Everyone at this family run business has been super professional, attentive, and accommodating. The installation crew are courteous and helpful, and always do a thorough job and clean-up. If I could give this company 0 stars I would -- here's. my story: I signed on with them months ago to re-cover a bunch of cushions & pillows for my house in Stinson Beach. I ordered several fabrics and sent a $1,500 deposit. Then ensued a series of delays. One fabric shipment was delayed, then another -- & so on. Whenever I called to get a progress report the person I was calling was " out in the field" and my call was not returned. The last time I called there was no answer so I left a message asking that my deposit be returned immediately & to forget the whole thing. The call & my deposit were never returned. read more

Unfortunately, I have the same review as Kay K, Jason P and Laurie R. We had used this company for years and they did great work. We placed an order in November of 2023, paid the deposit, and here we are September 2024 with no cushions. Kelly, has given us the run around since January 2024, claiming that Megan, the owners daughter was on maternity leave and that is why there is a delay, to the covers are done, to they didn't have the color, etc. The last straw was this Friday, when one of my colleagues got her on her cell, in which she said that she would drop the covers off. Texts went back and forth and the last one, she stated she was 10 minutes away, well, she never showed up - UNBELIEVABLE. We are pursuing a civil claim and have filed a report with the CSLB (for anyone else who wants to do so, their number is 1009023). It's one thing to collect a deposit and lose an order, it's quite another to blatantly lie consistently and constantly. Simply detestable. read more

They re covered our couch & made and installed the retractable awnings on the back of our house (now it's 10 degrees cooler in our house in the summer). I've used this company in the past, and they ultimately did acceptable work, however there were multiple delays. When it was finished, they failed to inform me that there was sales tax due. In trying to settle up, it took a week of calling to get someone on the phone to sort this out just to settle up what I owed THEM. I'm giving them one star because I've recently tried to contact them--phone, email, Facebook DM--about a duplicate order, but they don't appear to care to return calls/emails/messages. read more

I needed a replacement cover for a metal pergola in my yard. The local person I have used was no where to be found, but when I asked around Gianola's name came up several times. Lia and Dylan came out and took measurements and I had my estimate the next day. The work was done on time and delivered to my home. When I had difficulty installing the cover by myself, as it fit very tightly, Dylan and another helper came out and gave me the extra muscle and expertise that was needed to install the new cover. Good luck getting them to show up or pick up the phone. They came highly recommended by a retail furniture store we had purchased from. I had an appointment set to look at repairing our canvas covers and the guy (Dylan?) never showed up. No call, no email, nothing. So I called the following day to inquire and they said they couldn't believe he didn't show up and would get back with me by the end of the day to reschedule. They did not. In fact, I called back close to a dozen times and left messages trying to reschedule but never got anyone to pick up or return my calls. I suppose once they fail to show up and then know your number after you call so many times, they just refuse to pick up. Spend your time and money elsewhere. read more

Gianola Canvas installed an awning and a sail shade for us. They were very easy and professional to deal with, and with one slight exception the entire experience was top notch. We had some concerns about the sail shade blocking our view, so I designed a system where the shade and posts could easily be removed when we would rather have the view. Now, I know nothing about engineering or design or sail shades. But they looked at what I was thinking and then applied their expertise to make it work. The result was better than we expected, and we really appreciated their willingness to go outside the box and engineer something new to accommodate us. The one slight wrinkle was that they left a few scratches on our composite decking. But we were impressed that they immediately bought rubber boots for all their ladders and made that a company policy. That's the kind of vendor that I love to deal with. read more

Very hesitant after reading the single-star review, but met with Lia and saw her shop and that boosted my confidence. Was also referred to Lia by other shops that couldn't handle a job as large as mine. Our San Rafael home has a second story porch covered with a good size canopy (10' x 20'). I brought pictures and measurements to Lia at her shop (very cool shop down by the houseboats). We picked out the canvas and set a date. Her team came when they said they would to take down the old torn canopy and take professional measurements. They gave me an extra week to paint the house above the canopy and then they installed the new top. Looks great, fits perfect. Everything they said they would do they did, on time, on budget. So after that I used them again and their products and service have been exceptional. In fact, I will be using them in a few months as we move to a new location and will need several canvas covers. This is my very first "yelp" review. I selected Gianola Canvas March 16 2011 to completely replace all windows on the bridge and aft terrace area of my 40 foot Silverton 35 MY. I selected Gianola as they use Gore Tenara thread. Most shops use V-69 or V-92 thread as it is 7 times less expensive and does not last as long as Tenara!. Lia recommended O'Sea Vinyl windows and Makroan polycarbonate in the stern aft window. For several years we enjoyed the clarity and craftsmanship and shared the 'Gianola' name with other boaters. Their logo and phone number is on the canvas for all to see that walk by. Then the bridge vinyl windows began to lose clarity... the seas and seascape were like a Monet impressionistic painting and with time I was unable to pilot the vessel in a safe manner in San Francisco Bay. However, the lower aft windows maintained their clarity. Why? Last year Lia bordered the vessel and she concluded that a left over inferior vinyl product must have been accidentally used on the bridge! windows. Lia agreed to replace the bridge windows. Whomever performed the work was either not from Gianola or was unsupervised as the craftsmanship was not even close to the original work. The Helm Bridge zipper was placed 5 inches above where it belonged, directly in line of the skipper's site. The installer also forgot to place attachments to keep the window as designed previously. I requested that this one window be remade and that I would acquiesce and accept the other work even though it did not match the other windows from the interior. A call from a Gianola representative yesterday at 4:02pm said I was lucky to have the repair work done and they lost a lot of money because of me. Gianola cancelled two visits to view their work stating that it cost them too much money to send Ken out. When issues like this arise it is easier for businesses to do the right thing from the get go, rather than try to wear the client out and hope they go away. In the past before "Yelp" that have might worked. Social media and technology have actually given the consumer better leverage in these matters without going to court to settle differences. Should Gianola correct the one window I will amend the letter to reflect their efforts on my behalf instead of acting on their behalf. I give them 5 stars for the original work and "0" stars for the way the handle their mistakes for an average of 3 stars. read more

I have been using Gianola's for years, but not anymore. I ordered a sail cover and deck bag for my inflatable last April. I put a deposit down and the job was supposed to be filled in a month. Now it's September, and all I've received are excuses why Kenneth hasn't come by and taken the final measurements for the cover. Almost five months has passed and not even a deck bag. A couple of weeks ago I made an appointment for him to meet me at the boat and he never showed up. No one called or emailed me he wasn't coming either.
