Gerry's Grill has built quite a reputation for itself as being one of the de facto Filipino restaurant to visit if you're craving authentic Filipino grilled dishes and staples such as Crispy Pata (deep fried pig trotters), Kare-kare (stewed oxtail, beef, tripe, and veggies with peanut sauce), and the Sisig (deep fried pork heaven). What makes this specific restaurant location a stand out is where it is situated: alongside the scenic view of the breath-taking Taal Lake/Taal Volcano (if you haven't seen this place you are missing out). I'm certain the scenery and the cool mountain air aides in making whatever you eat doubly delicious. Our entourage of 30-people flooded the place a little past the lunch hour so seating was not an issue as we had a pretty good courtside view of the lake. Our local hostess took command of the menu and ordered for the group and knew exactly what we wanted: sisig, kare-kare, crispy pata, barbecue, lumpia, pinakbet, bulalo soup, grilled (inihaw) squid and tons of steamed rice and garlic fried rice (yes folks, Filipino's love their rice--mounds of it!). The food came out surprisingly quick and slowly began to crowd our long table, but being as hungry as we all were from a day of sightseeing, the dishes started vanishing just as quickly. To say the least, everything was prepared superbly, every morsel was crispy, tenderly meaty and so full of flavour! The restaurant staff was very attentive to our needs--almost psychic as they were able to anticipate small requests even before they were made (I mean, how did the guy know I'd need a glass of ice cold diet Coke to wash down the deep-fried goodness?). Gerry's Grill has a few locations stateside, in California mostly, but I can almost certainly say the experience here was unique to this location. read more
