Colibri is Latin for hummingbird. Colibri is a flower arranger, a houseplant shop, and a well-curated gift shop. The are the top designer and stylist with flowers in Portland. They have their bold flower ingredients in a glass front cooler with black walls and dramatic lighting. Their look book of arrangements is professionally photographed in a similar way. Many of their arrangements resemble the flowers in still life paintings. Their website and socials have many images. They are well respected by the Portland art world with many collaborations. I stopped in as they were hosting a sculpture show. Colibri was founded in 2017 by the late Naomi Pomeroy and her partner Kyle Webster. You will also find them around town teaching flower arranging. They are now in the Film Exchange Building taking a half block and filled with creative retail and offices. I was going to buy a sympathy plant online, but felt uneasy. I called Calibri. The woman who answered was patient and had a lot of ideas. I decided to go in person (great idea!). She had pulled a bunch of plant ideas for me. Also: there are awesome lifestyle magazines, cool ornaments and rad candles here. The floral arrangements available are stunning. I wanted to buy local and show my co worker that I truly cared. We even talked about how to ensure the plants were pet safe. I tend to over think social situations- Colibri helped me send a nice plant to a friend. Also: they have a gorgeous plant I want to buy for myself, maybe in January! This store is a jewel. read more

My husband and I were across the street for lunch at Grain & Gristle and I saw Colibri's storefront full of plants. I thought, "oooo, I love a good plant shop" but had never heard of it. As we sat for lunch and looked it up I saw it was a prominent chef's new venture. Definitely peaked my interest. After lunch we walked across the street to go in. Upon entering, it's quite lovely inside and there were people sat, one working on his laptop, and another group sat together and wine tasting (?). Immediately I was interested in a plant with beautiful foliage, lifted it, gave it a spin, no label, no price. In a nursery pot so I'm only assuming it was for sale. I continued to look around the shop, looking at plants. Some haphazardly labeled; some potted, some in nursery pots. Perhaps the plants potted aren't for sale, I'm not sure. I looked up to make eye contact with anyone in the store and did a few times, but was never greeted. I was in the store for a total of 10 minutes. In that amount of time, there were at least 3 plants I would have purchased if there was ANY TYPE of customer service, however, I still don't know who actually worked there. No one made any attempt to say hello, ask if I had any questions, direct me in anyway, even to say "that plant isn't for sale". ABSOLUTELY NONE. I'm extremely disappointed. I'm a chef, and in my opinion this couple should stick to an industry they're good at. read more

I have ordered flowers from Colibri on at least three occasions over the past six months, and each arrangement has been more amazing than the one before it. My wife, the recipient, is a gardener with a very green thumb, so when she is impressed by a floral arrangement, I take notice. Colibri is creative and artistic in ways that are hard to achieve. We used Colibri for our wedding flowers; we had boutonnieres, bouquets, corsages, and a hair comb made. Everything we received from Colibri was beautiful and exactly what we pictured. Bianca was amazing to work with -- she understood our vision right off the bat and was wonderful at making things work for our budget. Everyone I worked with at the shop was helpful and super friendly. I hung a few of the bouquets after the wedding -- they dried beautifully and I keep them in a vase on my dresser. I've been meaning to stop in and finally did today. I'm so glad I did! This shop is super cute with a selection of plants that isn't exactly the same as every other shop in town. They also have some great pottery and lovely florists! They were busy (day before Valentine's day) but not once did I feel ignored or forgotten about. My husband and I had a rather unorthodox wedding. We had the idea to make 3D printed vases as favors for our guests. We had Colibri do the flowers for each small bud vase. They turned out phenomenally. Bianca at Colibri took my aesthetic and the venue where our ceremony was into account, and thoughtfully created arrangements that felt entirely natural and beautiful in the space. Colibri also made us wearable flowers in the form of boutonnieres and flower crowns for special guests and us, the bride/groom. Everything was absolutely perfect. I recently took a workshop there and it was so fun! Bianca and Nelson were very friendly and there was an amazing supply of beautiful flowers. Besides the beautiful flowers, there was wine with cheese and crackers and sweets. I came home with a beautiful flower centerpiece for my table and newfound respect for florists.
