Number 24. Medium rare beef and beef balls rice noodle soup
Jennyfer A.

This place is small but BOY DOES THE PHO SOUPS ROCK HERE! My friend and I ordered soups and we both loved our choices. He had number 24, the medium rare beef & beef ball rice noodle soup. I chose number 32, the deluxe seafood rice & egg noodle soup. The waitress didn't really speak English so she didn't fully understand me when I told her I wanted number 32 with seafood only because I was not sure if there were other meats in it. When my soup came to me it was definitely full of seafood but without the rice and egg. But honestly it doesn't matter because this seafood pho soup had a ton of seafood items and delicious white noodles! I love how much stuff this meal has. I've been to other Vietnamese places that have more expensive soups but not a lot of noodles in them which is sad. While my friend and I waited for our soups I tried the Plum Juice Nhu restaurant has. This plum drink I think is pretty much made from real plums. At the bottom of the drink there are plum seeds. The taste is so different and unique. It's sweet and salty and a little tad bit sour. I wish I could order it in a large fountain drink style, it's that yummy! I'll surely be back to try more soups :)

Satay Well Done Beef Rice Noodle Soup

+.5 for service I personally found this place just okay, not the best pho place I went to in Winnipeg unfortunately. Came here after hearing some excellent reviews on Nhu Quynh, to the point that it rivals Pho Hoang and Pho Kim Tuong (the latter being one of my favs in the city). First thing I noticed however was that the menu isn't as extensive as the other two places...which could be a good thing if the quality was there. I had the satay beef noodle soup. The food came out pretty quick, which I really liked. The broth looked and tasted very filling, however I can tell the noodles were not good. They were either undercooked or not of high quality, as the noodles were more crunchy than silky smooth. The beef was good, which somewhat made up for the disappointment in the noodles. Service was very good. For $8+tax it is on the lower end of the price scale, hence why I gave it 3.5 stars. However this place is a case of "you get what you pay for", especially given the pho competition in this city.

Bun Bo Hue

The Bun Bo Hue is a must if you can tolerate a little bit of heat! There was a bountiful amount of tender beef, and had just the right proportion of meat to noodles to spices to onions. The broth was delicious and not too salty. The fried spring rolls were crispy and mouthwatering, too! They're an excellent value at $6.25 for 6 rolls! The regular beef pho tasted fine, but the broth was a little bit on the sweet side. I would highly recommend this place for the BBH and spring rolls!

This place has changed. My last visit was a year ago. Just visited today and food quality and menu…read morehave changed. They seemed to have a new owner. Its no longer authentic. Ordered chicken salad wrap. Instead of using grilled chicken, they used packaged chicken breast chunks. Ordered lemongrass chicken platter. Instead of properly grilled lemongrass chicken meat, they served a large chicken leg with bone. Fish sauce has no flavour. Will not visit again!

I ordered the salad rolls with pork and shrimp...structurally very substantial in size and full of stuff. One could just order a few of these and have a nice filling meal. That said, the peanut sauce wasn't particularly creamy or pea-nutty. The pho is served in a moderately size bowl, but they didn't offer a lot of sprouts or basil. The salad roll had basil as a garnish and I put them into the pho. Also, there wasn't a lot of depth of flavor in the soup base itself...it wasn't watery just bland. Lastly I order the crepe sweet potato and shrimp. To describe this as a "crepe" has never had a crepe (made in the French tradition). It's not at all pancake like and more like a hash brown with shrimp. It was good and crispy but not at all what I expect. The restaurant has amazing ambience, kudos to the decor...with a wall length mural of a peacock and hanging paper lanterns...the restaurant looks exotic. Lastly, service was also just ok, not special or fast. Also, I got my entire order all at once, which I hate especially since I like having Pho hot. When one gets everything at once stuff gets cold! The cooks have no sense of timing (seemingly) and are more concerned about getting the order out. Overall, it's a beautiful restaurant full of charm with ok food and care for the customer. If you're not as exacting as I am about Pho and dining out in general...you may like it...the food is certainly filling.
