Today Feb 18th on stopped at the Avon Lake store. I was thinking it was the 19 th and used their sales to purchase som extra large red Argentina shrimp that were on sale. Because it was the 18 th I did not receive the sale price of $9.98 ($4.99) per pound for the two pound package. I was heading out the door when I realized what happened. The price I paid was $19.98 not the $9.98. I went back to the teller who said to take it to customer service. The time was 12:35 pm and the counter was closed to 1 pm. I asked for a manager. The manager apologized but the person would be back at 1 pm. I could not wait because of another meeting I had. I said that is not good customer service, that someone in the store should be able to take the return. At 10 minutes to 1pm I had to leave with the item, and would return the next day. I understand someone taking a break, but there should be someone ( manager) should be able to help. I do not shop there very often and will do even less now. read more

I have been a customer of Giant for years. I trust them and when food delivery was initiated I was pleased. I have step by step directions to my apt. Lately it has been a lot better. My issue was getting them to deliver. Some just left without delivery just did not understand others have brought items I didn't order. I have trouble walking and was at first pleased. I hope we are on the right tract now because of the convenience. read more

I don't understand why Giant Eagle doesn't have the baskets anymore, but yet their competitor Heinen's does and has more stricter requirements there...it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. They also never have the small carts available as they're usually in the parking lot somewhere. Both of these options are needed because of the small aisles at this location, not to mention if you want to maintain the distancing requirement; the big cart takes up literally the whole aisle. Nevertheless, Giant Eagle is relatively cheaper than the competition in the area (not talking about the bigger chains (Walmart, Target, etc.)), plus you get the benefits through the advantage card, which hooks me to them, but I'd argue that other places have way better food. read more

Old hag with glasses from self checkout gets an attitude if she doesn't understand what you're saying to her. I told her that I am being over charged (paying tax) on bagged tea and don't know why, considering I have a SNAP card. She first told me that I may not have enough on my card because (typically that's the case). If I didn't have the money to get the items, I wouldn't be at the store from the beginning with. Then, I told her that I didn't get a receipt (cashier receipt) for the items, so I could take it to customer service, then gotten even more of an attitude and said (blinking heavily) you're not going to get a receipt if you didn't pay for the taxed items. She felt the need to tell another worker, like that's important to report. She is constantly watching me like I want to steal from this establishment, like she's top notch security. They need to hire actual security if they are that concerned about people stealing. I guarantee you she's not going to do much of anything to help solve any problems, if there was any. She checked my CVS bag with the necessities I need from them when I had a problem with self checkout, it kept saying a certain item not being rung up. I just want her to do what she is supposed to be doing and get out of my face without extra issues, as if I don't have enough problems outside of this headache initiated place.. She was the same nitwit that pointed to the sign at self checkout that it's 20 items or less at the single handed self checkout. I told her, had you opened up the belted checkout, I wouldn't be over here.. Lord of the Rings, Gollum as head manager eyeballing me as if I'm disturbing him and others. Blondie at customer service doesn't take small amounts of items at customer service help desk. But will allow others that'd come behind me seconds later and she said yes to them. read more

I decided to just write about this store after all the annoyances I've had to deal with this store over 5 years of needing to go here. I'll say it in a sentence- its only plus is it's well stocked liquor store- that's the only positive of this location. Even then, There are other liquor stores in town equally stocked so it doesn't even get 2 stars for that. Almost every single person there is rude, and not the rude as in "I'm a Karen and deserve to have my feet kissed when I walk in" I'm saying the cashier doesn't greet me when checking out, any time I use the service desk it's about the same deal. Everyone who works here looks like they are dying inside, I would blame corporate but I'm not in the know. The self checkout is the worst of any store I've ever seen. You need a card to begin with, so if you biked or otherwise don't have your car keys you have to wait in line for your 1-2 items. And the lines are just awful. For each time I waited in a giant eagle line I could write 2 of these reviews. Even the ****** ATM doesn't always work. I loathe any time I have to go to this store. I go out of my way to avoid it, and I've been telling my friends for years how unlikeable this place is. The prices are below par, this place won't do well for your wallet. read more

The only good thing I have to say about the Giant Eagle in Avon Lake is that most customers are finally taking mask-wearing seriously. Prior to the state mandate, there were many not wearing them, and worse, customers who loved to flaunt their independence and so-called freedom of choice to those of us trying to do our best during a difficult time. I witnessed one middle-aged awful woman harassing an elderly woman with a mask. It was disgusting. As if that's not bad enough, the self check-out areas are ALWAYS dirty. And if I ask for a paper towel and spray, I usually get an eye roll from some lazy-ass clerk. I was there today and it was the same - filthy. I only had 3 items and nothing that I had to weigh so I just did it. Then, at the end of the checkout lane, some idiot employee walks up no more than 2 feet from me to look at a bulletin board. When I said excuse me, he just glared at me and wouldn't move. I guess the manager hasn't informed them of the 6' distancing rule either. The employee could have easily stood back until I was finished. By contrast, the self check-out area at the new Meijer store in Avon is immaculate. They have a person there sanitizing every station after every use. And their employees are a lot more customer-oriented. It's expensive, but so is Giant Ripoff, and they're both about the same distance from where I live, so unless I need booze, I'll head to Meijer's from now on. p.s. I have talked to Jordan, the manager, about some of these things. He's always pleasant on the phone but nothing ever changes. Consistently disappointed in giant eagle but this one is the worst. The prices are shocking and the store is not as well maintained. It's obvious. I don't appreciate how the staff treats people as well. They seem very unhappy and generally disappointed in everything. Very different from other, better stores. I wanted to buy some honey ham that was on sale and the man at the deli said they were closed because of staffing yet he was standing there cutting lunch meat. I looked at the prepackaged offerings and all that was there was lunch meat that was in the $9 a pound range. When people come to the deli they usually buy the items that are on sale but there was none of those to be found. Maybe they were trying to get rid of the more expensive stuff but it seems a little dishonest to me. read more

I've become a regular at this Giant Eagle since moving to Avon. It's closer and less crowded than Westlake and I don't have to worry about getting shanked and mugged like I do at the Sheffield location. One little tip: go early on Sundays. By 2:00 their produce section is pretty much down to the bare minimum. read more

This grocery stores come along way it is completely redone. When I moved here a year ago it was a complete mess now it has become more of a pleasure to work through I continue to look forward too it's improvement. At 9:30 pm went to return a Digiorno pizza I bought earlier in the evening that had freezer burn, whose crust wasn't rising, and, it turned out,was 8 months past it sell by date, but still stocked on Giant Eagle shelves. Manager refused to give refund I requested. Said he couldn't because it was past 9pm He wanted to go over to the case with me to pick out another one. I refused, asking why would I trust a store that stocked an 8 month old item and didn't give me my money back immediately and told me to come back the next day? Why would I trust the product? When I first walked in the bag guy who packed my bags also told me to just get another one. This same bag guy had forgotten to even pack the pizza when I check out with only two bags of items. He packed my one green canvas bag so bad, I had to repack it before I went to the parking lot. They remodeled this Giant Eagle, but they didn't remodel-retrain it's horrible management. Especially it night crew. Had I not checked the date before I ate the pizza, and gotten food poisoning, I would have been calling a lawyer and local TV station consumer reporter instead. And they wonder why they're losing customers to the Heinens in Avon, even after their remodel. read more

I can't believe how much this store has degraded over the past 15 years. I think it must just be mismanaged because Westlake and Sheffield are fine. Avon Lake Giant has become a dirty Speedway. I'm surprised they don't sell roller food and slushies. Seriously, it has gotten so filthy. The produce is all bruised. The lunch meats last two days if your lucky. The meats are subpar. I stopped buying seafood years here ago. The displays in the isles and shoehorned in front of the check out lines cause so many frustrating traffic jams, and I have to wait at least 10-15 minimum to check out no matter what time of day or night I shop. It's become so bad. I have a family of 6 and spend $200-300/wk for groceries. That money is going to Heinens. None of the above problems happen there. Don't go at night. Long lines. Only one cash register open. I just got home from there. There were 13 people in line. 13... I guess the people stocking shelves aren't trained to work the cash registers. It gives you a pretty good idea about how much the managers care about their valued customers. Their prices are very high, too. Too bad Avon Lake only has one grocery store. They treat their customers like they are the only store in town. This wasn't the first time I have experienced this. I have been shopping at this location ( many stores) for 40 years. The last few years this store has declined to an all time low. Today, I opened two packs of ground chicken, and it smelled soooo bad. I took my receipt to customer service ( cringing when I saw the mean, unfriendly, non helpful woman who always works there). She rudely told me I should have brought the product in. I responded that I didn't think it wise to bring a bag of 2 pounds of reeking meat in to the store, but offered to go home and get it. The manager ( Joe) was not apologetic at all, and also admonished me for not bringing the stinking meat back. They did credit my card. It appeared no effort was made to check remaining stock of the product. This is not the first time something like this has happened. I refuse to buy any produce here anymore, because it is often rotten inside. Lately, their selections in almost every department are dwindling- like they aren't restocking. I do all my regular grocery shopping at Heinens, and stock up at Costco- but once in awhile out of convenience I end up here. I think that will end now. The store is dirty, the quality is poor, and most of the staff are rude and unhelpful. Other giant eagle stores in ohio are sooo much better. I don't think the Avon Lake store even cares if customers are happy. read more

Giant Eagle, at the corner of Lear & Walker Road, Wild Atlantic Salmon filets we're terrible. I was going to go to another store but ran out of time the late afternoon of 24 Dec 2018. I will not buy Farm Raised seafood after reading what the fish on the farms eat. I asked the seafood attendant what "Responsibly Farmed" meant but she she no idea. The wild caught salmon didn't appear to be fresh but since it was labeled as coming from, I guess, an exclusive island (don't remember the name) I asked the lady attendant if it was fresh, as it didn't look so to me. She relied "it's fresh - that's the way it looks from that island". Against my better judgement, I bought a pound and a half. It smelled ok at home but after broiling it with lots of butter and lemon, it had a very fishy taste. It ruined our Christmas Day meal. I don't know why, but the staff at this Giant Eagle seem to be miserable with a forced "may I help you" much of the time. Maybe poor management but not sure. read more

I have a hard time finding someone, so much for the fast self checkout. I said thank you and she just walked away. No "you're welcome" or sorry for the wait. I have had the same experience here. I used the self check out and the "cashier in waiting" was so rude. I only got a smile back from one employee in the entire store. No one willing to help and they look right at you while you are looking for something! Believe me, ANY position is replaceable and I think the uppers in charge should consider that here. If you have a job in customer service at least pretend to care while you are on duty! read more

I've only shopped here a handful of times, and every single time has been a disappointment. I keep telling myself, "oh next time it won't be so bad." When I moved to the area I had never been to a Giant Eagle store, and when I first shopped at this location it had a very strong foul odor near the produce. When I went to purchase my items I was asked for a giant eagle card and when I explained I was new here and didn't have one the employee rolled her eyes and said very rudely that I needed to go to customer service to get a card. Ever since then every time I go the customer service is the same rudeness. My last trip here I wasn't greeted at the cashier line, and I thanked the bagger twice and was ignored. I don't normally write reviews, but I felt this was needed as there really needs to be some improvement done since I will never shop here again. Shopped today at your AL store. NEVER AGAIN!! The store has remodeled... not sure why!! It is worse now than ever. The aisles are smaller and some "brainiac" has decided to put multiple larger than life displays in the aisles too... you really need to rethink this- can just about get two people up and down the aisle without getting dirty looks. I truly understand that it's a busy time of the year but to have to bag my own groceries since there is no one there to do it? Poor, poor management. It appears as though every time I shop I end up bagging my own groceries. If that is the case maybe a discount should be in place since the discounts you have now are horrible. Plus the aisles are so poorly organized, have to go from one end of the store to the other for soaps... Not a fan anymore.
