Another exemplary floral delivery. Not sure if I'm just getting lucky but I have never had any issues with Giffords. They are literally my go to florist in Portland. I've been using them for four years and I have had the best customer service and flowers delivered. I call in, give them my name, they pull up my account and I tell them a price point, confirm my recipient and card number and I am good to go. Sometimes I even put in special requests for an early morning delivery or no specific flower because the fragrance is too strong etc, and they do what they can. On a side note, I worked in the floral industry for over 15 years, and a good florist understands is sympathetic and empathetic and takes pride in their work. Florists are their for important days in your lives. Funerals, weddings, first dates, birthdays, anniversaries etc. And I back this florist 100 percent. You should too. read more

What can I say? I wanted to love this place so much! I love how they put their flowers out on the sidewalk during the day, the staff is friendly and has always been helpful, and their delivery was quick. So why three stars? In nearly every instance I've ordered flowers from Gifford's they've wilted and died within days (in some cases a day) of ordering them. The most recent example is this Valentines Day. I spent $60 on flowers hand picked by the florist herself. I basically told her what kind I liked, and she picked them. I purchased the flowers at about 4 PM and by 6 PM the next day they were wilting - 3 days later and they were all dead. Normally I'd chalk this up to a fluke, but this experience has happened a few times now with Gifford's Flowers. I really like the staff, location, and selection. If they could just get fresher flowers and lower their prices a bit, this would easily be a 5-star review. read more

I stopped at Gifford's today to buy flowers to take to a friend's house on Thanksgiving. I told the clerk what my budget was and asked what options I had within it. In the five minutes I was in the store we failed to communicate. I tried to be cooperative, but failed to satisfy her. No, she saying in response to every question I asked--no, no, no. Her colleague provided no additional clarification or assistance. It was an unpleasant experience and I left without making a purchase. I've bought plants and cut flowers here for the past few years I've lived in the neighborhood. The shop has a great inventory, but seems to be managed by staff who don't like customers or want to help them. What a shame. read more

She's a little picky when it comes to floral arrangements and I went through some time and effort learning exactly what she likes. I found Gifford's Flowers here on Yelp and liked what I read so I gave them a try. The person on the phone was very helpful and a great listener. She understood exactly what I wanted and gave me a range of price options. I ordered the flowers last Thursday for pickup on Tuesday morning around ten-thirty, gave her my credit card info, and that was that. I showed up closer to nine on Tuesday but the arrangement was ready and since I paid in advance I could leave immediately. The arrangement was exactly as described and was even protected from the weather with some plastic and cardboard. I walked down the street to deliver the arrangement. My sweetie loved it. Absolutely positively loved it. Every flower was one of her favorites, and they smelled wonderful together. All of her coworkers liked them, too. I will definitely be using Gifford's Flowers the next time I want to surprise my sweetie at work with flowers. I think you should too! read more

I'm pretty sure the gentleman who offered to help me with an arrangement wasn't a professional. He attempted to help me with my first selection of flowers but it wasn't quite coming together. I figured the problem was my selections, since I'm not a professional, so I told him to put together his own arrangement and I'd wait inside. The two ladies behind the register asked if I needed help and I told them that the gentleman outside was attempting to help me but that I didn't like the first try. They kinda shrugged it off, one walked away while the other proceeded to do stuff on the register. I'm just not used to such poor customer service these days so I went back outside because the over all feel was poor. When I saw the next arrangement the gentleman came up with, it was awful. I love that they open early on Saturdays. I live on the east coast and needed to order some flowers for my Grandmother in Portland on Mother's Day. I googled different flower shops in Portland but only Gifford's picked up the phone early Saturday morning Portland time. In addition to the great hours, the lady on the phone was also very patient in explaining to me the various pricing and designs. I feel like they really went above and beyond for their customers. The flowers were scheduled to be delivered on Sunday - and given that I placed the order on Saturday, that was reasonable. Gifford's actually delivered the flower on Saturday afternoon. In addition, because my grandmother is only young at heart, they agreed to provide notification once the flowers were delivered so I can make sure she gets them. Gifford's not only called and tried to leave a voicemail for my grandmother ("tried" since my granny doesn't know how to delete voicemail messages so her box is always full), they also emailed me afterwards to let me know the flowers were delivered and the voicemail inbox was full. In terms of design, I asked for Designer's Choice, and Gifford's did not disappoint. The flowers were beautiful - not the generic designs you see on the 1800 websites. My Portland family enjoyed the slightly edgy presentation - I heard it was a nice conversation piece. All and all great job, and thanks!! read more

Wonderful experience at Gifford's Flowers today. Picture this scenario: 1) It was the day of my two-year wedding anniversary. 2) I had nothing planned to give (i.e. a gift, make dinner, plans to take my wife out). Well, actually, you don't need to picture it - it happened to me today. I was walking to meet my wife for lunch (after quickly coming up with that idea and knowing she had some free time). However, we have lunch together about once a week... so lunch in and of itself wasn't anything special. Luckily, I walked by Gifford's Flowers on the way there. And they saved the day for me. While surveying their flower varieties, I was approached by a cheery worker who asked what I was looking for. I told her it was my two-year wedding anniversary and needed something around the $20 price range with my wife's wedding colors in mind. And the gal put together a bouquet that was exactly that. I walked into this classic looking florist, adequately hidden beneath a group of shady trees. Inside, I was greeted by two very friendly associates, one of whom helped me find exactly what I was looking for. I was looking for a Hawaiian flower that I could wear in my hair. Not only was I shown their beautiful and high quality array of fresh Hawaiian flowers, but the gal that helped me even helped me choose the perfect flower bulb to wear in my hair. Then, she took it upon herself to take my flower to the back and wire-wrap accordingly so that it could be pinned in my hair. While she was doing this, the other gal who worked there gave me a little tour of the store and showed me what flowers were in season! Pretty disappointed in Gifford's today. My husband has been ordering flowers from them for 7 years. I absolutely love every bouquet I've ever received, so much that we drive downtown to get them now that we've moved. We order the same thing every time, "a white, purple and blue bouquet, between $50-$60." They're large, beautiful bouquets every single time. The flowers always vary and require a huge vase, and often continue to bloom on the counter. I decided to order from Gifford's for my mom for Mother's Day this year, and sat in traffic to and from while i5 was closed just to get there. I was disappointed in the bouquet to say the least. It is significantly smaller than normal, and with much cheaper flowers (carnations) and some (white roses) even browning already. We likely won't be coming back. I get it, it's Mother's Day, but you should have the same standards holiday or not. Now on to look for a new flower shop. read more

I have always used Giffords for my floral needs. I used to live in Portland, but have been living in Dallas for the past 6 years. When I went to order Mother's Day flowers this year I could not remember the name of Giffords florist so I simply went online to Teleflora to place an order. I placed the order on the 11th of the month for Mother's Day delivery of the 14th. I received an email the morning of the 14th from Teleflora stating that they could not fulfill my order - needless to say, I was FURIOUS! I searched through my credit card statements from last year to figure out the Giffords florist name... I called them on Sunday morning 11 AM on MOTHER'S DAY and asked if they could help. Stopped here on a weekday morning & was kindly greeted outside upon walking up to the front door. Explained I was looking for 3 small bunches of delicate-looking flowers w/ filling to put on a reception table. Gal was super helpful, creative & quick! She pulled & created what would have taken me hours of envisioning. $20 for 3 beautiful small bunches that lasted over a week, filling would have lasted longer. Their shop has a wide selection of produce and lots of container options too. There was a beautiful Thanksgiving bouquet sitting on the counter that was breathtaking. Giffords Flowers was a floral life saver! We were referred to their business from our wedding coordinator and they did not disappoint. We had already booked a florist but did not learn until later on that they could not deliver the items to the venue and we actually had to pick up the flowers the night before. Since my husband and I were coming from out of state with limited assistance, this was not going to work well for us. Giffords Flowers was able to price match, deliver, setup, and even provided tips and suggestions for the selection of arrangements. Laura helped us to pick flowers that would work within our budget and be as close to the pictures we provided as possible. She even helped to steer us away from choices that had too much pollen and could stain our clothing. They were super affordable, helpful, and compassionate of our situation. What a a horrible experience! My family is in the floral business, so I know what to expect from a good florist. I went in here to grab a quick arrangement for my mother when she was in town, and I received horrible service! When I walked in the lady at the register completely dismissed me. I asked her for some help and her response was "well go find whatever flowers you mom likes." I then went up to another floral assistant and politely told her how no one seemed to want to help me, and this lady insisted she'd get to me "soon." She threw together an average arrangement that consisted of a few flowers off the floor. (Personally I could have thrown together a much better pick of flowers had I known she was only going to go on the floor, throw a few flowers together, and charge me 30bucks.) I was disappointed in the service and the arrangement. It was completely overpriced for what it was. There was a couple of Lilys and the rest was cheap leaves and fillers. So disappointing. I do not recommend going here. There are much better florist in Portland. Go somewhere where they want your business! read more

I have ordered flowers from Gifford's for years and have been satisfied but recently I have been unbelievably let down by the level of service and quality of product. First, my boyfriend went in to try and order me a Valentine's surprise and since we live together he wanted them to deliver them six blocks away to my office. When I received my flowers the day before Valentine's day he recounted for me the ridiculous run-around he was given and knowing what he spent and then seeing the small display that I was sent he was irrate. Not only were they not helpful in trying to help him in this surprise but it seemed that they threw something small together just to appease him. They told him that they were just too busy for him and that there was no way to have them delivered on Valentine's day. Again, I work literally down the street 6 blocks away, thus I got my flowers on the wrong day. Second, just to give them another opportunity I went down this past weekend to pick out a bouquet for my apartment. I spent $30 putting together an array of different flowers. Immediately after purchasing, I brought them to my apartment, trimmed them under water as recommended and put them in a vase with water and their plant food. In less than 24 hours the flowers were all wilting, the hydrangeas were dead, the calla lilies were brown around the edges and everything else just looked tired. This was the biggest waste of $30 of my life and I will not be buying flowers there ever again. read more
