We made a reservation for four people and were very excited to paint some pottery. The young lady who greeted us, told us we would be sitting at table #8 as she pointed to it. She then told us to look on both sides of the long shelves and pick a ceramic piece that we wanted to paint. They had a nice variety of pottery to choose from. We each took our time selecting our pieces. They were pricier than we expected. I paid a little over $100 for two small pieces (a turtle & a sun). My sister paid about $27 for a small leaf dish to put small trinkets on. After we all had our pieces, the young woman came out from behind the counter, showed us were the brushes were, how to pick the colors we want to use, and told us that the colors will ultimately look like the colors on the wall. She then said to make sure we give it four coats of paint, then she let us begin. We had a lot of fun painting and talking amongst our group. We even were able to walk across the street to see the Artemis II blast off before going back in to finish painting. One improvement that we would like to see would be more interaction/assistance between the staff and the customers. We would have liked to be given more guidance as to how to paint some of the more intricate areas of the pottery pieces. I, for one, wasn't sure which brush was the best to use on certain areas which caused some frustration. I do hope to return sometime to see if these areas are addressed. read more

Really such a great place. I went there on a date and they were so kind and accommodating! The lady working there got us a seat even though they were booked and we had no reservation. She didn't have to do that and we really appreciate it. They were so kind the entire time! They gave us extra time to finish our pieces and we never felt rushed. I would 100 percent recommend. The options to paint are really great. I loved my finished product. It's SO hard, but very fun. Definitely brainstorm some ideas before going there so you don't waste table time googling ideas if you're a perfectionist like us. read more

They have quite a nice selection of pieces you can choose from most of them around $25 You can bring drinks and snacks and spend a few hours talking, laughing and painting. If that wasn't enough, Skylar the young girl working was so attentive and helpful. She was doing it all from filling paints to washing off brushes and didn't hesitate to help My child get paint colors or answer his questions when he was too impatient to wait for me to come help him. The price includes the piece, unlimited paints & supplies, and storing it after the piece gets fired for up to a month in case you live out of town. What a fun spot! All you do is pay for the pottery and then get painting! The pottery here is a bit expensive. A small piece was $12 and a large one could be $50. I paid $24 for a medium sized pot. There are many types of pottery to choose from: dishes to sculptures of unicorns! This is a great birthday party event for kids. You can bring your own snacks, birthday cakes, and icecream! I discovered with a shock that a good friend of mine had never painted ceramic before, so within the hour we were at Fire It Up. We called first to ensure there was room (sometimes there are parties). Due to streets being blocked off for an event, and a 3 car accident that blocked another street, we had to call 3-4 times to find alternate routes. The staff was very patient and helpful. They have a huge display window with objects other patrons have painted and have yet to retrieve. It's fun to see the various levels of talent, complexity, and skill. My friend and I picked out an item to paint, and the proprietress was very helpful to my friend. She showed her the process (selecting item, looking at paint samples, wiping dust off the object, how to layer colors and use stencils, etc.) Enormous selection of items to choose from, ranging from about $12 and up. Each table sat four, with an individual rinse glass & palette, communal pot of paintbrushes (plenty), and a very detailed set of instructions. If you had the desire and money, you could create an entire set of creative dishware. There were lots of seasonal themed items as well, not just for the current holiday. There seemed to be about 100 different colors/types of paint, with the finished sample on view. They also had a plethora of stamps and stencils separated by theme and type. I spent about 15 minutes happily browsing for just the right type of sun I needed for my project. We spent about 1 1/2 hours painting. At the end, I hated the way mine looked, so they said I could just wash all the paint off and bring it back in another time. They did not charge for studio time (that may be different if you bring your own object). We returned in a few days to pick up my friend's baked ceramic piece, which looked awesome. At that time I redid my item, and my friend chose a larger item for herself to paint. We enjoyed another low-key, tranquil and enjoyable afternoon. I have been to many of these places and this is one of the best. Not only do they have a huge selection of items and art accessories, but there are multiple hair dryer stations to speed up drying between coats. I love this. There really is nothing more boring than literally waiting for paint to dry, especially when 7-8 coats are needed. It's a beautiful location in downtown Melbourne, with lots of interesting little shops and restaurants within walking distance. Depending on day/time, parking may be a bit of a challenge. It is amusing to see pedestrians walk by, and then jerk to a stop when the colorful window displays catch their eye. Customers are asked to wash paint brushes/sponges, return paint dispensers, rinse swish glasses and clean any stencils used (totally reasonable). The staff takes care of the mess on the table. Items are baked and ready in about 4 days. read more

I am very upset with the store. Took 4 kids to paint, when i went to pick pottery up, they had thrown the kids pieces away. My daughter painted her grandma a tea pot for a Christmas present, so that leaves her heartbroken. We'll never take any kids there or recommend the store to anybody.
