He howled if I left him at home even if there were other people at home. We took our dog, Benny, a 1.5-year-old rescue Jindo to Sarah's team for Adult Manners classes. We learned so much! We don't have his exact history before he was adopted from the shelter but he was very hesitant around strangers, fearful, and scrappy. We knew he needed extra attention and wanted to use a positive reinforcement approach to gain his trust and confidence. Sarah's team is fantastic. We learned way more than videos on YouTube. Personalized attention is the key! The classes addressed the reasons behind the dog's behavior (like pulling on a leashed walk or ignoring you when you call him) and why we were building positive behaviors in a specific progression. Understanding dog language was a meaningful part of the learning experience. Training is ongoing--We found you get what you put into it outside of class. It really takes consistency and training in everyday life as real distractions and situations arise. I have nothing to say but great things about Patti. She has been my go to for any questions I have with my new puppy. My new puppy has been extremely shy and it's been great being able to do positive training with her. It's what you make out of every class that counts. Sure you can YouTube or google some training but Patti always walks me through with my specific dog and it's worked great. I had a scare when I moved and instead of chasing my dog I yelled touch and she came running back to touch. Having a trainer is like a guide you still have to put in 90% of the work if you want to be successful. It was sad during covid times that we weren't able to meet especially during my dogs critical growth period but classes have resumed and she let my dog go into the puppy class since she's so shy. The Puppy Pre K class is a must do if you have a new puppy! We took our 8 week old puppy to the class right when we got him. At first, he was really shy and overwhelmed, but Patti paid special attention to ease him into socializing. By the second class he had no problem and by the last class he was the one initiating the play with the other puppies! The class is really helpful in learning to understand your new pup and to make sure you start off on the right and positive foot. It's a very safe environment to learn and socialize your pup. I booked Puppy Start Preschool for my 10 week old Golden Retriever. Thursday's at 9:30am. I showed up and was scolded by Pilar who was in disbelief that I purchased the class and reserved a spot. She definitely didn't seem organized even though I made my purchase online days before and booked the same date I showed up for. After questioning me multiple times I showed the receipt. I felt attacked, she was definitely not calm. And then when she found out I didn't have the list of items I needed to bring, Pilar came at me again in a very rude manor and told me to come back next week. I felt like Get Pawsitive could have done more to prepare me considering this is my first puppy. They had finally sent me an email on how to prepare myself after the class took place and offered a private orientation for more money, but I don't feel comfortable working with Pilar. I emailed and called Sarah to see if I could change days to another instructor and she has not responded. I'd like my money back at this point. If you are a working professional who doesn't have the time to train your puppy and are seeking more guidance onboarding this is probably not the place for you, unless you can get ahold of Sarah for private sessions, which seems to be rather difficult. As for the the actual dog training, I can't really comment. Hard to take them seriously when they say positive reinforcement is their go to strategy but isn't actually practiced by their trainer in terms of human communication. read more

We have been receiving Zoom sessions with Patti O'Farrell until the in-person puppy classes can begin. We brought home an 8 week old Labradoodle puppy and felt totally overwhelmed by all the challenges, in spite of reading several books and watching puppy training videos in preparation for getting our puppy. Patti has been so encouraging as well as providing us with a lot of knowledge about how to handle the usual puppy challenges of pottie training, and mouthing/biting. She spends time watching us working with our puppy, using her dogs at her home as models, sending us reading material and videos, giving us many ideas regarding useful toys, and healthy treats for us to consider. She is attentive, a very good listener and is consistent with follow up materials and videos of our sessions. We have gone from feeling overwhelmed, to calm and relaxed and enjoying our puppy because we now have good tools to meet all the challenges of raising a happy and healthy puppy. I have been taking my 7 month old Goldendoodle to Patti at Get Pawsitive since he was just 9 weeks old, and she has been truly wonderful. He is my first puppy ever, and quite the little handful, so I don't know what I would've done without her. I recently adopted a new pup. The first night home we realized that we needed help so we decided to call Get Pawsitive Dog training due to recommendations from the shelter. We only had our pup for 3 days before her first class so we had no idea how she would act around other pups. The first class we went over clicker training and teaching the dog to go to her place using high value treats. I will admit that the first class was beneficial to me in learning how to use the clicker and when to treat but that's all we learned. When it came time to let the dogs out and play, my dog got a little aggressive with another dog and since my pup was the hyper one she got sent back to her crate. We spent the rest of the time feeding my dog treats on her bed while all the other dogs got to play. Every class after that was exactly the same. I signed up to get my dog socialized and to try to understand her behaviors but instead the trainers made me feel like it was my fault for not noticing the signs. I wrote an email to the trainer explaining my concern so he attempted to give us a little more attention during the final class but in the end, we were in the crate throwing turkey on a blanket while all of the other pups got to play and learn how to socialize. It was sad to think that we might have a dog that can't play with other dogs or that we can never go to a dog park because she might bite another dog. I turned to YouTube because I assumed all other dog trainers were exactly the same as Get Pawsitive. We learned more from watching Zak George's YouTube channel. It wasn't until I spoke another trainer that made me realize that it's not my fault and that my dog can be trained. They say it's very important to get you puppy socialized from 8-16 weeks of age and I recommend you look elsewhere for your training. read more

We adopted a 4 or 5 year old lab mix about a month ago. She is the most perfect companion in the world and we are trying to make up for the unimaginable hardships she went through in her prior life. I can't express enough how fortunate we feel that we found Sarah and had her come to our home and work with us on helping with our dog's behavior! We have a deaf French bulldog who has some serious anxiety issues which had worsened with the arrival of a new puppy. We really didn't know if this was ever going to work.
