This sucker is huge. No doubt about that. You will find any food you can think of. The employees are kind and helpful. This is definitely a nice store, and clean along with being organized. Parking can be a challenge. Yet what I like is carts and baskets are easy to find. What I don't is Giant pricing. No they aren't "Whole Paycheck," but I tend to favor the German discounters more. This complaint is directed against the corporate office, not the local store, which offers the usual low quality of service and products, except the pharmacy, which is very good. I have tried to set up the app on my phone. I am told that my information is not recognized. I try a new account, and it states that the information is already in use. The corporate people were rude, stupid, lazy, incompetent, probably all of those or all. No resolution, and no one cared one jot. I am probably an ex-customer. I used to shop at Vienna's Giant in the 90s. Even after Whole Food opened nearby, we still shopped at Giant just because it is the closest grocery store to us and it has a lot more familiar selections than Whole Food back then. But we haven't shopped there for a long time for the past 10 years simply because Whole Food has better quality selections in everything. Every once a while if we need something quickly, we would do a quick run to Giant. But that's pretty much about it because the shopping experience is just not as good as Whole Food. Today, we need some dish washer detergent and I decided to go to Giant again to do another "quick run" to get what we need. I also get some napkins and other cleaning supplies. While I was checking out, the self-help machine accidentally scanned one of my item twice. So I asked one of the old employees there (I recognized him) to help me cancelled the extra charge. He was super rude and irritated being asked. He came over and I tried to explain what's going on. He quickly shut me off and said "I know I know" impatiently. So I told him I just tried to explain to him why I asked for his help. He pointed at the screen and said "I saw this, I knew you are double charged." Then angrily swipe his card canceled for me. But what if I did bought two of the same items and need different kind helps? Not only the quality of fresh food is declining, the store environment is declining, even the people who work there for a long time, their attitude and friendliness are also declining. I probably will still go there to shop, but only when it is absolutely necessary until such attitudes are not protected by union anymore. read more

In my experience this was an older giant, it hasn't been remodeled like many of the other stores I've come across. However, the store was quite clean for its age and was well stocked so the few items I needed they had and I was able to run in, grab them and be on my way. The bathroom was remodeled recently and was very clean. It's down aisle 17 through the double doors that look like they are for staff only but you will find a door with a lock that reads vacant or locked. This giant also sells beer and wine. On my way to the exit I glanced around the beer and wine section and their craft beer selection was quite nice for a grocery store, they had all the standard domestic beers cold and ready to go as well. Wine selection looked like it had much to offer but nothing too crazy jumped out at me. I think they could benefit from a "local wine and beer" section to make it easier for someone who doesn't know the area as well to get a quick chance to find something they haven't had before. read more

Every time I stop into this particular location I have a weird, off putting experience with one of the employees. To be clear- it's certainly not everyone who works there, but one lady is so strange and rude that I avoid shopping here- despite it being extremely close to where I live. To clarify, the employee I'm referring to is a short, older black woman with graying hair. She has attempted to bully and shame me into donating extra money during the holiday season, multiple times! A few years ago she went so far as to suggest I "don't care about the children". It was really rude and shocking. My husband wanted to report her to corporate. I hate the idea of people that may potentially just be having a bad day to their employers. However, in retrospect, I should have let him. Inappropriate comments aside, she also has very little concept of, or respect for, personal space. Ive been made extremely uncomfortable by her strange compulsion to stand so close to me that I could actually feel her breath on my skin. It became such a reoccurring experience, I was finally I finally felt it necessary to ask her to "please give me a little more personal space" Her reaction was creepy and hostile. Another customer in the self checkout bay asked her to come over to his register for assistance. She had the audacity to hold a finger up to the poor guy and say "no, I can't, I have to do this..." By "this" it appeared she meant continue to stand inches away from me and watch me uncomfortably scan my items. I was so uncomfortable, and by that point aghast at how she was treating the other customer and myself I finally broke down and asked her something along the lines of "What's your deal? why are you so fixated on me? Do you think I'm stealin? Why are you refusing to assist that man?" Her response was equally strange. A weird smile came over her face she said "Noooo! Of course not!" then proceeded to turn on her heal and finally help the poor man check out. Short story long, I highly recommend avoiding this giant location- and if you must run in to buy something- try to get a full service register bc the weird creepy woman is usually running the self checkout area. If you happen to see a short, graying elderly black lady running the sole full service register- go to the self checkout. If the full service register(s) has/have a line a mile long and you think it's her running the self checkout, customer service will let you pay at their counter as well. read more

When will this place go away? Lidl, Aldi please come to vienna. This place is a dump. Butcher has no clue what temperature to keep meat, I think the chicken is re frozen so many times it is tough as asphalt. Bag of whittled down carrots were mush, milk goes bad quickly. Average Giant store that seems to be on the older side but has all the usual features you'd expect at a grocery store such as a deli, bakery etc. It's in a huge shopping center so there's plenty of parking but I'm thinking getting in and out of the parking lot might be annoying when it's packed. Not my usual store and only stopped since I was in the area. I'd go back again if I was in the area but wouldn't make a special trip to shop here. read more

Yes, it's located in a busy plaza with inattentive drivers and you feel entitled to hazardous duty pay just walking to and from your car, but it's really a main artery of the community. Almost any time of year, you can see Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, school groups and other charities outside selling cookies or popcorn, raising money for their various good works from the generous people of Vienna. Going here reminds me that I'm part of a lovely community of beautiful, caring people. Although I seldom shop here, I have found this Giant is fantastically reliable for three things: 1-Always has pomegranate seeds when I need them for Middle Eastern dishes. 2-Has lovely floral department and gives a discount on arrangements when you bring your own vase. 3- Carries the kind of chicken fingers my kids like best and they're usually on sale. read more

This probably is one of the best grocery stores in Vienna when not shopping at Whole Foods. No wonder Safeway went out of business! New upgrades to the store with the organic section is nice. There were lots of empty check out stations and no one was coming so I was not obstructing anyone. Ridiculous and rude adhesion to a rule that clearly didn't make sense in that circumstance. I've been shopping at this Giant since moving to Vienna in 2005. Over the years I've noticed several interesting things. Over the years I've watched the trash cans move farther and farther away from the front door. Today, there are two. One almost at the extreme left of the entrance door near Branch Road SE, and the other almost to the front door of the next door CVS. I get it. If I worked there I'd probably get tired of emptying trash cans too. But moving them to the opposite ends of the store isn't a customer friendly solution. My other observation was the years ago installation of the self-checkout scanner kiosk. I loved this addition. You stopped, put in your customer number, and picked up a handy scanner and bags when they installed it. Then...the plastic bags disappeared. Then the kiosk got moved so its actually behind the entrance door and you have to make a hard left to find it. Then the reusable bags placed there in place of the plastic bags disappeared. I get it. You don't want folks to use to the self-check scanners. Maybe its time you got rid of it if you don't want to make it convenient for folks to use. But, the store is almost always spotlessly clean. With fresh produce available. Great meat selection. Good selection of dry goods. Easy parking. Easy checkout. Friendly staff. Great seafood. The Deli counter folks are awesome. Good and tasty prepared food at lunchtime and dinner. read more

Hate to insult a whole town but I don't think people here know any better. When you have a captive audience I guess you get away with bad business out of peoples necessity. In the ten years I've lived here I have tried to avoid this store but sometimes have no other choice. #1 NO grocery store should ever smell right when you walk in the door. #2 You should NEVER smell fish even around the seafood dept. #3 NEVER buy already cut lunch meat that has been sitting in a case that long! It always looks old! FACT: Boar's Head dropped this Giant a few years back and only agreed to let Giant carry their products again if Giant followed it's standard of cutting meat ONLY when someone orders it. I asked the Boar's Head Company myself! This Giant's excuse is that it's a high volume store......really? Go to a Wegmans sometime and see how a store with higher volume manages to run a store. read more

This location draws housewives who complain to the staff about me shouting from Tourettes, but the aisles are clean, the seafood has always been good and they have unique and also general products. It's never freezing cold, which is nice. The self checkout is usually pretty packed and the machines hate me, but I think that's just personal. read more

If you don't mind being charged more than the signs say, and you don't want any customer service when you discover that you have been mis-charged, then proceed IMMEDIATELY to this store. If you prefer to be treated kindly, then find another grocery store. I was at this store about 10 days ago. The bread I purchased was on sale for $3.49, but rang up at the regular price of $3.99. The checker just looked at me as if I were crazy, and told me "he just scans the stuff." When he called over a manager, there was no apology or acknowledgement of their mistake. "Give her the bread for $3.49" she says. It went on from there. I wrote to the customer service address on the website but got no response. No surprise. read more

I will continue to visit this store out of convenience, but it leaves much to be desired. Pros: full grocery store has pretty much everything, decent prices (if you have a frequent shoppers card), and friendly staff at the meat, deli, and fish counters. Cons: produce is hit or miss, the checkout lines are always under-staffed, half of the staff that are supposed to be working the front actually spend more time wandering around pretending to work than actually bagging groceries or helping customers. read more

What a dump. Aside from the organic section in the front, this place clearly hasn't received any attention in years. Like stepping into a grubby time warp, shopping here is anything but pleasurable. The produce section is frequently picked bare, and the vegetable selection isn't that great to start with. The aisles are narrow and the lighting is dim. Oh do you like rotisserie chicken? Well the dried-out dwarf birds for sale here will have you wishing Costco wasn't 20 minutes away. Also, the store inexplicably has this two aisle area in the middle that looks like Dollar General, so you can stock up on random junk Perfect for upscale Vienna! And then there's checkout, where you'll have your choice of two open lanes, each in competition for furthest from the exit doors. They used to take Apple Pay but obviously that was way too modern for Giant and those machines disappeared. Maybe next they'll move to cash only? Seriously, Giant corporate should be embarrassed by this crap hole. Perhaps they can take a drive to the nearest Harris Teeter and see what a modern grocery store looks like. read more

The customer service number is always busy, or unavailable. I sent over multiple emails, some up to four weeks ago, to report problems with the deliveries and they were never returned. Our last three deliveries had problems. Broken and missing eggs, cheese blocks with packaging cut through with a box cutter, missing items, rotten vegetables and invoices that were not correct. With every delivery, the milk cartons are never bagged and they are so crushed they will not stand up on their own. As a result we end up paying for food we have to discard and for items we never received. I am always happy to forgive mistakes but not having any possibility of speaking to customer service is not acceptable. read more

I shop here couple times a week and had a pleasant experience. They did a lot of new renovation and I feel like they hired new people? Possibly better management? Love getting my Salad fix here at the Salad bar. They've gotten quite good recently. I am sure they've been up-ing their game with all the competition going around in the area. I buy my grocery from this giant. I never had a problem with quality of produce I purchased. Store is clean and aisles are always stacked. They stand behind food they sell, I returned few items in the past, store manager apologized and refunded my money without asking any questions. This Giant has really good sale item weekly and i usually save up to %20 - %30 on my grocery bill. Also Giant has a deal with Shell that I can get discount on my gas depending on how much I spend on grocery. Fruits seems fresh, I do not buy a lot of fruit so I can not comment on fruit selection and quality. They have added an Organic section, which is a new trend. However all organic food and produce sold in any store have one thing in common. if you look at the label closely, the label says organic with an asterix. Out of all the tons of grocery stores in the area I've been to, there is something worth saying about this Giant... its just so awesome and all the food is presented in a way that makes it all tempting and yummy! The salad bar rivals that of Whole foods up the street for much less cost. For a healthy fresh lunch this is the best option: the deli selection and salad bar have a lot of variety. AND... They had a king crab leg special for 8.99 last week and I felt very lucky to have come in at just the right time for that. The legs were delish and not fishy the way some regular grocery seafood tastes too. read more

I have shopped at this Giant Food for years and never had any problem with the customer service or their products. This review is directly written for terrible customer service from one particular employee. This guy has Richard Tay on his name tag. I entered the store today around 9 pm wanted to get some groceries and also a birthday balloon for my daughter. I asked Richard for help to fill up the air for a helium balloon that I want to get. He said he will call someone that works at the flower shop to help. It was all fine up until this point. After 10 minutes of waiting with no help in sight, I asked Richard for help again since he was the only employee standing at the self-checkout not doing anything. He then told me the person is busy unloading in the back and could take some time. I told him I will be getting the groceries while waiting for the guy. 40 minutes later after I got everything else I needed I came back to Richard and he told me the guy is still busy and I may have to wait ONE HOUR. I politely asked more than twice maybe he can fill up the balloon instead. He refused to do it or asked for help while chatting to another guy about getting a drink sometime after work. I ended up asking another lady (Kim) working the night to help me with it. Kim was exceptionally helpful and goes above and beyond to get the job done. She had to help me while working the only register open for service while Richard just stands there and watch. Side story, I also asked Richard where are the brown rice and meatballs and he pointed me to the wrong aisles for both items. For the record, Richard, brown rice is at aisle 12 not 13. Meatball is at the frozen food section, not the meat department. I have seen this guy Richard working there for years, and he may need more training if he still doesn't know where the items are. read more

The self-service cash register system stinks! When you purchase an item that has an advertised coupon and scan the coupon, the computer voice says, "Savings, zero". To me or to any literate person, when you hear the words "Savings, zero", you think that the coupon did not give you any savings, right? But that's not how it works. The computer says something totally inaccurate just to punish the poor customer who tried to spare the human cashiers by going through the self-service line. I pressed the "help" key when the computer told me I did not achieve any savings by purchasing an item that had an advertised coupon. I then waited about 2 minutes for someone to see that there was a flashing light above the register, then walked over to the (alleged) "customer service" desk, where there was no human in sight. But there were two cashiers standing idle in the checkout lines so I asked one of them to help me. She just pointed over to her manager, who by that time had appeared in the self-service area (but was just standing there, not helping any customer and certainly not looking in the direction where I was standing with the flashing question mark). I then had to walk over to where he was standing to ask him for help. When i told him there was a problem with my coupon and the computer said "savings, zero", he acted like I was an idiot for thinking that meant the coupon didn't work. He said "It always says that!" and told me that the coupon still worked, but he acted like it was my fault for being such an idiot as to take what the computer said literally. He finally came over to the self-service cash register I was using and scanned the coupon again. Of course, it said "savings, zero" again but he just put the coupon into the slot. When the total came up, the amount I thought i should have saved was subtracted from my total. The whole point of the exercise is to make the customer feel like and idiot, and the attitude of the people who work there is that the customer is unreasonably bothering them by asking for their help. read more

Giant continues to go down the drain in customer service. As I was walking towards the line of carts in front of the store, I noticed the employee who was getting carts moving a cart from near the door back into the line of carts. As I approached, I told him I would take the cart. Instead of handing it over to me, he just pushed it against the other line of carts towards me and walked away. I was stunned but then I realized this was the young man who usually is the cashier who clearly does not want to work there. His facial expressions and lack of communication says it all - "my parents are making me work and I hate it". So back to my latest visit. After getting my groceries, I went into the line to check out. I thought the check out lady had been given bad news and was just really sad. But then I decided she also hated her job. No smile, no pleasantries, just staring off into the distance while she rang up my items. I paid with my debit card and wanted cash back. She asked how I wanted my cash back. I responded that I would like $20's. She handed me a $50 and some $10's. She did not mention not having $20's but just handed me the money and started on the next customer. Very strange and very unpleasant experience. Either Giant is a miserable place to work or they hirer the most unhappy people. Either way, Giant needs to step up its customer service and provide some training to its employees. There are too many other options already here or soon to be available. read more

It's just ok. They have what I need and the store is clean. The prices are sky high. The checkouts are understaffed. I've been going here 30 years and now I go to Whole Foods and Fresh Market half the time, like when I need produce. If I need paper products, health n beauty aids, canned or frozen foods, then I shop here for the selection. Giant has really gone downhill (uphill) in price and service. read more

The quality of this grocery store varies depending on the day of the week and whether it is a holiday or not. The one thing I can after having lived in the Vienna area for 2+ years and frequenting this Giant grocery store in particular is that the people are nice, but NEVER EVER EVER buy the sushi. I have tried the sushi on one of the good days and the bad (I like sushi), and it is a big mistake. The quality of the rice is soooo poor. The seafood in general isn't very high quality and neither is the meat or some of the produce. Some of the produce is good, but most of it is bad. I mainly go to this Giant for cheap frozen vegetables, bananas, apples, cucumbers, and the occasional slightly cheaper than whole foods stuff in the organics section. Otherwise, I don't shop here on regularity. read more

I shop at the Oakton Giant several times a week. It is a pleasant store and sometimes has good sales on wine, various products. It is much cheaper than Whole Foods on produce, but Whole Foods sometimes has some different high end food selections and some reasonably priced 360 items such as frozen spinach that is much better than Giant brands.. I was annoyed that Whole foods had milk gallons a dollar cheaper than Giant, but now the prices have converged. I like the Giant bakery but my family members prefer Whole Foods for (much more expensive) French Bread or Wegmans for similarly priced cakes. Overall, Wegmans may be a more satisfying store but it is far away, Giant seems quite competitive with Shoppers in fruits and vegetables and generally cheaper than Whole Foods for most but not all products, and usually not as cheap as Walmart. For some reason, the bananas at Giant seem to taste better and have a more varied selection of ripeness than Whole Foods, Walmart or Shoppers. Generally I have been disappointed in Giant store brands of various products - which are much cheaper than the big brand items. Generally the staff is pleasant and helpful. They have a few cashiers and a number of self service checkouts. Generally service is reasonably fast. It is the closest grocery store to me and I think it generally an excellent store with fairly reasonable prices. read more

I come here all the time so I have to review it. There's honestly not a TON to tell you if you've been to other Giant's in the area. However, I will tell you IT IS one of the better ones. The place is always clean, the workers are not rude, the produce and other items are fairly well stocked, they have an organic section, a hot food section, and a semi-prepared section, and they recently reconfigured and area which has a GREAT new selection of beer now. They don't have a pharmacy but there's a CVS literally the next store over and if I ever need to pick up a prescription, this Giant is a great place to kill your 20 minutes while you wait. Things that are NOT great include long lines sometimes, no free samples, and a barely average bakery section (good for me though so I don't eat myself silly on donuts, cakes, cookies, pastries, etc). read more

Went here today only because I was next door for something else. Worst decision ever. The lady who checked us out clearly has a strong dislike for children. My 8 year old was standing at the bagging wheel watching her bag and (GASP!) touched the wheel! The cashier had the audacity to touch my daughters arm and shoo her off while very sternly telling her to "stop touching that". When I confronted her about it and calmly asked her not to touch my child, she denied it and told me I needed to calm down. I was calm. So I kindly explained to her that I just don't appreciate people touching my children and she gets loud and bitchy and tells me I need to talk to her manager. Lol. Say what?! I told her no, I don't need a manager but as I'm saying it she storms off and leaves her station to find said manager. So I grab my receipt and start to leave because this was unnecessary confrontation going on, and here she comes with the manager who looks completely lost as to what to do as she proceeds to get in my face and yell at me and accuse me of cussing her out. I reminded her that there were witnesses to the incident and the manager sent her back to her register. The manager did apologized but too little too late. I will never go back to this Giant. So totally unprofessional. read more

Giant is notorious for carrying food that is past its date.. if you shop here- be careful.. the produce is hit or miss- selection is decent. The expansion has helped. I wasn't a Safeway fan but I'm hoping the new supermarket helps fill a void since we need more competition! read more
