I been going here maybe three years? The model really works for me! Between the pre-set appointment times and getting used to the other people you see when you're there, going to the gym becomes a welcome, semi-social commitment instead of something you can blow off with no one but your own sense of shame noticing. Was also really impressed how the place was run during the worst of the pre-vaccine pandemic; not a single case of transmission on site. It offered me some structure and somewhere "safe" to go during dark times. Thank you, gym! When I was first googling women's gyms in Camberville after parting ways with the healthyworks a few years ago, I was skeptical of this place because I thought the staff would be trying to tell me to lose weight. That's not something I ever want to hear from anyone, and luckily no staffer has ever said anything to me about it! I know some members ask to be weighed sometimes, but it seems the staff only go there if you do. I started with a complimentary session, and I wasn't completely convinced because the audio track announcing sets and keeping time freaked me out. After a second complimentary session I decided the audio was not a dealbreaker, and I have been a paying member ever since with no end in sight. If you want gym to be part of your life but can't self motivate, but CAN keep your appointments, this might be the place for you. read more

Get in Shape for Women in Cambridge is one of the best places to work. John is a great boss and the clients are amazing. I worked there for 3.5 years and only left to work at a gym full time. I call it the Get In Shape family because it is and was my second home. I have nothing bad to say about this place: read more

My wife was a member of this gym for several years and she had a wonderful experience. She would always come home and tell me about her workout because she was so impressed with how targeted and thoughtful the training plan was. The trainers are experts at what they do and take great care of their clientele. If we still lived in Cambridge, she would still be a member. read more

GET IN SHAPE FOR WOMEN is fantastic, and the Porter Square location is absolutely wonderful. I've been working out here for six years. John and the other trainers are experts, as well as warm people, demanding in a good way, and very responsive to individual needs and requests. The facility is pristine, and the atmosphere is friendly and fun. read more

I've been going to Get in Shape for Women for two years. I love everything about it. I train with John, the owner, who's knowledgeable and welcoming and makes working out fun. There are never more than 4 people in a class and John tailors each person's workout to their fitness level and their individual strengths and needs. He gets to know people and shares his own story in a way that makes it feel like you're with family. I think if I stopped showing up he'd come and get me! read more

I love this gym! I've done circuit training at several gyms and this is my favorite by far! Catering to women of all ages, John and Katie are great about adapting workouts to all levels, limitations and abilities. I don't feel the pressure I did at other gyms about not being able to keep up someone much younger than me (I'm 54), but still feel challenged (in a good way). Aside from the workout, I love the community in Get In Shape. Both John and Katie take the time to get to know the members personally and everyone is super supportive of each other. Whatever your age or fitness level, if you're looking for a great workout at a gym that won't make you feel self-conscious, this is for you! read more

I've now been a member for 18 months, and it's by far the most consistently I've used a membership. The extra attention makes all the difference in my workout, and the small group model makes me feel accountable. The other members are for the most part kind, friendly and funny, and the trainers are just awesome. read more

I have been doing small group training at Get In Shape for Women for at least 7 years and I can honestly say it has been the best Gym experience I have ever had! I love the fact that the Gym goers are all women -- the only man is the fabulous John who is the utmost, well trained professional while being approachable and FUN! Katie is our other coach who joined the team in the last year. She is warm, down to earth and really focussed on the individual needs of each person in the Gym. A great addition! Also the women who come regularly for small group training are interesting, diverse and nice to be around. I highly recommend Get In Shape For Women in Porter Square, Cambridge. read more

Checking in once again since my horrible injury thanks to Porter Squares having hired a "Trainer" who was anything but professional. My injury is still with me despite numerous visits to doctors and physical therapists. Just a reminder about how much the franchise owners at this location "love" their customers.. but sadly not enough to hire qualified trainers. read more

So many things make this gym so great, especially John who I started training with in 2015. I quickly reached some goals and felt very supported along the way. When life got too busy, I took a break and quickly realized how much I missed this place. I am back now and so pleased to be working with John and Katie who make the workouts challenging and fun. Best of all I don't have to think about what to do! The staff care about their clientele and have built an amazing community. I have gone to many gyms on and off for years and this is, hands-down, the best. read more

I recommend GISFW for anyone who needs guidance and an extra push with their workout goals. I have always considered myself a "healthy" individual. I love to be active and eat clean however I was missing some important nutritional and strength conditioning elements in my routines. Katie and John have become my leaders and teachers in a new lifestyle and their support and genuine interest in me as a person has helped me to reach my fitness goals. THANK YOU! You are a member here not a number and all members are important. Katie and John will know your name and ask questions about how you really are- cause they care. this place.... I could write forever on the benefits of GISFW. read more

These women are the REAL deal!! I walked in thinking it would be a touchy feely place for women who don't want to work hard but everyone I met has met amazing goals and is incredibly hard working. The staff is incredibly accommodating, supportive, kind, but also willing to kick your ass which is just what I needed. They tailor to your schedule and I text them on weekends with random questions about food choices and they are always a big help! The customer service is above and beyond and now going to the gym is the highlight of my day. Definitely recommend the program. The initial price is steep but they're willing to work out payment plans. Worth every penny. read more

I love this place! John is a joy to work out with and I've met some great women in the small-group training classes . The pandemic has been difficult both physically and mentally so I was excited to come back. I feel really safe with all the COVID protocols in place at the gym and it's great to be back and working out again. 10/10 would recommend. read more

I love this gym! John and Katie are knowledgeable trainers and they're really nice! They get to know everyone's personal story and are always willing to adapt to individual needs. GISFW Porter Square is the perfect place to motivate and get back in shape! I have been a member for 2 years and have shed over 60 pounds with the help of John, Alyssa, and Kate. As a gym I was very disappointed with the service provided. It's a steep price and you have to set up appointments ahead of time. This may be motivating for some people but more often than not I need to squeeze gym time into my schedule and don't want to have to plan all my sessions in advance. And they are closed Sundays. Lame enough. Here's what made me mad enough to actually write a review. I signed up for a trial membership last year, decided it wasn't for me, and left. Easy as that, no hard feelings just wanted something that fit my schedule and budget better. One year later I start getting charges from the gym again claiming that since they didn't have anything in writing saying I left that the charges are legitimate and they won't refund ($483) these payments. I was under the impression that by speaking with the manager who assured my I was all set when I left and then not being billed for a year that my membership was properly cancelled but now I am out almost $500. It was a waste of money to work out there and an ever bigger waste when I wasn't! read more

The workouts themselves are fine, the trainers are nice, and the appointment system is effective in getting couch potatoes off the couch. The problem I had here is with their manipulative and dishonest pricing. When I joined, I asked if there were ever any discounts or promotions that could bring down the fairly high cost per workout, and I was told in no uncertain terms that there were not. So I paid. Over the next weeks and months, I realized that there are actually a LOT of discounts and promotions available to existing members and their friends, and that I was paying quite a bit more per workout than people who signed up through these avenues. So I felt I had been misled. When I brought the issue up with staff and management, the management was completely uninterested in making things right. Not only did they refuse to refund any portion of what I paid for my subscription (fair enough), but they also refused to refund a separate gift I had received from a friend, which was outside any specific package and which they had previously suggested would be refundable. Then the gym switched from a paper booking system to an online system--a good idea--but even after repeated requests via email, phone, and in person, they did not give me access to make appointments online. So they insisted that I should use the remainder of my credit instead of getting a refund, but then effectively made it impossible for me to do so. The icing on the cake is that they still send me promotional emails, asking for more money. read more

I highly recommend GISFW porter square. I was with them for more than a year and lost around 20 pounds. John/Alyssa are a very good trainer. It's a group training. Their workout is motivating and great. I was in need of special attention as I had bad knees. John was very good in coming up with workout ideas that fit very well for me. This place is very positive and welcoming. Unfortunately, I couldn't continue here because of my health issue. John/Kate - Thank you both. Hopeful I will be able to make it back someday. read more

A friendly gym all around. The trainers are excellent and make everyone feel welcome and confident. I look forward to my workouts!

Ignore any review before Spring 2015. This GISFW is under new management since then and the new owner/manager and trainer are wonderful: knowledgeable, hardworking, committed and caring. They get to know each client very well and adjust their workouts accordingly to each person's needs and goals. I was a client at another very high performing GISFW before moving to this area and this studio is as good or better. Not cheap and you have to make a long term commitment but for me it's perfect and the next best thing to 1:1 personal training. read more

I appreciate the personalized workout that I get. In just a year I have become more toned, muscular and have increased stamina.

I am another one of my generation who put myself last. I have been at GISW for ONE WEEK! I have lost * LEGIT LBS. The atmosphere is very upbeat; the staff is so client focused; I look forward to seeing C/J. BTW: I lost 8 pounds in a week. So: Caitie has a food plan she has put together with her business partner, Brian. Use it; clean eating is something this 66 year old always knew about in her travels. AND: a vodka martini, Tito style, is always in order. Thanks for making this my life changing move an opportunity of a lifetime, GISFOW/ Cambridge. read more

My sister went here and couldn't stop talking about how amazing the place is! Plus she always brags about the muscles she is gaining! I had to try it out. The gym has 2 new lovely owners, Kate & John, who focus on their clients. They're always positive and remember everything you tell them from an injury to who came over for dinner last weekend. I highly recommend coming to this gem. read more

I like to start with the positive. In my monthlong trial membership at Get in Shape for Women, I worked with two trainers, and both seemed knowledgeable, professional, and organized. I particularly enjoyed working with Adam, who was very personable and professional. That's where the positive ends. My main impression of this "gym," if you can call it that, is "Yuck." I experienced very poor customer service from the center's management, who treated me as a second-class citizen, most likely because I had used a Living Social voucher for my trial month. It took two weeks (half my trial) before I was given any sort of orientation to their program, and not because of lack of effort on my part. For a place whose entire philosophy is based on its clients' individual goals, they did a poor job of identifying or responding to mine. I must also mention that I don't think the facility was cleaned/dusted even once in the month I went there; I kept seeing the same dust in the waiting area and the bathroom. Plus, several of the furnishings still had sticker tags from the store where they had been bought! How tacky and shoddy. This place is a workout factory. You step onto the assembly line and come out at the other end. If you follow everything they tell you, sure, you'll lose weight, and sure, you'll get stronger. But I was wholly unimpressed with the way this center was run. It was soulless and devoid, at least in my case, of the kind of customer service that sells memberships. Frankly, it was a little bit nasty--and definitely overpriced. Go to Healthworks instead. You'll get more out of one session with a personal trainer there than you will out of Get in Shape for Women. read more

I cannot recommend this place highly enough. I have been a client for almost 3 years and although it was good before, with changes in management and training staff, it has become great. Trainers are true professionals, flexible and adaptive to clients' needs and the atmosphere is upbeat and fun. I never thought I would say that I really look forward to going to workout, but with this team, it's absolutely true. They are really great and I am deeply appreciative of their support. read more

Since new ownership by Katie just over a year ago, this place has turned into an inspiring, professional, and truly successful Fitness Center. The amazing staff will push you - workouts are challenging yet fun, and they really partner with you to help you reach your goals, making you want to keep coming back. The Center is run with Integrity, transparency, creativity and reliability - not values you often find in fitness centers. I am glad that I stuck with this place through the uneven times because this past year has been workout heaven. In my 60's, I can truly say I'm in the best shape of my life. read more

GISFW at Porter Square made it easy for me to come in and work out, because I knew I was supported and encouraged by two talented, knowledgeable people. Katie and John are great trainers (and I've known a few). They are happy to share what they know, explained the exercises clearly, and answered all my questions. I was very unfit when I came. Six months later, I have a core! and upper body strength! and a record now of pushing through to make it happen! It makes such a different to me to have my strength back. I have recommended the Porter GISFW to my friends because how professional this place is. I first joined with a six-month deal in September 2015 (all pricing details up front and clear!). I wanted to get into the fitness groove again and build my strength and flexibility, particularly since I'm "older." Katie and John asked at each session what I wanted to focus on and varied the workouts every day; they made sure my workout met my needs (knee issues). Also there is something about working out with just two or three other women that's really supportive. I also like how quick and simple it is: a half-hour of strength and a half-hour on the treadmill or elliptical for cardio--done! (BTW those pictures up top are not the owner/trainers today.) read more
