    Liz's birthday tiramisu. Delicious!
    Ken O.

Gianna's Café truly made my aunt's 88th birthday celebration a night to remember. The food, beverages, and ambiance were all exceptional -- every dish was beautifully prepared and full of flavor. Our server, Angelena, was absolutely spectacular -- warm, attentive, and genuinely thoughtful throughout the evening. The highlight was when the staff surprised my aunt with a lighted candle in a generous slice of tiramisu. Her smile said it all as we sang "Happy Birthday" and captured the moment in photos. It was the perfect evening from start to finish, and we'll definitely be back soon.

We stopped by Gianni's for lunch. It was a really nice day outside so we sat in the outdoor patio area. I like the cheese/basil/olive oil with the bread starter. It's a lot of cheese with fresh basil, so you get that aromatic from the basil. I had the branzino prepared in the Mediterranean style. The fish was seasoned and cooked well. There were a few bones in the fish though. The baby spinach and roasted tomato were good, but the potatoes were a little hard for me. We also go the linguine possilippo. There was a decent amount of clams and mussels in there. We did the white sauce for it. The pasta was cooked Al dente and the sauce coated the noodles well. Overall, it was a good dish. We also got the side of Italian sausage. The sausage was really dry and over cooked. The tomato sauce helped a little bit. It was also a little salty too.

Restaurant is located in a trip mall. Parking is easy to find. Reservation is highly recommended since place is pretty small. Food was great. It was probably one of the best linguine with clams that I ever had. All other dishes were good too. Service was ok. Waiter wasn't too attentive but looked like he was overly busy. Overall it was a great experience.

We had heard they were busy, many times with wait times. So we were surprised. The ambiance is really nice, A really nice Italian dinner restaurant. I started with an Old Fashioned and it was one of the better ones I have had. They really nailed it. There are a couple on their menu so I was sure to say "not the one with soda/selter". That a Wisconsin one :) We asked if the Caesar was large enough to split to start. They said yes. Great. There were 3 tables filled so it was finally not empty. Not sure why the bar seating was empty- looked like a great place to sit too. After ten minutes we gave our order, Chicken Piccata for my wife and I had the Pork Chop special. The waiter didn't come by and we didn't get our salad. He was busy making drinks for one larger party (the 4th table). Finally our entree's came. I asked what happened to our salad. He looked confused. I reminded him we asked if it was large enough to split and we would start with it. He was genuinely sorry. It happens. Then we ate the entree's. My wife's Chicken was flavorful and served hot. It was very good. My pork chop was closer to room temp rather than hot. The flavor was really good. Unfortunately I have a thing about eating my food hot, not on the cold side. I told the waiter. He was sorry and asked if he could have them heat it up. I passed .... Didn't want dryer food while my wife ate alone. The manager came over and insisted it didn't sit at the window. Not sure WHY he wanted to argue this point. I offered the plate so he could taste or even feel the dish at that point. He seemed genuinely wanting to help, but he didn't need to make us feel like we were wrong. Again - not the end of the world. So why 3 stars? My wife's food was great. The taste of mine was good. They didn't charge us for my dinner. Their Old Fashioned was out of this world (ask Omar to make it). The truth is we want to try it again and see if this was a glitch. If it wasn't a glitch, it's why they weren't packed on a Friday night.

The first tricky part is finding the entrance because it's not really obvious as expected in long grove There's no real signs. Once I managed to find a door to the place, it turned out to be the back door and so I had to climb up a bunch of stairs in order to get to the front part of the restaurant to actually check in for the reservation. And yes, please make a reservation. This place does get packed even for early times. The service was really friendly and very nice however, I will say overall the food was OK but nothing really standoffish. For example, if you look at the pictures of the food quite bluntly it just looks like they slapped food onto a plate. There's really no thought that's been put into the presentation. There's really been no thought also to just the pure amounts of cheese and sauce that are also creating a swimming pool on the plate. We ordered the grilled octopus for appetizer and even that was swimming in olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette and too much of everything I think the food is OK but nothing fantastic. Considering the overly saturated Chicagoland market of Italian restaurants I wouldn't necessarily say this was at the top of my list.

We ordered whipped goat cheese, arancini and fried artichokes in addition to some HH red wine. There were multiple wines that were offered versus just one red/white- which was appreciated. Our server was prompt and stopped by throughout the meal without being intrusive. I appreciated the table clean up service in between our meal and dessert as this isn't very common. All of the food was delicious and was delivered fairly quickly. I would have liked the whipped goat cheese to be a bit firmer to be easier to eat with the provided lavish. The arancini was perfection - lightly crispy filled with creamy risotto that still had texture. I was surprised that the HH arancini portion was smaller than the regular menu portion (2 vs 3) as this was different than their IG post. The fried artichokes are served with a lemon aioli that is spread at the bottom of the plate but would have been better served on the side since it gave a nice citrus perk. As we were celebrating an occasion, we were treated to cannoli and they were some of the best I've had. All in all- I'm really glad there's a new happy hour addition to the Arboretum and looking forward to the menu continuing to evolve.
