This time, I made a trip to Simma's to pick up a few items of my own for a party this weekend. I originally planned to get a small cheesecake but decided instead on four different dessert squares. With the help of the friendly staff (thanks, Jeremy), I put together a great assortment that is sure to please. In addition to the bakery items, they also carry party supplies such as cards, decorations, and napkins, along with packaged chocolate confections. Anyone who loves high-quality bakery items should make the trip. Is it a little more expensive than other places? Sure. Is it worth it? Absolutely!

When I'm playing neighborhood traveler I like to see what's around and I saw a Mexican bakery and…read moresince I failed at forcing a sweet tooth on my self, not much reviews for sweet places in the last 6 months so that's a fail. The Mexican bakery is a completely different animal when it comes to bakery's and I'm completely lost so I aske the nice guy helping me to help me pick a couple items to try, the couple items rang up at $1.20 LOL LOL so it's very value friendly. The place is very old looking on the inside and it had a family feel to it with family photos on the walls. The place has a stand up cooler with a cake, eggs, basic staples etc on the left and cases on the right with dry baked goods. I saw cookies, cupcakes, breads, rolls among all the other items that I didn't know what they were like rolls with frosting etc. I grabbed a strawberry filled pastry thing covered In granulated sugar and a moist looking slab of something that looked like pie filling. I really like exploring these neighborhood gems and trying new things that I have never had before so this place was perfect and I can't believe that Nana H. has the only review, good job Nana H. because I had no idea that this place was review starved for 13 years in business.

My family and I discovered Chocolate Falls last year when they were in their old location around…read morethe corner because they had signage outside for Cedar Crest ice cream. We stopped in a couple times afterwards for ice cream before they moved, but this was my first visit at their new, larger location on Appleton Ave. I can't speak to their homemade treats because I've only gotten ice cream while there, but it looks like they have a good selection. If I remember correctly from looking around at their old location, they may have gluten free/gluten friendly items. Cedar Crest is my favorite brand of ice cream, so big props for carrying it. What I love the most, though, is Chocolate Falls is the only place I know that you can get a flavor from Cedar Crest called Deep Space, which is Blue Moon mixed with dark chocolate and swirls of frosting. Blue Moon is my favorite ice cream flavor and mixing it with dark chocolate takes it to another level. Both last year and this year Chocolate Falls stocked Deep Space and I hope they continue to do so.
