How can you not visit this quaint store? I stopped by to pick up some wine to pair with my friend's delicious vegan corn chowder. I'm not a wine expert, and you don't have to be when you have an in-house sommelier. I knew I had to get a white wine, but he was able to help me make the best white wine selection - he was able to explain the level of acidity needed to complement a spicy chowder. Cute little wine shop! Given the name, I was surprised to find a well stocked liquor section as well as a great selection of wines from around the world. My boyfriend and I got a few Spanish reds to try--I can't recall which ones right now, but I'll include them in the update. The wine with the purple label (I really wish I remembered the name...fail) was amazing; my boyfriend said it was the closest to Spanish house he'd had since living in Valencia. Service was great, too--the wine guy pointed us in just the right direction! Here's a little secret---when you buy 6 bottles of wine, they give you a 10% discount. Totally worth it if you're a wino, or want to become one! read more

Excellent wine and liquor store. It's small, but well-stocked. It doesn't have every label in town, but it has a great selection of standards and interesting small labels that are worth trying. If they don't have a wine you want, just tell them, and they will special order it for you. They also have hard liquor, and some cheeses. They often have wine tastings, and sometimes do cheese tastings as well! Sometimes I know exactly what I want, but sometimes I come in and just tell them what kind of wine I would like, and they are more than happy to help me pick out something new to try. If you buy a case, you get a discount, and they'll help you carry it to the car. read more

The owner was very helpful. For a small place his selection of wine (europeans included) is quite impressive. Following his suggestion, we had one amazing white from Bourgogne. It was so good!!! Is it a store that has wine? Yes. Can you get something you need in a pinch? Absolutely. Customer service is lacking. I was sent here to buy a bottle of wine for my boss. I walked in and played the message of the bottle(s) of wine I was looking for. A tall gentleman asked if this was for my boss and (rather incredulously) asked if I had his card. I replied yes. And then in the most condescending, rude manner said "well I'll need his signature then". I'm not sure if he really didn't want a sale or what but I was appalled at the tone he took with me. I responded that I also had my own card to pay for if it was that big of a deal. I was planning on buying $300 worth of wine but was so taken aback by his tone that I got one bottle of rosé and left as quick as I could. The older gentleman working behind the desk was very kind and attentive but the other gentleman was enough to make me never go back. I'll hike down to Potomac Wine and Spirits or Whole Foods to avoid this place. read more

I had some good days here, but its definitely not the best liquor store in the area. It's just your average corner liquor store. And if you live on campus, prepare for the 10+ min hike back to the hilltop. It feels so much farther carrying anything more than a 6-pack. Avoid the exorcist steps for obvious reasons, but there's really no easy route. read more

Best liquor store in D.C. hands down. It is very well stocked, reasonably priced and has new liquor, wine and beer every week. Marshall is easily one of the most knowledgeable people in the industry. He knows in detail everything about each wine, liquor or beer in the store. He taste many of the new items and nothing is in the store unless it is thoroughly vetted. On a personal note, he takes great care of my wife and I, and our friends. He has taken the time to get to know not only us, but the rest of the local customers and remembers- and is very helpful to- those who only come in once or twice. Perfect shop for wine, beer, or liquor in the heart of Georgetown. They carry Abita beer (which is sometimes hard to find here) as well as specialty craft brews. Don't be fooled by it's quaint appearance, it's a fraud. Owners know zero about wine. Can barely find red versus white in their own store. Customer service is iffy. Come in on the wrong day and you could encounter indifference at best or surly patronizing condescension at worst. Wine selection skews way too high end for a neighborhood corner store. Seems as if owners just want to milk residents, pegging pricing to zip code not customer base. Shame, 15 years ago then owners created a welcoming atmosphere and inventory that that featured value. Last 2 owners have badly misread neighborhood and customer base. Don't expect knowledge or customer friendly staff. One exception is stoc/delivery guy TJ, very personal friendly guy always with a laugh and smile. Otherwise steer clear and try Safeway for selection, value, and good specials. Very sad decline for a once excellent neighborhood institution. read more
