Had another great meal at Gia Kiem tonight!
Friday's special is the hu tieu nam vang (pork & prawn clear noodles), which I got the dry version with the soup being served on the side. The soup had two large pieces of pork bone with lots of meat on them. Normally when I eat this at other restaurants, the soup has just the broth, so we were pleasantly surprised! The noodles are tossed in their house soy sauce, which was delicious! I would say it was better than the ones I've had in Sacramento and San Jose.
Hubs wanted to try the dry version of pho ga and got the dac biet, which comes with the addition of chicken offal and pork paste. He said it was really good and the offal was prepared well. His side soup came with two pork ball paste. I tried his broth and it was delicious. The pork paste was soft, tender and had a great bouncy texture.
For drinks, hubs went with his favourite iced viet coffee and I decided to try something new. I got the kumquat iced tea with salted plum. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed it! It had a great balance of sweet, sour and salty. There were a couple of salted plums in it, fresh kumquat and jelly. I would definitely get it again. They told me that this is made daily so it's always available!
Can't wait to try their other dishes next time! read more
