My husband and I both felt very rushed at our appointments, and it never seemed as though he took our complaints very seriously. To make matters worse, after seeing another doctor, I now know that he misdiagnosed me in a way I think was very negligent, and most likely occurred because he never took the time to truly listen to a full list of my symptoms without jumping in halfway through with the diagnosis he'd already decided on. I'd been suffering from stomach upset, pain, and digestive issues since before I moved here. Dr. Smucker diagnosed me with IBS, and told me to take Citrucel. He never ordered a blood test, or bothered to look at my previous records, or he would have noticed that I had gradually worsening anemia--a symptom of what I actually had, which was a bleeding ulcer. Even worse, when I saw him because I was concerned I was taking too much Excedrin for my headaches, he told me to continue taking the pills as long as they were working for me, even knowing that I had ongoing stomach issues. My ulcer was most likely caused by NSAIDs, and Excedrin contains aspirin (an NSAID), so his medical advice probably made my condition worse. The next doctor I saw (Heather Pfeiffer FNP) immediately ordered a blood test, put me on Prilosec, and diagnosed me with an ulcer with no problem. After a month of treatment from her, my symptoms have almost completely disappeared, whereas under Dr. Smucker I suffered unnecessarily for a year, believing I had a condition like IBS that was never going to go away. I would not, under any circumstances or for any reason, recommend Dr. Smucker's medical care to anyone; it's entirely possible his care may even make your condition worse, as it did for me. There are many good doctors in Portland that will take the time to listen to you and diagnose you properly. Find one of them, because Dr. Smucker is not one.

I…read moreknow they recently changed ownership or practitioner or whatever, and so we had to re-establish care (and pay AGAIN for the intake visit). However, every step of the way has been frustrating, confusing, and poorly run. First, to schedule an appointment was incredibly frustrating because she would not let me book without knowing if my insurance was in network. So I had to hang up and literally spend 45 minutes trying to verify they were in network with my own insurance even when I told her on the website it looked like it was. I also spent a solid 15 minutes on the phone with her going over all my insurance information and she claimed it was in my account now. When I get to the appointment, I AGAIN have to give my insurance information. They made it a point to ask me for it again, and asked me to send them the card to their email etc etc. which makes sense but they said they didnt have the information at all! The appointment itself was uncomfortable because they have a very cheap little blood pressure machine that takes SO long to read that my arm actually went painfully numb. I am a nurse myself and I know a bad machine when I see one. My blood pressure typically runs 95/55 (or close to). This machine pumped my arm up so high on the cuff, into the solid 200's and then slowly trickled down over what felt like an eternity. There is NO way you get an accurate BP with a machine like that, and its not wonder why after minutes of pain, my blood pressure read 120/70, which appears textbook normal but is actually high for me. Then I go to pay for my intake appointment and they can not provide receipts. They got my email and said I would get an emailed receipt, which I promptly never did (still waiting 3 weeks later). I DID however, get a bill in the mail which does not reflect the amount I paid that day, and now I have spent 3 days trying to get ahold of the billing department. I kept giving this clinic a shot. On my second appointment when I walked in, lo and behold, I was asked AGAIN for my insurance information??? Do they seriously not have it? I not only gave it to you on the phone, but also wrote it on my intake paperwork (in TWO different spots btw), emailed you a copy, and here we still are. She couldnt find the email, so I had to email it again. What a mess. After my allergy test, I was told I would be getting information on the cost for treatment in the coming weeks. I have not heard a thing, which is understandable as sometimes insurances take forever. However, I did start receiving incessant texts and emails about a prescription that I received, which the doctor totally failed to mention she would be prescribing. While waiting for one of my appointments, a gentleman arrived to check in for his appointment, and when he did, he was told he needed to pay his balance. He was so confused and said to the lady, "I've been coming here for 4 years, I have never paid a cent. Why do I have a balance now out of nowhere?" So it is not just me that is stuck in a messy situation. They seem to be a mess. This clinic is disorganized and it makes for a very awful experience. The actual medical care is mediocre. I do not recommend.

I highly recommend Dr. Levine! I was having irregular bleeding and even my OBGYN was stumped after all the tests came back normal. Doc Sam flagged my copper IUD as a likely culprit, since irregular bleeding is actually a side effect to that. I am so glad I removed the IUD. I have not had irregular bleeding since. She was totally right.

I see her solely for all my lady needs. Now, on to my gynecologist review...this is a first. Truth be told, I don't even want to write a review about my gyno because it's a personal topic...real personal. That in mind I have been to a handful of gynos in my life all of which I was pretty meh about, others I straight up hated. If someones going to be all up in my biz, they should at least be agreeable people. I thought this was an important review to write because I've been to the gyno mountain top now and ladies, all I have to say is stop gritting your teeth through your annual exam, find someone you like! I promise you - Doctor LeVine will be that person. Sam practices naturopathic medicine but can also prescribe western medicine if needed. Her exam room is very relaxing (I posted a picture), with big comfy chairs, candles, good smells. Nothing like the bare bone exam room you've grown to hate no doubt. Before your exam, you kick back in the plush chair and have a non-rushed conversation about what's going on. The best part? She's listening and asking questions. This is a vast improvement from most people who get in my pants. ba-dum ching. Okay, bad joke, moving right along! There is not a computer, no typing while you talk and minimal eye contact. She listens! Which sounds like a no brainer but I've learned that in the world of medicine - it is not, it's a luxury. Whatever your aliment, awkward disclosure or anything in-between she makes it a safe place to share. Her humor, supportive attitude and down to earth attitude are such refreshing traits. The exam, let's face it, is never going to be a picnic! I will say that it is a much more comfortable environment making the whole thing much easier. She even took the extra time to teach the breast exam. This seems like something everyone should know, but as it turns out I had unknowingly only been doing a half-ass job. A breast exam is nothing to half ass ladies. Full ass that breast exam, always! Now for a few logistics. She takes insurance and is easy to reach by e-mail. For your gyno needs and beyond, look no further than the wonderful Doctor Samantha LeVine!

Having to leave him after getting to this sweet spot was like having to abruptly dump the love of my life. No one would get me like he did, I thought. He knew very intimate things about me, including what I look like naked. The new insurance listed the Portland Clinic as an eligible provider. I made an appointment with Dr. Cooper, half expecting to meet a pre-occupied nitpicker who had more important things to do. Dr. Cooper confirmed my theory before I even met him. The day of my appointment, his assistant called to say he didn't want to see me. Huh? Apparently, he chooses who he wants to see and who he doesn't, and my chart was on the reject list. It was really thoughtful of him to make that determination the very day of my appointment, after I had adjusted my work schedule to be there. Perhaps if I were a rich old white man he might consider gracing me with his royal presence. As it turns out, Dr. Cooper's douche bag maneuver, proved to be the best gift I could ever ask for. I got a same day spot with Dr. Trafficante who is equal to or greater than my old Dr., but taller and with a cooler last name. Dr. Trafficante listened to my concerns and suggested new medication that has made a world of difference for me. He is knowledgeable, professional but laid back, which is something that I really appreciate. Additionally, I have never called his nurse for something without her not answering the phone or responding the same day. I personally have never thanked anybody for being a douche bag, but I guess there is a first time for everything. Thank you, Dr. Cooper, for leading me to one of the best Drs. The Portland Clinic has to offer. In the end, saying the name "Trafficante" instead of pedestrian "Cooper" makes for a lot more fun.
