truly loved our experience here, to start it is a very humble interior so don't expect much as for seating when you go in. but the character and legacy is told in the intentional decor and the intentional hospitality. the wine was amazing, we did the tasting for $25 and was pleasantly suppressed at how good quality the wines were and how unique each blend was. the server went out of her way to give us recommendations on how she likes to enjoy the wine and give the backstory and history of each one she poured. it was a very intentional and heartfelt experience and you can tell they take pride in their work and want to share with others. we will definitely be back to buy more bottles and enjoy the company again. definitely take the time to slow down and savor this hidden gem! read more

Owner flat out lies about his winery, said vineyards surrounded his winery. It's in the middle of the city. The interior of the tasting room was fairly sparse, only saving grace was Dana, she's the only thing positive about this place. We visited recently and they had a band playing. The band played good music. When they finished playing for the day, a man that was playing in the band named Garth, thought it would be nice for him to come hit on my wife and I. We are an LGBTQ couple and we are not interested in men. He was drinking hard alcohol from a small bottle of whiskey in his shirt pocket and smelled heavy of booze. He continued to ask us both what we were doing later and wanted to take us out. His hair was oily and gross. We couldn't get him to leave us alone from the bar so we ended up closing our order and left. The lady working was Dana and she did nothing to tell this dirty man leave us alone. I can't believe this winery would employ this drunk guy to play in their winery. I'm not sure we will be back. Sad because the wine was great! read more

Great people, and the wine, of course, is super. They're very supportive of my daughter's high school. I called them to ask them if they would help with a fundraiser, and they immediately did so. Expect the idiosyncratic and quirky at Giessinger. Almost every varietal tasted there is not at all like the typical flavour profile of that in California or France or any other region for that matter. Having said that, the next rule of thumb for Giessinger is the French aphorism, "Chacun a son gout." or To each his own (taste). In a lot of ways, this winery is in its own alternate universe when it comes to the world of wine probably reflecting the values, tastes, & perception of taste by the wine owner/winemaker. I do admire a person who can stick to his principles, and not be deflected by the opinions & tastes of others. Interestingly, I went to a Pop-Up restaurant by a chef, who is himself rather quirky in his culinary style. The chef was kind enough to post a menu with cooking technique & ingredients listed so that I was able to discern what wine might pair with the cuisine. I took my Saint Emilion from Giessinger which is an organic white wine & is made from "a rare French varietal". Saint Emilion is in the French wine growing region of Bordeaux but produces only Merlot, Cabernet Franc, & Cabernet Sauvignon which are all red grape varietals and are not particularly rare. So is Saint Emilion by Giessinger made from white grapes outside St. Emilion but still in Bordeaux? Perhaps it is made from a Bordeaux white grape varietal such as Semillon, Muscadelle, Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche, Sauvignon Gris, or Colombard. Who knows? Giessinger Winery or at least its owner/winemaker is a mystery wrapped in a paradox, placed in a conundrum, locked into an enigma. Quite a few of the sweet dessert wines and ports are infused with other fruit or chocolate flavours so this might also be a bit unKosher for the wine purist. 3-- Yelp stars when one is in a forgiving mood. read more

Candy was an amazing bartender. Full of knowledge, and very personable!! The Symphony & Winter Raspberry was excellent! My guy really enjoyed the Petite Syrah. A wine tasting flight is $10 for 8. Candy is pretty generous, which was a nice change. I wish our travels had taken us back through Fillmore today, because I planned on picking up a few whites on my way home rather than attempt traveling with them. Definitely recommend dropping by. It's not the most beautiful, or impressive winery I've been too, but it was worth the stop. read more

I've been here twice and would come back more often if only they closed much later. I love this place because of the quiet and relaxed atmosphere. I've been to crowded popular wineries, and I much prefer Giessinger's chill vibe. $10 wine tasting is a steal. My host was very knowledgeable and even brought out chocolate, cheese and pretzels - educating me about wine pairing. My favorite was their dessert wine - Forgiveness. When I returned, I brought a couple of guests with me. We had a different host, who was not as chatty as the first one, but she was nice enough to let us sample honey which we loved just as much. This was the fourth time I have visited Giessinger Winery in Fillmore. I came with my sister from San Diego and college friend from New York. Let me just say that although my sister and I enjoy wine tasting, my New York friend barely drinks and "isn't that much into wine" by her own description. Shelby promised her she would have an enjoyable wine experience and, low-and-behold, after trying several of Giessinger's wines expertly paired with tasty nibbly things, she walked away proclaiming, "That was a really fun wine tasting!" And she bought a bottle to boot. The band playing 1960s and 1970s hits (only Sundays from 2-4 PM) was great and added to the atmosphere. This place is lovely. The Italian countryside style ambiance so cute. There was an event going on in the backyard the day we came, but they were still open for tastings for wanderers like ourselves. Janie was very friendly and knowledgeable about the wines, she was really fun to talk to and familiar with the Fillmore area. She even gave us ideas on what other adventures the town offers. Honestly we do wine tastings very regularly in the Santa Ynez area and this is just blah- wine is very average, either flat & boring, or too peppery. The only one I liked ok was the petite Syrah, the rest was uneventful. 5 of us went in, hoping for an hour or so of good wine tasting. 4 of us left disappointed. (One of us doesn't drink at all). All the wines tasted rancid. The labels were smudged as if they were old and tasted as much. We only saw our server open a Malbec and that was still undrinkable. Some of the wines taste half decent if you do the tasting. The biggest issue was taking a case of assorted wines home only to find that more than half of them were bad. I found many bottles leaking from the corks. There was no way to know this when I bought them because the foil covered the obvious failed corks. When I poured some of them out, chunks of black rotten material poured out. I am guessing it would put you in the hospital if you drank it. The taste was extremely foul. Sour, rotten, disgusting. I think this winery is a low end facility with poor bottling abilities. I should have known because there was at least one time the bartender opened up a bottle, tasted it first and said it wasn't good and dumped it. I should have known... I learned. My husband and I had such a great time. We stumbled upon this place a minute before it closed. They took us anymore for a flight of wines. Janie was very helpful and answered all of our questions and made sure we tried the wines that we liked. I'm more of a "desert wine" kinda gal and usually feel like wine tasting isn't for me. I've never enjoyed so much wine and bought a bottle for the first time! Great experience, great customer service, and love my bottle of wine. We have the Zinfandel Blanc, and also highly recommend the Forgiveness. read more

As a forewarning this winery is those who have the pallet for sweet dessert wines. Personally I prefer dry reds/whites, but that is not the reason for the 1 star. Service is decent, there was a small crowd but was they were attentive enough to check back frequently. No complaints there. There were instances where they wouldn't serve us a particular wine we had requested even though we were told at the beginning that we can choose any 8 out of the whole list. Their rationale, "Oh we would have to open a new bottle for that...let me give you another white instead..." Wine...the wine... rarely can you find fine wine that can be stored over a decade. And if there was one it would have to be stored in a carefully monitored cellar. The wine we were served dated from 2005 all the way back to 1999. Please take careful note of the date of this review. The labels were smudged as if they were once wet and dried. Hardly legible even up close. The conditions of these bottles hardly point to a storage discipline worthy of serving a 16 year old wine. The taste...to each their own. However, every wine we were served tasted rancid and we did not finish the flight. The final kicker was when we were served a 1999 bottle of wine. The server suggested we should grab a bottle as there was "only one bottle left". Left over bottle of rancid wine from a decade and a half ago for $29.99. No thank you. read more

Just stay away, they have cases stored in room temp which was around 75 degrees. And wine from their poor vintage that should have been thrown out the years they made them, ten years ago. Wow, just wow. It pains me to write a 1 star review for any winery, especially one that overall was very nice to me. But I cannot rate them any higher. I stopped in needing a wine made in Ventura or Malibu for a wine tasting event. I went here out of convenience because they were on my way to the get together. The place was empty and the lone staff member was there to take me through the wines of the day. It's $10 for a tasting, none of it refunded with purchase. We start off with a light white wine. Immediately I notice a problem. It tastes awful. I start to go through my mind thinking what I ate last and if it could be affecting my palate. Then we go through more white wines. All are terrible, some with notes of plastic, kerosine and even one with urine. We move on to a '02 chardonnay. It is a deep yellow color and this is quite old for an average chardonnay. The girl tells me this is because the grapes were left on the skins longer. Uh, no, that is not true. This is not a red wine. Such a dark color in a white is a clear sign of oxidation. Not something desirable. I find it interesting that another review noted this as well. Why are they still claiming this? We move through the reds, nothing too terrible but nothing that was really good. The desert wines were very amateurish, one had chocolate sauce added to it. Wow. I could not go to this get together empty handed so I bought a wine that was a blend of merlot and a white wine. It reminded me of Boone's Strawberry Hill and I hoped I could pass this off as a fun wine for a warm spring day. At $25, it was seriously overpriced. The get together involved some wine friends, including a winemaker. It was interesting to discuss this wine, we all had some good laughs when I told them things I had been told at Giessinger. We goofed around and added some petit sirah to the wine I bought, just to see if it helped but it did not. The wine I brought was the only one leftover, with about 3/4 of the wine left in the bottle at the end of the night. I see lots of reviews from first timers here. This is not wine tasting. If you are headed east, I highly recommend Pulchella Winery in Newhall. Headed west, hit Ojai Vineyards in Ojai or Four Brix in Ventura. These are real wineries. read more

I visited the winery a few years ago on vacation. I was on my way from my house to the beach and happened upon a cute little winery tucked away in a tiny Southern California town. The people were so friendly and very patient. I think we tried 10 wines, mostly reds with a sprinkling of whites. All their wines were very fruity, almost like new wines would taste. At the time of year it was very refreshing. I ended up buying a bottle of Forgiveness wine, saved it for about a year, and it was awesome when I opened it to drink. I stored it to their recommendations; it was in a clear bottle and needed to be kept cool. Most of their grapes are local from Southern California, but I think a few of the wines are made from grapes of Northern and Central California, too. They don't have an online ordering system, but you can send them an email or call them and they will ship your wine anywhere. Great for us people who live out of town. read more

After our little honey tasting adventure, we continued along the 126, passing assorted fruit stands and finally spotting a sign that said Wine Tasting 1 mile! Why not? So Martin made the death-defying right turn and off we went. The winery looked a bit desolate, but the train museum nearby was cool and offered some great photo ops. We were told that this location primarily does the processing and that there was another location in SB. it's a tiny little store, but they had a lot of local offerings. I tried the muscat canelli and it was pretty good but a little too sharp for my taste (it was like a sweetened chardonnay with that dryness at the end). The woman was really sweet though and she seemed to appreciate our company however brief. We might stop by again but definitely with a bigger group so it doesn't feel so empty and awkward. read more

White wines that are brown with vintages older that 2010 should not be served unless these are being stored properly in a cool environment and that being said true for the reds. This establishment stores their wine in a hot building. People, you are cooking your wine in the bottle. That's why the wine tastes like balsamic vinegar. The story behind the winemaker was that he stopped making wine after his son died and had not made it since. I felt sad about that so I bought two bottles. Yet after getting home, I felt extremely ill with a sour stomach and but refused to get a refund. read more

Been here 3 times with friends and family and have left completely satisfied. $8 for like 10+ wines....how can you go wrong!?!?! The owner, Rosie, is super sweet. Very friendly and will let you try wines that are not on the list...yes, just ask her. She'll pour you some. My favorite is Lady in Pink. TRY IT!!! Full disclosure: I'm not a wine drinker--really more of a craft beer lover. That being said, I'll give my review from that perspective and that alone. I really, really enjoy Giessinger in Fillmore. I'm sorry I don't remember her name but the lady normally there on Saturdays is wonderful. She's very attentive, extremely friendly and makes you feel right at home. They have a couple of tables and you can sit on the patio or the lawn, which I really enjoy. I go there quite often and bring my dog and she always brings water without having to ask--the lady, not my dog. To fully expose my ignorance of wine, I order the "sweeter white" and she always seems to know what I'm talking about. They do have a couple of beers on hand but none that I'm particularly fond of so I get the "sweet one." I'm not going to compare this to other wineries and the quality of their wine verses a Napa or French--as mentioned, it's not my goal. I'll only say this. It's a very friendly, relaxing place to go and they're pet friendly. If you're in the area, it's well worth stopping in. Maybe you like the wine, maybe you don't. But it's a great place nonetheless. read more

A friend and I met the Owner Edouard Giessinger many years ago at a large wine tasting event. My friend had the pleasure of going to his tasting room a couple years later and remarked how great the experience was. Yesterday I got to experience the Wine, Wit and Wisdom of this remarkable man. He had come tot he tasting room to fix something and ended up staying and serving a few folks that came by. Edouard was having so much fun introducing us to his wine and telling us great stories of his growth as a winemaker. Believe it or not it started out as a hobby and now 27 years later he makes some of the most amazing wines I have ever tasted and I've been drinking wine for a while. I travel into Santa Barbara to the wine tasting rooms there and in Solvang and nothing compares to his unique flavors. I hope whoever reads this stumbles in on a day when he is working. I recently visited this winery during the movie premier (Duece of Spades) - and was extremely disappointed. The first wine we tasted was a Chenin Blanc - it was ok - but from then on they got progressively worst. I don't even think we continued for our 11 pours. Imagine being told that the Chardonnay was a rich deep gold color (almost brown) because they left the skins on..... It was rancid as if the bottle turned (some do) but the gal just kept pouring down the line - and everyone threw it away! Needless to say, I'm saving my $$ for the wines in Malibu. After 10years spent tasting in Europe and CA, it was a good opportunity to sample the work of one wine make up! The wines have a lot of character so it is all down to personal taste. I read some of the negative reviews regarding this wine & they are wrong. Mr. Giessinger's wines are typically single grape. This takes a great deal of skill & knowledge to produce. Most people are accustomed to blends. I think you really have to appreciate the quirkiness & individuality of his wines to get it. Mr. Giessinger is a great host & my friend & I got to taste everything he produces. While not a white wine drinker, I thought the Sauvignon Blanc was delicious; dry with just the right amount of fruits. I am made for his Grenache (& I normally don't go for this grape).I also love his Cabernet Franc. If you can go here with an open mind & willing to have your palate educated, this will be a wonderful adventure. read more
