I shop here regularly because the only other option in this area is Walmart, which I hate and Apples, which is about 10 minutes further each away. I love the deli selection here and a lot of the Market District products. They also have a full state liquor store and a huge wine selection. I end up doing 80% of my grocery shopping here because it's the best option I have at the moment. However, it is very disappointing when I go there at 6:00 p.m. and cannot get a loaf of unsliced Italian bread! That seriously makes me a crazy person! I have no idea why they cannot just bake plenty of Italian bread if you know that you run out of it all the time! I'm also not crazy about the new store design! I'm having a terrible time finding what I need and I HATE the bread being in the first isle! I loved getting my bread and buns and dairy last! It just makes sense. On the positive, their produce is usually fresh and good. Their meat selection is also very good and I love their deli meats & cheeses. The beer cave and beer selection is also great, so this ends up being my grocery store of choice. It is a little pricey, but they have good sales and I'm only buying for 2 people, so that helps. read more

Very rude employee in bakery department when asking for help. Definitely should not be employed in customer service.

I went to the deli very early Sunday morning I know the weather was bad and they were probably short handed but the lady working there was very rude and nasty all I asked her for was a pound of bologna. She was mumbling to herself the whole time she waited on me . I worked in customer service for over 40 years and there is no excuse for that kind of attitude. I'm a regular customer and the reason I asked her for it was because there was none in the deli case out front. I was also the only one at the counter at the time at about 7:15 am. I just left and had the worst experience. Carmen, a worker was near the self checkout. clearly the two people in front needed help, their lights were flashing. when I asked Carmen if she could help them,she looked at me and said "did they ask for help". The cashiers are friendly, but for some idiotic reason the store decided to get rid of baggers. SMH so not only do you have to bag your own groceries the lines are longer because most people don't & the cashier has to ring & bag. It honestly makes me want to shop somewhere else. Giant Eagle is a good solid grocery store. I like the Amherst location. They have a great selection, friendly customer service and the store is always clean. I also love the gas and food perks programs. One of the best things about this Giant Eagle location is the fact that they have a fully stocked state store on premises. Gotta love being able to stock the liquor cabinet while buying my groceries!!! Giant Eagle also has a decent organic food section. My boyfriend is on a gluten-free (GF) diet and they have a pretty good selection of GF items available over in their GF section. They have a good variety of pastas, breakfast items, baking products and frozen meals that are certified as GF. I usually shop at Heinen's for most of my GF items, but lately Giant Eagle has been carrying more so I try to head there instead. My boyfriend enjoys the GF frozen meals because they are easy for him to take to work for lunch. The prices for the GF frozen meals are definitely more inexpensive at Giant Eagle...plus I can get gas perks. If you are looking for a good grocery store Giant Eagle is always one of the best in this area. I have especially found this to be true in regard to their gluten-free items. read more

For the pharmacy. I understand a customer-facing position can be hard but the rudeness of the technicians is astounding. Whomever was working 10/29/20 at the window at 9a was incredibly irritated and rude when I needed to update my insurance. Will be switching to Costco. I have already switched my grocery elsewhere and this was the final nail in the coffin of a once great supermarket. read more

The service here is terrible. The cashier Lily needs to re-evaluate her attitude. The self weigh machine was not working so it was best to go to the actual register rather than self check out. She then proceeds to say "or you could just weigh it yourself" as if she was speaking to herself. Mind you, the machine was down. She then continues to complain to the bagger on how tired she is working 6 days a week at 48 hours (I guarantee you aren't)... boo hoo hoo Lily. Find a better job and attitude. Every once in a while I'm forced to go here to grab something that I can't get at another store. The problem is that everything here is twice if not triple the price of what other places charge. I'm also not a fan of the layout of the store. Once you get past the produce section it all becomes very random so I end up backtracking ten different times just to find one thing that I need, and there's never anyone around to help. read more

I only shop there now due to proximity. Most of the time the cashiers are too involved in private conversations to acknowledge you're even there. Also, selection has gone way down. Things I have always gotten there now longer even have a space on the shelf. The produce is either under stocked or the selection is so damaged you don't want to buy it. read more

This is a big Giant Eagle and it has everything you can imagine. it usually takes me a while to find what I need though. And, almost every time I have ever gone here, the lines are so long and take forever to get through. even the self check out! I usually go in the evening after work. Terrible hiring policies, I have 10+ years retail experience I have done everything from stocking shelves, to running a register, I also do not have a criminal record, apparently they hire you base on your personality! I applied on line for the cashier position took the assessment then got an email a day later saying that I didn't match up to their criteria to be a cashier what a load of BS! I moved to Lorain in August of 2014, prior to that I did the majority of my food shopping at Giant Eagle. Since moving to Lorain I have visited the Amherst Giant Eagle on numerous occasions. Every visit gives me new reasons to shop at Walmart, Kmart, and Apples. The customer service is terrible, today I wanted to ask a question. A manager was talking to a customer, who was interrupted by and employee who couldn't seem to find her work assignment. The manger stopped talking to the customer(s) to deal with this issue, and spent more then a few minutes listening to the employee rather then taking care of his customers. I wanted to purchase some whole bean coffee and grind it, alas they have removed the grinder so you can no longer grind whole bean coffee. Why even sell it if you can't grind it. At 8:30am I went to the bakery to purchase a cake, to my surprise no one is working in the Bakery. Since there is no sign listing hours I assume it was suppose to be open. I left and returned my other purchases and went to the local bakery and purchased the cake and went to Walmart for the remainder of the items I needed. WITHOUT and issues and spending less money for the same products and a better cake. read more

Employees are horrible!!! They treat people who use coupons like they're thiefs!! They rather talk to their co workers then communicate with the customers, except if you're asking them something, then they act like you've insulted them...only go there if it's a must and possibly if theres a great sale....and its only in and out as fast as I can. read more

Just picked up a small birthday cake. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! First off the small container they put it in leaves no room for the cake. Half the frosting came off with the lid. Second, after looking at cakes in the case, we decided on different shades of blue. Husband brought it home, white frosting with one shade of blue. Looked like they just threw it together. More effort with the cakes in case. Will never order a cake again. read more
