I had a piece of art that needed to make it from NY to Chicago. I had been advised over the phone by another frame shop to have a custom wooden crate made for shipping. The art has some value but that seemed like overkill. I called San Art Framing and they said they could pack it safely in a inner box enclosed in an outer box with appropriate padding. Conveniently, the framing has plexiglass rather than glass so that issue didn't have to be dealt with. I brought the piece in. San Art packed it and had it ready the next day. UPS delivered it and all is well. San Art Framing knows what they are doing and they got the job done.

Great suggestions but also not at all pushy, always work with you if you have a different thought. If it's a standard size piece and you're not looking to do something custom they also have a great selection of pre-fabrication frames too. For me the cost has always matched the quality and wait time has always met my expectations. Generally they turn things around a little quicker than their estimates if possible. Never bought a piece from them but awesome selection of Stephen Powers and other artists works.

I chose a very simple framing and the price I was given was $174.00 for each (with no discount to have all 5 done)!!!! That is absolutely INSANE! Even if they had that former carpenter Jesus in the back doing the framing that's still disgraceful pricing. I politely declined. I went back on Yelp and found Brooklyn Art over on 5th avenue in Bay Ridge who did it all for $20 each! That's right I got all 5 done for only $100! And take a look at the pic - great work too! For the same 5 at Make a Frame it would've cost me $870 w/o tax - why would I pay $154.00 more for each when I doubt there would be that much of a qualitative difference to the eye between their work and Brooklyn Arts? And even if they are using better grade materials & say they are the best craftsman in the world - can they really justify a $154.00 difference per frame job? I wasn't getting high art framed here - just a cool little personal photograph printed off at CVS no less, lol! What can I say? It was handed down to my husband from his parents, who received it from their church in Mexico before they left for the US. It isn't an expensive piece of art but it holds a tremendous amount of value and significance to us. Rather than treating me and the crucifix as a transaction, Jeff took the time to hear the story of the piece and was extremely genuine, helpful, and patient every step of the way - from choosing a frame, matting, and glass to cover the piece. He was very professional, but more importantly, he was very personable and it felt like working with an old friend! I read a recent review on here that mentioned the shop was "completely locked and closed on 11/24." My appointment to see Jeff was that same day and I had no problems at all. Being that there's a pandemic and it's a relatively small shop, you do have to give Jeff a call when you arrive outside, and there's a sign on the building that clearly says that with his number. Personally, I appreciated this, and that Jeff is doing everything to keep his customers safe. Not sure why that would be upsetting to someone - but I'm all about that level of precaution. And ultimately if you are a professional or even semi-professional artist (or just a hobbyist who wants to treat their paintings with respect and wants a reliable high quality painting surface as all artists should) the quality of Barronarts stuff is an investment, not an expense. Also for what it's worth there are other panel companies in Brooklyn (I won't name names) and Barronarts is actually the least expensive. Jeffrey has done a lot of custom stuff for me that has always looked perfect. I've been a loyal customer for almost a decade now. Anyway, I've made paintings on blick stretchers and had them warp - and then I had to buy higher quality custom stretchers to restretch them before I sold the paintings! I…read morewas using up a supply of Simon Liu panels and didn't start painting on the Barron panels until a month ago. I use acrylic paint, sometimes with thin, washy areas. When paint was applied to the panels, a striated pattern became clearly visible. I don't know if this is a sanding or a priming issue, but either way, since it's past the 30 day guarantee period, Jeffrey won't address it. Will not be doing business here again.
