It's so much fun here on weekends. I believe they have belly dancing on Fridays. We came on Sunday night, and there was a live performance with a saxophonist and a singer. They also have a dance floor, and many people were enjoying themselves. The food, like hinkali, was so-so; there's definitely room for improvement. The dough for hachapuri was too thick. Tonight we had the pleasure of dining at ARAGVI Restaurant in Palatine Il. It is a Georgian style with amazing food. It is beautifully decorative and the food is wonderful. We had dumplings. Eggplant rolls, cheese bread and wine for appetizers. There was live music and the owner was extremely helpful and helped to make our evening special and enjoyable. We also had delicious entrees of chicken kebabs and baklava and honey cake for dessert. The ambiance is very pleasing. We can't wait for a return visit. Try it for a wonderful experience. read more

If you are adventurous and want to try something different,this is the place to go. We were invited to attend a group event of over 75 people to experience the flavors of Georgia and Armenia. The food was flavorful and served hot..all made fresh with most ingredients imported. Started with cold appetizers,then hot appetizers,a few local favorite entrees all served with local wines. I never had Georgian food before, so we came here with zero expectations. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and much larger than you would think. I think they have live music and dancing later in the evening. The servers were attentive and provided any guidance you needed. We loved the eggplant rolls with its nutty flavor. The khinkali's were also quite nice. My favorite was the mushroom one vs the potato/cheese. The kachapuri is both of our faves!! It's soo rich and yummy. We took the leftovers home and reheated it, and it was still as yummy as the night before. The churchkhela is different. The first bite may taste strange, but for some reason I couldn't stop eating and ate like 4 or 5. Overall, I definitely recommend anyone wanting to try something different. P.S. I felt so fortunate to experience this authentic Georgian feast with a group. Our evening started with cold appetizers, wine and assorted flavored sparkling water beverages. Next came several hot appetizers and then the main course items. Finally dessert was served buffet style and all the while a saxophonist entertained us. The staff was great at providing explanations of the dishes and highlighting their traditions. This is a culture I have never experienced before and I highly recommend making reservations and going with a group to be dazzled. Note that on weekends a dress code is enforced. Service- great, our waiter was patient and attentive. Room- don't recommend going in the summer, they said air was on, we were dripping sweat and using menus as fans, did not expect this. Made for a miserable night. Musics - not live like other restaurants, one guy as DJ planning off his computer. Once people started ordering music with $, it became pretty good. One of my favorite restaurants in the Chicago suburbs. I have eaten there about 4 times and I love it every time. I didn't know what Georgian food was until I tried it, wow! The food is fresh, the staff told me that everything is made from scratch. We loved the bread with cheese and egg, the dumplings with beef, the skewers. Amazing food. The bar served very nice wine too. Service was excellent. Highly recommend, prices were so reasonable. I wish this place were in Chicago. read more

HORRIBLE RESTAURANT!!!! On Saturday we celebrated a corporate party with a limit of $150 per person. So I'll tell you, this is the cheapest and worst place to celebrate. The portions are not just small, but so small that there was nothing to eat. We waited about 2 hours for hot dishes!!!! 2 hours before ordering and they knew what was supposed to be on the table. They didn't have time! But this can't happen in a restaurant... they brought the bread for 15 minutes and it was COLD! Completely cold and hard!!!!!!! The dishes were served without utensils, that is, everyone had to take a piece with their own utensils... The food was salty. When they brought the fruit, the strawberries were ROTTEN! They replaced it and it was ROTTEN again! And when I called the manager, after 10 minutes she was waiting for me at the bar!!!!! The manager waits for her to come when I complain!!!!! She can't get up and come! No one cleaned the table until we gave it to them ourselves. You also have to go "to the bar" to pay because they can't come!!!! My cousin invited me for a lunch to celebrate my birthday on a weekday. The place is nicely decorated, white linens. Very good service, which is exception nowadays. Food is delicious and in decent portions. Kirill and Jessica took great care, were attentive and cheerful, and thoughtful - Kirill brought a piece of delicious Napoleon when heard that it's my BD. This place was high on our list. We drove over an hour, eagerly awaiting cuisine that I grew up with. had to wait for the host to greet us over 5 minutes. Reception area was empty. Had to ask someone at the bar to be seated. Disappointment continued with poor service (waitress was not attentive), and mediocre food. This was some of the most bland food I have had in a long time. Khachapuri was nothing short of a tasteless, thick pizza, with door resembling a doughnut. Khinkali - subpar. Kharcho - felt like a can version of a cheap supermarket beef stew. Beyond disappointed. A very unique restaurant, the food was delicious. The waiters were wearing their traditional uniforms, which my Russian friend told me used to hold bullets in the old days. The beef stew was tender and tasty, but the lamb was not as good. Other appetizers were very yummy, and the dessert was super good. They have a nice seating area, and they even have a live band during the weekend. I heard that they are very busy during weekends and you need to make reservations in advance. read more

Yesterday, Sunday afternoon, me, my wife, and son sopped here for lunch. It was late afternoon, and the place was not busy at all. There were two small groups in the restaurant dining. We were greeted by a hostess and shown to our table. As we set down, we were given our menus, and I noticed that there was a group of 4 or 5 young people, who had to be waiters, chatting in the back. So, as we are patiently waiting for anyone to come up, my wife had time to go to the bathroom and come back, I had time to take my son to the bathroom and come back. All the while the group of waiters continues to chat, glancing at us for a moment and than looking away. I would stare at them to make sure they see me and they see me see them. That went on for over 15 minutes. At some point I noticed the hostess walk into the room and get on a walkie talkie as she looked at that group of waiters and gestured towards our table. Still, nobody came. I walked up to her and asked if we there at an inconvenient time. She was nice and apologetic and promised that someone was coming. We were pretty hungry, and getting impatient. But she made it pretty obvious that she has already done all she could and told the wait staff to come and take our order. Mind you, no water yet, nothing at all. No contact or greeting yet. I looked back at the place where the waiters were chatting, and saw that they all went even further into the kitchen but they clearly saw us and their own coworker gesturing to any one of them to come and start the process. She apologized again, and promised that some one was coming, but that wasn't happening. So we started getting dressed to leave. Someone did come out of the back, but not for us, rather to come and clean up after a group that had recently left their table after eating. It was pretty obvious that if it takes well over 15 minutes to even acknowledge us, it would take a very long time to get out food, drinks, check, etc. Mind you, this is not an inexpensive place. Its also not that amazing in terms of food. My wife and I both love Georgian food, the place is near our home, so we decided to try it again after a pretty mediocre experience we had here before. Obviously, we wont be coming back again. Georgian culture is famous for its hospitality. And that is the very opposite of how we were treated. And I cant imagine why. Of course places like this are pretty popular and not very unique. On Dundee road alone there are three Georgian restaurants, so we drove to another one of them, where we received exceptional service, delicious food with enough to take home for next day lunch to work. Our check for food before tax and tip was a $100. The same amount or more would have been spent at Aragvi if their wait staff wasn't so dismissive of guests in an almost empty restaurant with ample staff. The moral of this story is that when you have second best shish kebobs in your strip mall, the third best Georgian food on Dundee Road, when you have a $5 coke on your menu, you may want to train your wait staff all that famous Georgian hospitality. read more

Went to Aragvi restaurant with my Cuban friend yesterday; I wanted to impress him with Georgian food and hospitality. He was so impressed, he couldn't stop talking about it all evening long! The food we ordered was so fresh and delicious, we could tell it came to our table right after it was prepared or just taken out of the oven. Shish kabob melted in my mouth, lamb stew was still bubbling! And, as cherry on the top to finish off the perfect meal, were Turkish coffee and soft Armenian brandy with coffee flavor! We could also hear the live music band playing famous hits from 80's, 90' and modern coming from next room, what a delight! Yesterday was one of those experiences my friend and I will cherish for a long time; hat off to the master of the kitchen and to the owner. From the bottom of my heart - big thank you! What a disappointment. Never been here and was exited to try it. Things went south right off the bat. Was greeted by a cold and unsmiling hostess. Asked for a reservation which we did not have because i had called a few days earlier to get one and was told I didn't need one. She said reservations are required on a Saturday night. Once again I told her that her staff had said we didn't need one and that we could sit at the deserted bar if we wanted. After a bit of insistence she finally relented and we were seated in what seemed to be a private party room that was full of other guests celebrating their birthday. We almost felt like we were intruding feeling like party crashers. There were 3 tables on the side of the room and we were seated here. Our server came by promptly and we were taken care of. Unlike the hostess icy treatment, server was polite and friendly. Ambiance was severely lacking. Lights were bright and background music was non existent. We were informed that live entertainment would start later but we wouldn't be able to listen to it because this party room was segregated from the main and nicer dining area where there was a stage for the performers. Food was great. As a non-european used to more complex dishes the food was simple but good. My Ukranian date enjoyed the food and service but not the overall ambience. She stated that this restaurant was in the style of the Soviet era, elegant but simple. As we left we saw another table by the bar area and surmised that they were also without reservations. Seems these tables on the sidelines are for unfortunate guests without reservations. Bar was also bright lit and deserted. All the action was in the main dining room, full of ambiance and energy. We felt like we were at the sidelines at the big game. I would not recommend this place. Seems like they need to train their staff better. When the staff doesn't know simple policies as to guest accommodations. What is missing is pretty basic in a restaurant. Ambiance, friendliness and placement of all guests is important. read more
