one for me in January and a second last week so yeah, lots of dental fun for me recently. I'd never had a root canal before and to say that I am terrified of doctors and anyone who might stick me with a needle is an understatement. Both Dr Fergus and everyone on staff here went out of their way to put me at ease even though I was a giant baby about the whole thing. And in truth - both root canals were painless. Even after, I really had no discomfort than an ibuprofen couldn't handle. They do offer nitrous gas and my advice is to DO THAT. It helped my overall anxiety and made the procedures way better for everyone involved. I'm finally pain free for the first time in a year (no joke) and I'm immensely grateful to Dr Fergus. If you need a root canal, she's the one you want doing it.

I chose them over my regular dentist for the root canal because they took my dental savings plan and it would be almost half the price of what it would be at my dentist with my dental insurance. After calling them and telling them exactly what plan I had, confirmed with the savings plan they were covered. I had the appt, paid cash after again talking to the person at the desk, the same amount she confirmed with the savings plan cost. Months later I get a bill for the remainder telling me that they don't take that savings plan, the desk person is no longer there and now its my problem to deal with. The new staff I talked to said I had maxed out my insurance which is a lie, its not even half used and I hadn't used it there and they didn't have my insurance info. Lesson learned, I guess I have to have the desk person put it writing that is what they are doing rather than take their word. Unfortunately, it soured me and I am not going back.

The dental assist was skilled, very kind and gentle. Dr Sharma was one of the nicest people I have dealt with in a long time. Very knowledgeable, humble, incredible bedside manner. Although he could have recommended, and I really wanted, a redo of the root canal performed by a general dentist many years ago, Dr Sharma was very firm, polite and apologetic that a redo would almost certainly fail, clearly gave the reasons why, explained his reasoning thoroughly using CT and plain xray images. He then arranged for oral surgery consult in my region. I traveled over 100 mikes to see him and it was well worth the trip. I most highly recommend Dr Sharma.

I was told that if I didn't want to do the paperwork until the day of my appointment I'd need to arrive 30 minutes before my scheduled time. My appointment was at 7:30am which is the time the office opens so I'm not sure how that would have all worked out. In the end, doing the required paperwork in advance is for the patient's benefit and it's always nice to know cost up front for anything dental (at least I think so). As for the appointment, I have to say I was genuinely impressed with the office. It's an up-to-date facility in an unassuming office building. I was greeted by a calming waterfall when the elevator doors opened, a friendly receptionist offered me water and the bathroom even had essential oil spray. Oh and there was an aquarium in the waiting room! The equipment used for scans was all very clean and felt state of the art. I saw Dr. Zielinski. I found him to be knowledgeable and straight forward. I will say he talks a lot so if you see him be sure to ask your questions and even ask him to clarify terms if you need to. They have a mini fridge available with waters in the waiting room and a coffee station. Once called back, the appointment felt rushed. I had imaging done and then had a 2-3 minute interaction with Dr. Max. There was no discussion of options, risks, etc. I was prescribed an antibiotic and told to schedule the next two appointments for root canal retreatment. I was a bit disoriented. I did as asked but eventually cancelled those two follow up appointments and scheduled with a different practice with more time for patient care and education.

(FYI, they do a temporary so that if there is a problem, they don't have to remove a permanent filling to address the problem) They told me to wait for 2 weeks to get the permanent fill, but I have to wait 3 weeks due to the possibility of jury duty during week 2.
